Upon watching the video a second time, I think one of the most important parts is the list of “Anti-angiogenesis foods, herbs, and spices” since it is an actionable step that can easily be taken. I wonder what an updated list would also look like.

  • @NutritionFactsOrg

Hi, @zachcain2639! That's a good question. Unfortunately, as Dr. Greger likes to say, "We don't know, until we put it to the test." I could not find any research on anti-angiogenic foods and skeletal muscle growth. That said, I would not expect these foods to inhibit muscle growth for two reasons. First, it is exercise itself that promotes angiogenesis in muscles to support their growth. Second, there is plenty of research showing that plant-based diets can support a wide variety of athletic pursuits, and may even provide advantages. More on that here: nutritionfacts.org/video/vegetarian-muscle-power-strength-and-endurance/ By contrast, there is also research showing that high-fat diets, such as popular ketogenic diets, can undermine the benefits of exercise. More on that here: nutritionfacts.org/video/keto-diets-muscle-growth-and-bone-density/ I hope that helps! -Christine Kestner, MS, CNS, LDN, MPH, NutritionFacts.org Health Support Volunteer

I'm wondering if in insulin resistance the cells are preventing methionine in, Not glucose. Perhaps the body doesn't want to be obese and self regulation is able when the blood has less methionine. I recently switched from a keto/Aitkin type diet, To vegan/ low carb Also while researching I was reading about Anti angiogensis for cancer fighting Rats that are designed to get obesity, Lose weight at the same rate as rats on methionine restriction. Perhaps something or just a rabbit trail

Goitrogenic effects were also noted in infants fed non-iodine-fortified, soy-based formula, a problem that was easily solved with iodine fortification. I gained weight on a vegan diet. I’ve been vegan for 7 years and I’m 62. I’m a woman. I think that ageing causing slower metabolism and eating a high starch diet caught up with me. Also, olive oil is another culprit. A few months ago, I started my raw food, high-fruit journey. I eat mainly fruit and smoothies during the week, intermittent fast from 8pm until 8 am. On the weekends I have big salads (no oil). I’ve lost 18 pounds in 3 months. After I get down to my goal weight of 120 pounds, I will consider having a cooked dish on the weekend. All I can say is that during the course of the 20 years you mention, your metabolism has definitely slowed down. And eating lots of beans, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc. puts weight on everybody eventually.

I’d say you may be eating too low calories too. Your body has probs gone into famine mode and yeah build muscle like everyone else says. Also it would be a reasonable expectation to say you should take time to loose weight slowly (as that’s how you put it on) Cut oil also. You cant expect to undo a life time worth of weight gain in 6mths. Make a goal to make life long changes. Hope that helps and good luck. Even without the weight loss eating this way will clear your arteries and that reduces heart attack risk.

It takes on average 12 grams of k1 to create 1 gram of k2. K2 deficiencies are the #1 cause of preventable blindness. Veganism is bad for the environment because it relies on chemical fertilizers and monocrops. Without animal input (manure) you must use chemical fertilization which destroys the earth. The vegan agenda is a half baked idea born out of the emotional perspectives of childless liberal women and is a completely illogical , antihuman, movement with terrible repercussions. If they could press a button and make everyone vegan they would, and we would all starve and go blind. Look at vegan children and tell me they dont look starved. Its child abuse. Compare vegan children to non vegan children and tell me who looks healthier. They might be over weight but it's better than being skinny, pot belly, dark eye cycles. All based off of the demonization of animal foods which started and is continued by studies bought by lobbyists from processed food corporations in order to switch human beings from their natural diets (animal based) to one that is more profitable for the Corp. (plant based).
