Which Hand Held Release is Right for You?

In this Video I go over the different styles of handheld releases that are most popular for target and in the field. There are many different brands on the market, and most will make a release similar to the ones viewed in this video.

    I remember getting started with hunting years ago one year buying a shotgun , the next year getting a bow , then a .22, then a 30.06 amd of course an AR. Getting set up is pricey. Especially when you want a good setup . You need a 4 wheel drive truck , safe , smoker , etc. . Sky is the limit but in my experiences getting set up and practicing is half the fun . It’s not fun sitting still in a tree amd the real work starts when a deer is down 😂. Now that ammo is so scarce or expensive I bought a new bow to get my shooting fix and am loving it .

    Stan also makes a fantastic release called the Perfex Resistance. My daughter had been battling severe target panic for about 6 months. We tried everything. Different releases, coaching techniques, drills, mental management but none of it worked. Then one day she tried the Perfex Resistance and her target panic was gone in about 2 days. Within a week she was shooting higher scores than before she developed the target panic. When set to the correct tension for the shooter it is virtually impossible to punch or force/manipulate the shot because there are no moving parts that would allow the shooter to punch it. The main thing that sets this release apart from the rest is that it works off of tension but it is NOT a hinge. A hinge can be manipulated to force the short or can go off unexpectedly or not go off at all, if there is to much or to little pressure in the hand. PLEASE do a review on this release. More people should know about it because it will absolutely save a lot of kids and adults from developing target panic and could cure many more. #Stan #Perfex Resistance YOUR VIDEOS ARE SOME OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN. Truly awesome job. Very comprehensive and well thought out.

    Any thoughts on back tension releases, like carter's evolution or Dudley's silverback? I've been shooting index for years but I'm making the switch to either a hinge or back tension. I'm leaning in the direction of a Scott longhorn hinge but I've tried and like the evolution. Any reason you'd go with the Carter over the Scott? Thanks for the video!

    I’ve always shot index style and have been considering jumping over to thumb button. During my fall seasons the weather is always warm. However, during my spring seasons I’ll be wearing gloves. How do gloves affect the handhelds? Im meaning thick winter gloves not just mechanics gloves. With an index I just move the glove out of the way and pull my jacket over the wrist strap to keep warm

    I was given a hand held trigger release that is unique. To fire your arrow you have to push the thumb trigger in and then slowly release your thumb off of the trigger to release and fire your arrow. My friend bought it to try it out, but he didn’t like it. I had a tendency to punch the trigger on a conventional trigger release which this reverse release eliminates. Now I have a new problem that I hope someone can help me with. This reverse release has no brand name on it and I need a couple parts for it and I’ve long since lost contact with the friend that gave it to me. Does anyone know what company makes this reverse trigger release. Sincerely Tony Shanahan

    Excellent overview of hand held releases! Comprehensive and very efficient - you must do a lot of editing of your narrative before filming. After watching I went to my local bow shop (Lancaster Archery) and got the Stan Perfex (thumb). All I can say is wow I didn't know what I was missing out on. I winded up getting the XL version and the same color as the one in your video. Do you think the color will be a problem in the woods? Asking because I see they also make an all black version for hunting. I also liked the Stan Perfex back release (for target panic abatement) but hey I gotta leave some items for xmas.

    hi. A question. How do i aim with a scope and dot on for target archery ? Do i always focus on the target, no matter where the dot stands. And comes the dot automatically in the yellow. Or must i always focus on the dot, and try then to put it on the yellow.

  • @Kremit_the_Forg

    @Kremit_the_Forg

    The last option is the right one. It's like the sights on a gun, rearsight & target out of focus, front sight sharp. Think of it this way: It is much better to put a fine sharp dot (your scope/pin) anywhere you want to hit on the target even if said target is slightly blurry.

    I love this video and you do a great job. I'm not trying to be a mean but truball makes a wrist strap for there hand held releases that you can slide into where the little ovals truball stickers are. I have a sweet spot pro with that strap. If you have ever shot a recurve, the drawing effect feels very similar. I was apprehensive too, but after about 2 dozen shots with mine, it is amazing. Thought I wanted 4 finger, but 3 is actually a better feel, for me.
