    One of the great things about Pestilens is their Plague Monks. The Glottkin and the Plague Monks has such a tremendous synergy, it's crazy. Glottkin buffs gives 1 HP per model in their Fleshy Abundance spell, and his command ability allows them to change their attacks from 2 for the Blades to 3 and their Staves from 1 to 2. The Plague Monks can take both the Staves and the Blades, meaning you go from 3 attacks with Staves and Foetid Blades dual-wield to 5. The other thing is that Plague Monks have Massive Regiments, allowing them to become cheaper. Another fun note, is that if you run blades only [for the buff I am about to mention], which allows them to re-roll all hits [period] and on successful charges they gain an additional attack. So if you get the charge off, you are getting back 1 attack. In addition with the Feculent Gnarlmaw, you can now run and charge with your Plague Monks. The rats, already fast due to their Skaven nature are moving at 6". Having the option to now also run to get potentially up to 12" and another 12" after that [rolling like a god] means their maximum distance is now an impressive 24" run and charge, or at minimum a charge of Move+Run+Charge of 10". Add in a Great Unclean One with the Doomsday Bell, and you can add 3" flat to that, jumping it to 27" max/13" min. Add in the Movement buff on the Wheel of Corruption, +2" Movement in that cycle phase, and you have 29"/15". I feel that the Plague Monks are a great pick up, even more so with the Glottkin and having a Great Unclean One. They win by throwing overwhelming numbers of dice to their enemy, and nothing is scarier then watching one model have 2 HP [in a group of 40 that means the entire unit is now worth 80 wounds and has an impressive 3-5 attacks per model, and with customization, the Rats can offer more things [AoE Mortal wounds, Rend on 6's, Mortal Wounds on 6's, they explode when they die, potentially dishing out more mortal wounds, etc.] On a good day, an average day you're throwing out 30-50 dice. On a good day, 60-80+. On a bad day, 20-30. And something *will* stick. I'm a hardcore fan of mixing Pestilens with Nurgle, I feel as if the Maggotkin tome is going to empower them, more so in a way that Pestilens is now going to be better playing as Maggotkin, rather then Pestilens. As much as I love Pestilens, Nurgle now pumps out just as many mortal wounds as they used to, and I can now pump out more by just slapping my Pestilens units under a Maggotkin allegiance. A sad day for rats, but a good day for Papa Nurgle.

    Hi Doug, thanks for the video! I’ve been watching a ton of your videos and trying to learn as much as I can. Super helpful! I’m considering getting into AOS as a store just opened down the road from me. I’m most fascinated by Nurgle. However I don’t love the look of the Nurgle Daemons starting box figures and am leaning towards Slaves to Darkness. Do you think it would still be worth getting the Maggotkin battletome if I only had the slaves to Darkness starter set? I can’t afford much else right now, but am def interested in getting some models like the Glotkin and Gutrot Spume down the road. I’m kind of just going off what I think looks awesome, but still want to be smart about it gameplay wise as my resources are limited.

  • @2Tough

    @2Tough

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Matthew, welcome to my channel and the hobby!!! Slaves to Darkness is an incredibly versatile army, and one that I use myself! Here's how the keywaord thing works in relation to a battletome: All Slaves to Darkness (StD) units cant take a mark for no charge. The individual battletomes for each god have that deity's name as the keyword. Therefore, you can buy the StD start box, mark it all nurgle and boom, you have a maggotkin of Nurgle army. Tired of Nurgle? Just say they all have the mark of Tzeentch and boom, a Disciples of Tzeentch army. Going further, the Glottkin has a stellar command ability that lets all NURGLE units get +1 attack, which means your StD also get that if they have the mark of NURGLE! If you dont like the Plagueberaers (and I totally understand) really consider the StD set. Warriors of Chaos are a great battleline, and so are marauders. The sorcerer will be allowed to take a spell from the "Mortal,NURGLE" spell list and there are some nasty things there. Maggotkin is a very new army so it army take a while to learn, there isnt a ton on the web just yet. Based on what you've told me, grab teh StD starter box and the Maggotkin battletome. Also download the app/print off the StD warscrolls so you can just stick them in the maggotkin book. Comments tend to get buried very easily, so if you have more questions feel free to head over to our facebook page and message me through there :)

    Sure. It also includes one of the first 'pointed' battalions that are playable in matched play solely with the contents of the box. Not sure what the total cost of blightwar is with the new costs in Maggotkin, but obviously you'd need at least 2 battleline for a 1000 pt game.

