you should make an updated 2018 version (since a lot of great models have been discontinued since 2011 or even 2013)
really good video Calvin! im a beginner with butterflies/balisongs but im thinking of buying the bradley 3 and one cheap training knife to get my skill up.

Thanks for the video! I have never owned a balisong before but find them really cool an interesting. I have decided to get the Bradley Kimura VI based on reviews from you, cuttlerylover, and other sources. Hopefully once it arrives I will be checking out more of your flipping tutorials!
Glad I grabbed a kimura when I could. Came back to this video after 8 years now I own a Benchmade 51
I want a new butterfly knife but a benchmade is WAY out of my price range. I would like to have one that I can change the blade between a trainer and a real blade kind of like a model 42. Something cheap but not too cheaply feeling I want something that will last. Can you give me some options. Thank you.

***** He accidentally said blade instead of knife near the beginning of the video. A 5.5 oz blade is really heavy for a balisong, and if the blade was that heavy the handles added weight for a knife that size would add up to almost a pound or so.
Very thorough video and awesome collection! Thank you.

I bought my BM 42 when I was in middleschool. I'm becoming old, and I still have the thing and it's still great. I have a 51 and a black blade Morpho as well and I love them both. The 42 beats them for flipping, but I've EDCed the 51 for years in cargo pants and the black morpho for years in black dress pants. When you're buying titanium and steel products, don't cheap out. I thank the 16 year old me for buying me my favorite knife.

