Gaming laptops are always expensive and to get the best performance for the money you always have to spend extra money to get best performance to price ratio. Bigger thing these days is gpu being really good such as 4060 and 4070 mobile BUT there smaller Vram holds them back it just something GPU brand control and not the laptop brand it self It been roughly 7 weeks until I Start finding my laptop, and I came down to any asus rog series with 4080 with 32gb or Alienware x16 or m16 (r2 if soon comes with 4080 with 32gb) .

What even is this list. Why would you ever consider a 3000$+ laptop with an rtx 4050 is beyond me, unless it's to justify the even more ridicolous price of that macbook. There's plenty of budget laptops with those same specs, or laptopts at the same price point with literal beast configurations. For some reason now also more expensive equals better score. Also, unless your primary focus is real time rendering like twinmotion, unreal engine, d5 and such, please consider CPU and RAM first of all, which are not even mentioned in the video. There's plenty of gaming laptops out there with solid GPU but CPUs and RAM that are fine for gaming but just won't cut it for any sort of complex CAD/BIM work

If you’re an architect in the industry today you are using real time rendering. I don’t know any successful or up and coming architects who aren’t (excluding those who have already succeeded in their careers and rarely use computers anymore).

Hey mate, I think there's a few problems with your video. I think your scoring methodology is severely flawed and inconsistent. Pricing as your scoring category doesn't really make sense as a higher price will command a better score, irrespective of quality. It may be better to place more emphasis on value instead. You list the dell xps as having a 7hr battery on OLED, giving it a score of 3, but give the 9hr batter life of the lenovo a 1. Your screen category lists inconsistent criteria. Ips and oled are display panel technologies, whilst QHD and FHD are resolutions, which may apply to both displays. Apple's XDR display is also a type of IPS panel too. I hope potential shoppers do their due diligence elsewhere. Take this video with a huge rock of salt.

Software support is crucial. It's a major part of any Architects needs it deserves a lower score than 4 on that surely. Secondly, I beg to differ on the screen. It's a good screen but not necessarily better than the rest. It's also too expensive to be honest and this scoring system doesn't work very well to reflect that. That more expensive laptops get a higher score, really?

I disagree on the screen part of every laptop. OLED aren't necessarily better than IPS screens and depends on the quality of the panel. The apple laptop was given a high score for having an "XDR" screen which is an IPS screen and the reason why the score was high was because he used an "XDR" display. Well the Lenovo laptop had an IPS display and gave it a score of 2 even without using it physically 😂

Since the MacBookPro M3max runs the best software: Vectorworks, ArchiCAD, TwinMotion and Enscape why mark it down for compatibility? Another factor is that the Apple Silicon laptops and desktops use far less electrical energy (about half) :-) It therefore runs ALL the software and architecture needs. There is no software U am missing having used just Apple hardware for 20 years, replacing each (laptop and desktop) after a minimum of 6 years.

@@DavidTomic I'm also over a decade in the career as well and yes I've seen it hindering many, either by completely locking out many people with specific workflows or by people not accessing certain features there software has to offer. Revit and D5 for example are a big deal for many, the fact that you have to spend extra cash to access these is not ideal, just get a windows device. The fact that you pay for Twinmotion to not be able to use ray tracing is also absurd. I'm not sure Twinmotion has even updated their software to support this, but it's already being counted as a win? Nah, it works for you, and it's fine to admit that. But when reviewing a device for the general Architecture community, honesty while taking into account what others experience is important. I'm fortunate like you, that I use Archicad daily, but I have had situations where I needed to use Revit or learn D5 and those were concerning moments. Every time I've needed to make a hyper realistic rendering, I've had to turn to a windows device that supports those features.

  • @HarD4545

Macbook Pro should've been in the E tier for architecture. And every other Macs, too. No Revit, No 3dsmax, no Vray GPU or Corona, no Lumion, no D5 "But I can run Windows software with Parallels. Duhh!" Bruh, it's a VM. Good luck working with your unoptimized software. If you're an architect, just get a Windows machine with at least an RTX 3060 or higher, a new-gen i7 or Ryzen 7 or higher, and 16 GB of RAM or more. Render engines are just fully optimized with Nvidia RTX cards and x86 processor. Don't even bother buying Macs. Period. No excuses

Not sure what you do all day as an architect but literally less than 1% of my job is rendering and I haven’t used revit professionally for over a decade. If you’re a sole practice that does a lot of renders then yes, but at that level enscape and twinmotion are the first choice to ensure your business is profitable. If you’re a student, then renders are also important as let’s be honest thats what you’re graded on most of the time.

I completely agree with your perspective! While pursuing my Masters in Architecture in NZ, I've gone through two MacBooks, each considered the best at the time, but they all succumbed to the workload and killed the motherboard. Now, I'm switching to Windows, as most firms here prefer it for renders. Even the leading NZ firm, which creates its own renders, despises Macs. In the professional realm, Macs struggle with Revit, which is a minority software among NZ firms. Plus, the battery life deteriorates rapidly over time. So, yes, I wholeheartedly agree with your observation.

Any other laptop tier list even from the most stupid KZreadr would score the price according to what you get not just assume your getting the best just for paying more, the dell xps is the best example of an expensive laptop that lacks of hardware power of another laptop with a similar or even lower price.
