The 3v just sounds like an old school big block muscle car and that’s one of the main reasons I bought mine.

I personally like the deeper base tone of the 3v better than the 5.0. However, that power of the 5.0 is something I just can't deny.

It's some new 5 0s with set ups that give them that deep sound

3v sounds like an old school muscle car.

The 3 valve keeps the old school sound, the 5.0 sound is totally different, I say 3 valve sounds best

Funny how everyone says 3v sounds so great now...back when they came out everyone was dogging them because they didnt sound near as good as the previous 2v and 4v (which they still dont). Its kind of like next best thing in reverse order the last one was always better lol

3v sounds older, more like the good ol pushrod v8´s which is good bc it fits the bodystyle of the s197

3v sounds better.. because it has the same firing order as the 351w.. which was very pleasing to the ear. 5.0 is obviously louder and raspy.. still sounds better than Any Camaro I have ever heard tbh.

Na my 6th gen sounds way better then any 5.0 at idle and acceleration hands down we just compared my buddy's 2014 5.0 and its quite compared to mine

I'm pretty sure the 5.0 has the same firing order as the 4.6. The yote is in essence a bored and stroked 3v with 4v heads, yote is based off it

You guys in the US are so lucky to have had these cars so long. I’m in the UK got myself a 2016 Mustang GT about 5 months ago and I love the car so much. I just can’t get over the sound of the V8 and the stunning design. I know Mustangs are fairly common in the US but they look like super cars over here! To me the only cars that compete with it for sound is the 6.2 C63 AMG and the Audi R8 V10.

Truckin On Yeah I like the older mustangs too. The Boss 429 is my all time favourite car but that’s a bit out of reach haha... I don’t know much about the pre 2015 mustangs as the S550 is the first generation Mustang to be sold here officially with right hand drive. Good luck though and hope you find the ‘one’ like I did!

Chelski Jon Kaase Racing Engines makes very faithful crate engines of the Boss 429, and with small improvements on the original design as well. You can get them from the original 429 or bored and stroked as large as 600 cid and make up to 1000 bhp naturally aspirated. Granted the engines still are not cheap but you won’t find a better one anywhere, and it’s still much cheaper than buying an original boss 9. Glad you’re so happy with your own mustang as well, friend👍

I have a 5.0 but the 3v was my first mustang and I will always love it over any style.

3:40 TO 3:49 sold me on the 3v, sound wise.

3v with Flowmaster Outlaw’s sound incredible.

I might just get me a 3v GT instead of a 5.0 and just supercharge it later, wow. That sounds beautiful, seriously.

3V sounded better at idle because of the cams. The 5.0 sounds better everywhere else though.

@@plazmamasta193 my exhaust set-up on my 3v is bbk longtubes headers bbk O/R H-pipe and corsa Xtremes mufflers it sounds really deep but it still has corsa exhaust sound

I have a 3 valve and love it .. but I appreciate the power of the 5.0 and I'm a Chevy guy... just goes to show a car guy is a car guy no matter the brand just have fun with it ... American muscle bay b🤘✊

The 3 valve is deeper,throatier,raspier.The coyote just doesn't have that deep muscle grunt like the 3 valve has,even though it has the horsepower. If you combined the exhaust note of a 3 valve with the power of the coyote and you have the perfect sounding Mustang!

I've had guys driving the 5.0 mustangs tell me they wish their car sounded like mine , I prefer the 3v to be honest I love the way mine sounds over the 5.0

Jeremy Beaver I do prefer the 3V tone though, every time I hear one pass me by I can hear it a mile away and it sounds so pissed off every time. I love it.

It’s pretty close, the 3v has a deeper tone and the coyote is a higher tone but a little bit louder

Always LOVED the old school sound of the 4.6 but the Coyotes power is just hard to beat

The body style and sound of the 3v S197 is the best (2005-2009 best ever Post-classic body style). My brother worked at Ford NVH in Dearborn on getting the exhaust sound just right. My wife doesn’t understand about exhaust sounds but she loves riding in my 2006 GT convertible!

If you don’t think the 3V engine is the best sounding mustang through all generations then please go get your ears checked! Nothing sounds better! 2V comes in second place and gen 1 coyote comes 3rd

Bull GT the terminator and gt500 are not N/A. They both come supercharged so thats out of the question for “best sounding engine” gen 1 coyote sound great but gen 2 and gen 3 are the raspiest engines of all time

I agree with you Johnathan...at idle the 3V sounds better, but at WOT, regular driving, and downshifting i have to give it to the coyote. The 3V is definitely no slouch. Really good video.

I agree with the Texan. The 3V has a great sound for sure. Amazing how it’s smaller and less valves but imho deeper. I have a red 06 GT and a DIB 13 GT. Love them both. The 3V idle is beastly. You done a great and fair comparison. Great great job!!!

