The reason for the responsive and sound difference is the Worx being a brushless has a soft start feature so saw doesn't buck up.

The worx probably has a "soft start" feature to reduce power consumption and startup torque reaction.

You describe me perfectly at 21:48, and since I have several other Worx tools that use the same 20V battery, I just purchased their latest iteration of the saw you tested. They’ve recently re-branded all of their brushless tools as “Nitro“, and I’ve been pleased with the value they represent, going back over 10 years ago when I purchased their first string trimmer. Yes, they are consumer grade, but that’s exactly what I need. Great video. Scott

Thanks for your time and effort to demonstrate these two battery powered chainsaws. It’s clear that you favoured the Stihl from the get go until you found the torque of the Worxv just kept it cutting under greater pressure. I was concerned at first that your bias would spoil the comparison. In the end it just emphasised the differences between these two saws. We’ll done.

DeWalt 60 Volt Max Chainsaw; it is the top rated battery chainsaw for the money. Researched and looked at them all before I bought the DeWalt. Milwaukee and Husqvarna electrics were also very high rated saws, but cost more than the DeWalt. Another reason I bought the DeWalt, I can use the 60 Volt Max batteries in all my 20 volt DeWalt tools. It somehow knows to power down to 20v for the 20v tools, but will last 3 times as long. Very versatile and useful platform. Another plus, the DeWalt has a 16 inch bar. I have cut down and bucked some 12 inch hardwoods with it. Very impressive saw!

I bought the Stihl when you built the wood fence, great saw! If you let the saw do the work the Stihl is great, it will bog if you push it hard. It did take a little time to learn it's capabilities but I'm extremely happy with it!

I think there may be a difference in the chains themselves. The chain on the Stihl may be a finer cut and nit as aggressive in the pitch as the worx. The chains need to be matched to make the test somewhat more fair. Just saying. 👮🏻‍♂️👍Chip

The Worx uses batteries that can be used in smaller tools. It's part of a family they call 40V Power Share. Each of these tools uses two 20V batteries that also can be used by the tool in the 20V Power Share series. These tools range from drills and impact drivers to lawn movers, a shop vacuum and a couple of different chainsaws. Note that Worx also have a series called 40V Share Volt and these are not compatible with the Power Share tools. Something to be aware of... So if you already have some Worx tools it may be a good idea to also get their chainsaw. Same with the Stihl. Already got some other device using the same batteries then getting the Stihl is probably a good idea. Finally if you have no previous tools then either just look at the saws and get the one that fit your usage profile the best or the one with the compatible tools you are planing to get anyway. Locking yourself into a product line means you will have to compromise. No one manufacturer has the best tool for everything, so look for a manufacturer that has the best tools for your particular use, and compromise on the less used tools.

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer For the money, I'd still take the Stihl. Multiply that lag in the time they go through those logs. At the end of a day, the Stihl's going to save a ton of time and cause the worker less fatigue making it the safer tool too. Yeah...it's worth it in my book. The Worx goes nice when pressured, but really, who pushes on a chainsaw while working? The saw's supposed to do the work.

I have not a lot of experience with battery chainsaws, but I just got a 16-inch bar 8,0 Ah 40V max Nitro Worx chainsaw and when I tried it for the first time, I was amazed and speechless at how fast it went through a 6-inch cherry tree log. No more than 5 seconds and totally effortless, like a steel knife through soft butter. I needed about 200 seconds to achieve the same with a small bowsaw. Obviously the chain was very sharp, brand new, and well oiled too. It is noisy but a much less offensive noise than a gas chainsaw. At source noise must be about 90 dbAs meaning that holding it at armslength, we get about 85 dbAs into our unprotected ears, compared to about 105 and 100 dbAs with a typical gas chainsaw.

I don't have a chainsaw but I do have their Leaf Blower/Vacuum and it's going strong for over 10 years now with regular use! They make their products really good for the value you are paying! I'll buy the Worx in the future for sure based on price point and overall demo here.

It seems like they will both do the job. If the battery life is about the same I believe the worx would win because of torque. You buy a chainsaw to cut wood and the worx just cuts better plus you can buy two of them for one stihl. Something you did not cover was how long does it take to charge the respective batteries and of course you have to charge two worx to one stihl.

For me it seems the Stihl sound runs at a higher speed than the worx. To me that may translate into faster chain revolutions but the worx is slower but has more power. Not having a lot of money I probably would go with the Worx. It may or may not last as long but these are not made to cut a bunch of cords of wood. They are considered trim saws not logging saws.

I'd say the Works has the upper hand, it's economical, has the torque to rip. But it does have a longer bar. The Stihl is better at trimming the branches, and even smaller trees with that burst speed. I grew up running Homelite, and McCullough... And there was nothing light about them Homelites! Never really looked at the Electric chainsaw line up, till now. Neat vid. Tnx.

Worx would be my choice, $ wise and get the job done. Working with a chain saw with wood on the ground, I think the heaver worx is better. If ya gotta climb the tree for trimming, the lightweight Stihl is the choice. If ya can only afford one, Worx, hands down.

Dusty, bars are surprising inexpensive (the smaller ones). Most are made and replaced with Oregon Brand.

From the looks seems like the worx you can drop in Dewalt batteries as replacements

I vote for the worx on price and apparent performance.you do need to do this again in 9-12 months after putting 3-4 hours on the worx.the homeowner doesn't need a $400 saw to use for1 hour a year

Well price wise I'd go whith the worxs it may have more aggressive cut due to the chain it self .but it didn't stop thru the log .that's a plus .so they both have there ups and downs but the only thing whith the worxs saw is it takes 2batteries not 1like the stile saw but anyways great vid and godbless bud

One caveat I’ve found in these kinds of companies is continuity of the product line. I would guess that repair parts will be available from Stihl for a long time whereas the next release in the Worx cordless chainsaws will likely be built from incompatible parts (other than perhaps the battery). Also, what percentage is plastic vs metal. Anyway, thanks for letting us share in the fun. Looked like you were having a blast.

Try a Milwaukee chainsaw those are really powerful. I'd be curious to see how it holds up vs these saws.

The difference in the spool up response is that the worx saw is brushless the brushes provide excitation to the field for a more rapid start so without brushes it is slower

I have a pair of MS170's and they are bombproof. I also have an old all-steel saw from the 30's that belonged to my grandpappy with an 18" bar, but I hardly use it because it weighs about 50 lbs LOL.

These are great for campers no gas oil to pack and no starting problems. Both will cut more than a campfire supply on one charge.

Hi Josh! Great video! Pretty impressed with the Worx. Awful unimpressed with the power of the Stihl, but battery was really good. I’m a husky fan, now you have me looking into battery operated Husqvarna chainsaw 😂. Best wishes!

Im wondering if the Stihl is more responsive because of higher rpm? The Worx seems to have lower rpm, but better for larger diameter, where as the Stihl is better for delimbing. I guess it would come down to preference or what type of work you would be doing.
