Which Airline Should I Pick For My Next London-New York Flight?

Ойын-сауық

The London-New York pairing is one of the most lucrative segments in aviation, seeing a high amount of traffic and plenty of demand for premium cabins. In 2019, over 3.1 million passengers flew between London and New York - a route that was seeing annual growth ahead of the pandemic. Following the pandemic downturn, demand has shot back up, with London Heathrow alone processing more than 3 million passengers to New York throughout 2023.
Airlines with jets big and small in both the US and UK are heavily active with their services between the two metropolises. There are currently seven carriers operating direct services between London and New York, including two relative newcomers to the scene in the form of JetBlue and Norse Atlantic Airways. So which carrier should you fly with?

    One thing that never seems to be discussed, and a reason I won’t use Jet Blue is the cruising speeds of the narrow bodies vs wide bodies. A Jet Blue A321 will take about 7hours 30 minutes flight time from LHR - JFK, whereas on a 777 or A350 it’s about 7 hours. Quite a big difference.

    I just took JetBlue mint class. It was great. So here is the thing that you are unaware off. The airplane boarding takes 20 min. They close the door and off you go. Then in JFK, you arrive at their own terminal with their own immigration. So you arrive with just your flight, which is around 200 people. Everybody was through immigration in 10 to 15 min. Then when you get your bags, they arrive quickly as well, since it’s just a 321. Basically, from landing to out on the street in less than 30 min. You try that with any other airline.

    Interesting and insightful coverage, thanks. These city pairs remain fascinating to me, in terms of connectivity and the sheer amount of traffic between them. I think JetBlue’s playing more so in the big carriers (vs ‘low-cost’) sandbox.. its fares alone (and of course differentiated service) reflect this.

    Actual United polaris is a fantastic product…but check the layout for any United business flight…not too long ago i found you could be on a united *business* class flight that was 8 abreast in a 777. Or for a couple bucks more (based on my company agreements) be on the upper deck of a 747-8, 4 across in your own little world. Easy choice.

    British Airways used to do an Airbus A319 flight from Heathrow to New York via Shannon. It was an all premium layout and took over the old Concorde flight number. It stopped in Shannon on the way from Heathrow for fuel and give pre clearance to US passengers. With a flight duration that allows for a nap as opposed to a night of restful sleep, premium cabins seem superfluous for the price. Extra legroom economy is the best value.

  • @gobbledygook5786

    @gobbledygook5786

    Ай бұрын

    Correct. The reason the price is expensive to an ordinary consumer is because the prices are catered more to big businesses who pay their employees' way across the pond in Business. This is why they make so much profit in premium cabins - most people there aren't directly paying to be there, which is why they can keep it that way.

  • @Chris-ys7mp

    Not all of these economy seats are created equal. For instance the Virgin flights have a bit more seat recline which dramatically reduces leg room if the person in front of you puts their seat back. If you're flying with a partner in economy Delta is the way to go because you can get a window and aisle seat together on the 767 and A330.

    Operating with a smaller aircraft, I.E. the 777,787, or 767, allows the airline to offer the same amount of seats over, say, seven flights, than over two A380 flights. This means they can offer more options and choices to customers. They make most of their revenue on this route through big businesses paying to fly their employees in Business class, and these employees require multiple different departure times to be more efficient, making A380 operation maybe slightly more efficient, but not sustainable or favorable for customers. As for the 747, most of them were retired due to fuel efficiency, but before 2020, BA used to operate give or take four 747's daily. Hope this helps! @jwil4286

    @@benchoflemons398I have had great experiences flying American in the past 10 years! People like to complain about the smallest unreasonable things that other airlines also have. People just like to hate even if they’ve only flown once on AA cause they follow what others complain about that has nothing to do with them.

    United delta or VA. if flying business class. If you want first class pick AA or BA since they are the only options. Jetblue for Economy class

    I would rather fly Ryanair transatlantic before United, Ryanair doesn’t have consistent rude staff and terrible cold food. There are plenty of other much greater options than paying to have a terrible experience.