I was deciding between a clean low mileage 2010 mustang GT and a 2015 mustang GT. Initial power doesn’t matter because I will do a cam, headers, exhaust, etc upgrades. But this convinced me to go 3V

The modular motors always sounded the best, especially the 2v and 3v variety. Torque monsters too, especially when built up

I personally have a 2010 and love it. I just bought it a month ago. I can afford any mustang . I personally love the sound of the 3V. I'm not going to be racing like all the other car enthusiasts. Just when I step on it she roars and gets sideways.

3V for me all the way around. But I also have a 08 Cammed and modded 5 speed GT. Lov it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

From an outside POV, I think the 3 valve sounds better. From an interior POV, I like the Coyote sound better.

I think the 3V sounds better, but then again I'm biased. I have a 2009 GT with Cervini's side pipes. It's the only vehicle I've ever owned that has gotten compliments for how it sounds.

The 3v has the traditional Ford sound. A lot like the pushrod 302's all the way back to the FE's. The Coyote is unlike any motor Ford has ever built.

3 valves always sound better bro. Too bad they just don't make affordable power. I've heard some really good sounding 5.0s though.

3v for me. I would love some one to take the 3v and do the stroker kit, and balance it so it could do 8,500+ rpms. Like the nascar 427. Then the 3v would scream even more.

3V sounded the best for me for the modular engines. My favorite is a Windsor small block exhaust, I know it's a dinosaur but still classic sound.

I agree. The windsor sounds amazing. I had a 67 GT fastback that originally had a 390. By the time i acquired it, the 390 was swapped for a 351W. Great sounding motor, lousy automatic trans. I woulda rather had a Cleveland tho!

The short answer is that they both sound great. The 3V has the old school American V8 muscle car sound, whereas the Coyote 5.0 sounds more like a modern European muscle car. As a 3V owner, I'm naturally biased towards the 3V but everyone will have their own personal preference.

289 Shelby Daytona is the best sound ever. I wonder if you do the 2 into 1 exhaust like the Daytona on a 2V or 3V you could get a similar sound?? That would be awesome!!

5.0 power 3 valve sounds= perfection

I say 3V wins ! A cammed 3V is just pure V8 muscle notes!! I love the 11-14 5.0 if it's resonator, Cats, and mufflers deletes, all complete straight piped! Only 5.0 sounds I hate is 2015+ they sound robotic to me, like a computer making the sounds instead of an actual motor.

Def prefer the 3v just cuz of the more base in the tone, doesn’t mean the 5.0 doesn’t sound good, I just think it sounds higher pitched and less muscley

Ya 3v without a doubt the 4.6 sounds incredible. 5.0 sounds good great motor but it's a bit too high pitched for me.

3V sounds great

I do enjoy a good Cam idle, but I like the pitch of the 5.0 better. Now it's only my preference but for exhaust note I prefer more of an "Oh" sound versus a "phap phap phap crackle pop" sound. My stock exhaust sounds similar during acceleration to the 5.0 for some reason even though it's just a 3.5 TT EcoBoost. Not necessarily similar to your exhaust note. I may attempt an exhaust upgrade in the future possibly including a catalytic delete on the down pipes. Another great video Jonathon! Thanks for sharing and as always "Best wishes and Peace Out!"

Oddly enough, Ford Trucks share the EcoBoost V6 with the Ford GT so don't dismiss it too quickly. Still has good horsepower and torque numbers. I like your comment. 👍

As much as I like your coyote swap, I sure do miss the cam’d 3V.

I own a 2011 5.0 GT, & think a 3V sounds better, it's more like the old 80's/90's Fox body Mustangs. I had a 1989 Mustang McClaren 5.0 in the early 90's, & even though it was less than 250 h.p(a lot at that time) I wish my Coyote sounded like my old one with SuperTrap's! 💯👍

3v sounds good but having a 5.0 with pretty similar set up for the 2023 I'm sticking with the 5.0. 🎉

3v cam idle, but the coyote sounds good all RPMs

3v=classic sound. Coyote=sports car sound. Makes me think of a built m3 or v8 s4 with that insane induction tone.

3v definitely sounds more old school but the coyote has a snarling meanness to it, it’s a tie in my book

3v surprised me. Gotta give it to coyote though, especially the 18's and up. 5.0 sounds meaner and more powerful. 32 valves and those massive heads make all the difference.

I love the sound of the 3V, I bought one over a 5.0 because of it (and cheaper) both sound great but 5.0 a little to raspy my opinion

I think I like the 3v better, the 5.0 sounds good, but almost sounds too smooth, I like the throaty sound the 3v makes, it just sounds more unique, the coyote just kinda sounds like every other v8 on the market right now