In my country only those knives arw allowed that dont have a blade longer than 8.5 cm and isnt sharpened both sides, one side only. Which one should i buy as a beginner max price 85 EUR
I just bought the blue smallfly, great vids. Good work.
thanks man ive been trying to decide between a kimura or smallfly im going with the kimura most likely for flipping currently im flippin a filipino hand made love the videos keep it up bro
Man those knives are pretty! Wish I had the money to buy one.
So are the old Bradley Kimura balisongs better than the newer versions? Thanks
Great video. Any other brands you recommend? Kind of tired of benchmades.
You can tape the blade, electrical tape seems to work good, it won't affect balance, and if you don't put to much it will close just fine. I taped a cheap one, I don't think i would do it to an expensive one though.
I liked the Kimura III and V. Nice vid!
i picked up a 51 for the price of a 53 and my local knife shop today love it worth ever cent spent.
i got a bbBarfly bottle opener its a high quality balisong trainer/bottle opener the websit is great and you can customize your own
Very educational video thanks
I want a butterfly trainer and I live in the UK. Any suggestions to a good quality one that's not expensive
Yes, I am left handed, all the difference is that your tweaking the moves when learning them
i bought a balisong for 6$ 10 with shipping even tho it is illegal where i live it still came in but ye i saw the under side of the screw was loose to keep the sides of the handle together so i tightened those i also tightened the other ones and then the top ones which rotated the back side making it actually loosen up the loctite so ye i kept on screwing it tighter when it was loose again and then i stripped the screw (my fault of course) so i searched for screws that fitted now it has that + screw dont know what its called in english it fitted nicely was a bit 2 big so i made it smaller and now it works fine put some loctite in the screw it never breaks anymore. so if u buy a balisong less than 30$ you can do that but expect lots of work if u wanna keep using it
On the Kiumras does the latch ever get in the way of it fully oppening? I have a cheaper one that often the latch prevents the knife from fully oppning up.
I really need some opinion on if I should I get the kimura 2 or 5?? And which one feels nicer in your hands and has a better grip
I recently purchased the 53 a week ago, then returned it, and looked for a cheaper "work" butterfly. I returned to buy it and never looked back. I wanted another butterfly, I carried a CCC for about 2yrs before it died. Then I got some extra money, and planned to purchase a B915 triage. But I just didn't like the thickness of that knife. I got the 53 instead but as you said it is not a flipper, but so far a good work knife. I just wish the handles were aluminum, or at least had steel liners.
For best results maybe hardened 440c. I'm sure using the steel in the blade would be too expensive too.
This is probably a dumb question for knife enthusiasts but what does EDC stand for?
Love.the tanto on the Kimura 3.
in canada we cant use real ones (uhg) so we have to use trainers. have any suggestions for that or do all these knives come in a trainer form
I just started flipping and a friend of mine bought me a balisong as a gift. It is made by Pacific Cutlery, I have never heard of that brand, he gave it to me and said it was a good knife. Is that a good brand of balisong?
What do I do if the danger handle is stiff? It won't swing like the other handle dose
What size of balisong should i get because there's a small and large version the small is around 7.3 inches total. Im a girl and i have a medium hand size. Any idea?
I know, the design is similar in looks though. But yes I wish they would too, I started flipping with a CCC but the handle play kill all my momentum and right now the only ones being produced is the 51 and kimura, but I think the community as a whole would like them to re-mill 42s.
I love my 32. I can't afford a bunch of knives, but I did go out for the 32 and I chose it over the 51 because of the size of my hand. The 32 fits me much better and once you adjust to the size and weight, it's great for flipping. I can do aerials and spins quite easily, but when I go to say .. a solid handle Jaguar and back to the 32, it feels insanely light. And .. EDC is also great, even though it's illegal for the time being in my area, but that's not important. :P
I never saw this comment. But thanks! The kimura is always a good choice. There are better options no doubt but not for anything close to the price of a kimura. Glad you like it!
Good video man. Subscribed :) Being in Canada, where do you get your balisongs from?
Hey, I penspin and have been wanting to start using balisongs for a while now. Even for a beginner, you think they should get a bradley kimura?
i know there are trainers but what is the best think to possibly use to practice
thanks, but I didn't mean legally, I just meant does it work to carry latchless or does it open in your pocket and cause problems. I don't have a bali and want to get one, some of the ones I'm looking at don't have latches.
The 51 was abit downplayed in this video. They have a different tang design which is a very good one, and has a VERY strong g10 handle, plus I don't know about the bradley but it has a spring loaded lock making it easier to open but grips extra tight when locked closed.
Maybe a follow up video on blunt/training bailsongs to get? Though, TBH, I can't think of many brands that make them.
i would choose a larger one because it would be easyer to flip and a hevier one if ur intrested a bench maid 51 morfo cuz its not REALLY heavy but its a good beginer
What about the Kimura 7? Is that one the 'same' as the other also? I think it looks the best out of all of them.
Got the 51 morpho for a first. It flips, cuts, and is just overl a great knife. The bleeding caused by its sharp blade can be severe, so be careful (speaking from experience, my hand looks like a chefs cutting board :p)
These look amazing and very useful
You got that right, as soon as I got mine I flipped it for maybe 5 minutes before I grabbed the wrong handle and closed it on my pointer finger. Ended up with 8 stitches and a chip out of the bone.
kimura blades are soooooo good for the price. anyone who wants to try flipping should start with this. then buy more if you want to continue and progress. but i got my kimura V blade and it is amazing.
but the 42 will only be going up in collecters value so whether you hand it down or sell it you have a steady investment there.
@psalmsofplanets0722 Arent they discontinued now, or double the price or something?
I heard painters tape is good because it leaves no sticky residue after removal, right? what type of tape would you use?
For a beginner, would you recommend a small or large size for flipping.
Great video! I'm thinking about getting the Kimura 3. I know blades that are longer than 2.5 inches and balisongs are not allowed in my state. Would it still be okay if I kept It at home or is it illegal for it to be in my possession no matter what?
Calvin, Im planning on spending no more than 100$ on a Balisong. But I'm still deciding on which to get. Which balisong do you recommend that's under a price of 100$
Yep its cheap strong and durable and u can customize it mine has a kriss blade and marble handles
Its live working with small nunchucks, but with blades in the middle of them
Hey Calvin ^^ I was thinking about getting a trainer, not something fancy (around 20-40$) I though about the BBBarfly. Should I get it?
@zakarywin7645

They're actually pretty fun, but I'd recommend a bear and son if you're looking for a decent flipper as well.
@CalviNNation, the one question i have left is who do you trust to buy from? I fucked up with my mistake of trying to order from RSI which i corrector early by cancelling my order.
Well, I wanna buy a balisong, but I dont wanna buy an expencive one because I wont use is much and it's pretty much just for ''acting cool'' or doing something when I'm bored, learning new tricks, etc. What's the deal with cheap ones? do they break easily or something?
I'm in the UK and Butterfly knives are illegal. Which Website can set me up Thank you
Sooo, that drawer is sweet. Is that a toolbox or something? Thanks.
Well, the chimera line is discontinued so idk what to be now since my parents aren't willing to go higher than 100
kimura is heading my way thanks for the intoduction
I have never touched or used a balisong I only intend to play around Should i get a training one? (no edge its dull so no cuts)
Hey my balisong has a handle that wobbles badly should I go to my knive suplier cause I don't know
Any experience with bear and sons? I heard their knives are hit and miss but for the pricepoint you can't beat it.
is there any way to prevent getting cut with a balisong, Could you cover the blade or would that ruin the balance, not close properly? Or does anyone wear thin gloves ?