    There are are few things I'd suggest looking into this: You most likely wont need as many heroes as you out in here, I suggest taking some out for more troops. Plaguebearers are best in big squads of 30 (they get a discount at 30 guys and an extra ability at 20). But they are your only Battleline choice besides Blightkings, and you need 3 squads. Secondly, you have some dead ends in here, specifically Morbidex and the Bilepiper. Why? Because their abilities specifically work with Nurglings and you don't have any (you could summon them, but I wouldn't recommend relying on that). Morbidex looses half of his abilities without Nurglings and the Bilepiper would only have one target for his second ability, the Great Unclean One. If you were to take these two out, you'd have 330 more points to spend, which is enough for a full 30 squad of Plaguebearers. That way you have a full 30, a set of 20 (not optimal but at least they get the buff) and another 10 to get 3 battleline units. Or you could just take 3×5 Blightkings and be done with it, they cost about as much as 40 Plaguebearers (160 for 5 Kings, 120 for 10 Bearers, or ca. 107 if you take 30 of them). Another tip: Pull the Plaguemonks into a single squad. They synergize amazingly with the Glottkin, but their abilities can only buff one unit of Monks at a time, so putting all the eggs in one basket is the way to go. However, I have some suggestions for lists you might like (Note: going by what you put together I assume you're not super fond of Rotbringers, so I mostly avoided them here). You mentioned you're a fan of Great Unclean Ones, and, low and behold, there's a battalion that includes.... drumroll please.... 3 of them and gives them extra abilities! One can be Rotigus, a named character. It's a hefty chunk of points at 1080 though, meaning that the rest of your army becomes somewhat of an entourage for your big council of fat dudes. A Herald, so either Poxbringer, Bilepiper or Scrivener, plus 30 Plaguebearers and two squads of 20 Plaguebearers (3×5 Blightkings plus 30 Plaguebearers and a Herald is another option) would round it out, *HOWEVER* this list is *very* one-sided and somewhat of a Death Star. Also... while you get cool spells via the chonky trio, they don't get any bonuses to cast. So, depending on who you are playing against, they might completely shut down your sorcery, which you are banking on (plus a lot of your stuff casts on a seven, so you're more or less looking at coinflip, even if there's nobody to throw a club between your legs). A more balanced list, in my opinion, would be a stacked Tallyband of Nurgle: 1 Great Unclean one (or Rotigus) 1 Bilepiper 3×30 Plaguebearers 3 Plague Drones 2×3 Nurglings (to synergize with the Piper. Also they're cute) This would give you a proper Nurgle daemons list. Whether you want to take Rotigus is up to you since then you'd be wasting an artifact (you get 2, one by default and one for the Tallyband, Rotigus can't take one), but you could cut down on one of your Plaguebearer squads to slot in a Spoilpox Scrivener or Poxbringer if you wanted to have Rotigus and 2 artefacts. Now, this doesn't include rats, but the Battalion would be complete with the Piper, the Bearers and the Drones, so you could swap out the Nurglings and Great Unclean one for Rotbringers, Rats, the Glottkin (though you'd probably have to cut down on some of your Plaguebearers, the Glottkin are expensive), or even swap out the GUO for Morbidex and another pack of Nurglings if you want to go more in that directions. Just note: if you take out Nurglings, swap in a Scrivener for the Piper. These list are not necessarily super optimal, but they're fun in my opinion. Oh and don't forget about the trees, one for free and in my opinion it's generally good to have one to summon.

    @@GumshoeClassic wow thanks alot for this massive explanation, tbh the list i made was with the warscrollbuilder and i just picked some characters that looked cool and make it 2k points, I have no clue what some of the units do i just picked them. i didnt even know about battalions :p I think i wanna keep it mainly nurgle and forget about the skaven models, i was just looking for a versatile cool looking army, but i dont need skaven for that. Tbh the 3 fat ones are really cool, is Glottkin included in those? only downside is since i have no army yet 3 big boys is a pretty big purchase, so i wanted to keep it to one for now. :p I figured out the best way for me to collect them (cheapish and easily) is to get 2 start collecting nurgle boxes and a box of start collecting maggotkin. that way i have the main units for the army and can expand from there (getting all the heroes, fill up the plaguebearers etc.), the information you gave me is really usefull, definitely will come back to this answer a lot :p. I also picked only 30 plaguebearers cause i didnt wanna overbuy units, and 3x5 looks to small for me (just the look of the army) but now i have a lot to experiment with, thanks a lot for your time and knowledge :D

  • @GumshoeClassic

    @GumshoeClassic

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@TheDutchMusician No problem pal :) The Glottkin are not a Great Unclean One, so they sadly can't be put into the trio battalion. The Start collecting boxes are a great way to start, especially due to the points they have in them (plus even if you don't use some of the units the box is so cheap that it doesn't really matter). Of course I suggest buying the rulebooks before you really commit to an army. They aren't technically required to play, but the Core Book gives you all the general stuff (including battle plans and spells) and the Battletome has everything for your army specifically like Battalions, abilities etc.. The Generals Handbook has the updated points for matched play, but you can find those online as well (Also there is most likely a new one coming out in a few months). There are also some supplements, Wrath of the Everchosen has subfactions for Nurgle and is some new stuff for them coming out soon-ish. But none of the supplements are required to play, just watch out for when they release an entirely new Battletome, whenever that might happen. Or maybe you already know about the rulebooks and I just wasted time, but better safe than sorry. Now, a cool thing about your choice of boxes: These are only a few steps away from a full 2000 point list (All 3 boxes are, at the point of writing this, slighlty below 1500 points). However, there's another option worth thinking about: Assuming that you want to have a daemon-focused army AND don't really care about the Pusgoyle Blightlords (the flying dudes in the Maggotkin box) or the Lord of Blights (the hero in that box), you could instead buy two boxes of Blightkings seperatelyand another daemons start collecting. The reason: Three Daemons start collecting boxes coupled with two boxes of Blightkings make a list that can include a Great Unclean One/Glottkin and has stuff to summon during the game. Assuming my notes on the recent points changes are correct, it would be a Tallyband consisting of: Two different heralds; A Great Unclean One; 30 Plaguebearers; 3×3 Plague Drones; 2×3 Nurglings; And additionally: 2×5 Blightkings; If the GUO and one unit of Nurglings are taken out, you can use the Glottkin (they can't be in the Tallyband). With that list you have 1 or 2 units of Nurglings left to summon (and of course the Feculant Gnarlmaws). Of course this is only a suggestion meant to inspire some ideas, so do whatever you fancy ;) I'm by no means a super expert on Nurgle, in fact I'm in the process of starting a Nurgle army as well. In the end the most important rule for building armies is the rule of cool. If you like something, go for it.
