These are some great videos. Really love your insight. Can you do Applicant reviews like the ones they used to do on KZread from Poets&Quants? Thank you!

Thanks Harsh! I can't promise that we have the capacity to do live profile reviews, but we have published a lot of information on our website under the "How to get into a Top MBA Program" category that would help you to estimate your own chances of success, and know what to do to improve it.

Does postgraduate studies also play a part? I.e reputation of the school where you studied for post graduate, the GPA achieved etc

Yes, postgraduate studies are also a factor in MBA admissions.

My postives are the following: 1. GRE Score is solid. 2. GPA is a 3.5 3. I have tons of community involvement. 4. I have 8 years of professional experience. Cons: 1. I did not go to an Ivy league school or a top 50 school for undergraduate. 2. I do not work for a feeder employer to the top schools. 3. I am not famous or military in any way. Im curious to know if Business Schools are looking at minority status as a factor since the Supreme Court has ruled that to be unconstitutional. This would have been a pro for me because I am a minority. Are business schools looking at something else to increase diversity? As always. Great content.

In short, yes. The details are too technical to discuss in a short KZread comment, but MBA programs still seek to recruit a diverse class and most programs provide essays in which you can write about your background and how it has influenced your development, and they use those essays as part of recruiting a diverse class.

Hello Menlo, I wanted to ask, does having a relative (my grandfather) who graduated from HBS MBA counts as an X factor? Thanks

Being a legacy applicant is a small positive factor, though winning admission to HBS would still depend on having many good qualities yourself academically, professionally, or in extracurriculars.

3:06 I haven't done my Undergrad at a Top 5 level school but after my undergrad I am planning on doing a master's level course from a top 5 school in my nation (I am not from the States but from India 😊 ) Is this considered as good as doing your undergrad level studies from a top tier college?

  • @MenloCoaching

It is not the same thing, but yes, attending a great Master's program can be a positive factor.

@@MenloCoaching Ok Thanks for your response but will a good GMAT score + work exp allow me to get into an M7 league B-School if I do my master's from a top tier college(Given that I didn't complete my Undergrad studies from a good institute) ? Or should I probably think of getting another undergrad degree in a related field from a top college in my nation?

@@Abetterme-dx9ulUnfortunately, it is not possible to assess your chances accurately from these details alone. What I can say is that doing a second undergraduate degree is not an action you should take in order to improve your MBA chances. It is better now to focus on your work experience, test scores and extracurricular profile.

How do schools factor in grad school GPA? I had a 3.1 undergrad GPA from a respectable but not amazing public school. I am now currently finishing up a master of science in engineering from a highly respected engineering school and am on track to graduate with a 3.9. Will schools probably just average the two GPAs or will one or the other take precedence? Feedback I have gotten from peers is that schools are moving away from undergrad GPA as a primary factor and will likely care much more about my grad school GPA. Thoughts?

Your grad school GPA will be valuable as a sign that you can handle the MBA coursework. However, it is only the undergraduate GPA that feeds into the U.S. News MBA ranking formula, which means that MBA programs will care about the undergraduate GPA too. The best thing you can do to in this regard is to get an excellent GMAT or GRE score, since the GMAT or GRE is also a ranking factor (and, fortunately for you, just over twice as heavily weighted as the GPA in the U.S. News ranking).

Hi Deepak! You have many interesting experiences, but it is not possible to meaningfully estimate your chances of admission based on the tiny amount of information that fits into these KZread messages.
