From the best-selling novel comes a captivating mystery. Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lay within the marsh.
Where the Crawdads Sing stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) as “Kya Clark,” Taylor John Smith (Sharp Objects) as “Tate Walker,” Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man) as “Chase Andrews,” Michael Hyatt (Snowfall) as “Mabel,” Sterling Macer, Jr. (Double Down) as “Jumpin’,” and David Strathairn (Nomadland) as “Tom Milton.” Olivia Newman (First Match) directs the screenplay by Lucy Alibar (Beasts of the Southern Wild) based upon the novel by Delia Owens. The 3000 Pictures film is being produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.

You can mark down "Carolina" written and performed by Taylor Swift as the first official entry into the "Best Original Song" Awards Race and don't be surprised if the film itself becomes a player during award season. Looks great. Daisy Edgar-Jones deserves all the love and all the buzz.

Well she did go to the public beach several times and was just off hiding on the side. The moment she meets Chase, he does see her behind a tree so that part is accurate. We also don't know whether Tate & Chase ever had a confrontation. There's mentioning of Tate seeing Chase around town. Perhaps they had one and perhaps they didn't. I don't think it's a huge deal. I would love to see a ton of time spent on Kya growing up on her own. We need to understand how wild this girl is. And appreciate all that she does on her own.

I think Daisy Edgar-Jones is a great choice for Kya, I loved her in Normal People and so many things about this are exactly as I pictured. The only thing I don't think they nailed is the costume/styling! I envisioned Kya to look a little more "wild" with more loose home-made hippy style clothing, messier hair etc. She looks extremely put together in a lot of these shots - wearing denim and a shirt! It doesn't seem exactly fitting for someone who lives in a shack by the swamp.

I accidently talked my hubby and daughter into going to watch this romantic movie last night... But bc I thought the theater was supposed to be all old school vintage possibly haunted. The summary said thriller, drama, crime... tho & it still somehow was a love story... I caught him cwying. He wasn't really but I saw him tearing up. When we left he tried to pull his tough guy thing all like pshhh dragging me into to see some girly movie. 😊 it was cute tho, the experience. Bc as far as my daughter & I, that was our first time in an old theater. & I knew she'd appreciate the aesthetic. I always try to tell my hubby it's not always about $(tho I wish he was better at saving 😒), it's just about the effort he puts in. The tickets were half the amount of some regular priced type tickets.. He said he would've rather watched Thor in the mall 😒. Him & his fictional stories. Also, im the person eho ruins all movies. Bc I'll always predict things for fun, but it always turns out to be true. Me constantly on yt trying to relate is like yes, im an intellectual recluse who has a fondness for literature :/. 😔 I do empathize to her background tho. But I already knew b4 I knew.. also also living in nc trying to recall anything I've ever heard of Norfolk is like is that by a beach? My native local hubby...: idk! Also also also heh on me going on a swift binge recently b4 watching this movie. I didn't know she was in the productions. I thought it was gonna be a boring story about country bluegrass local singers trying to make it big. Boring, bc thats not really my thing. I thought that cabin was cute tho

I think that the movie version of any great story falls short when it is condensed into what people expect to sit through. Saying that, I wont miss it. If you've never read the book, you're missing one of the best in a while.

This movie. It ripped my heart out. I think that it will strike a cord in people who were abandoned as children (myself included) or who just grew up without parents. You look for love in everything and everyone when you grow up without it, but people with bad intentions usually pick up on that and take advantage of it. Now as an adult, I wish I could've taken care of myself. Maybe that's why throughout the whole movie I just wanted to hug Kya so tight. Anyways, go watch it, it's wonderful.

I wish I had picked it up sooner! One of the best books I've ever read, maybe the absolute best. I have to think hard on that but it's so good. Had me crying multiple times. Kya is just a triumph. I couldn't imagine being left like that over and over and to be alone by the age of 10 living in a home w/ no power, no running water, no money coming in. And I just love that she figured it out, she gets educated (big thanks to Tate) and just lives the way she wants. She studied nature and it paid off for her (again, credit also Tate). I love that because to me, that's what life is about. "Where the Crawdads Sing" is a love letter to life. And a love letter to being a strong, independent person.

I just finished reading the book, it was incredibly well-written. The imagery and description of the nature in, surrounding the marsh incredibly detailed. Kya and Tate's characters were well-fleshed out. The diction to differentiate the social classes, upbringing or educational background through the characters was a nice touch. The poems intricately woven into the storyline. A truly resilient character in a harsh, cruel and unforgiving world - survival of the fittest. It really is a good story and I can't wait to see how this film adaptation turns out.

For me as a male reader, the most emotional moments were when she gives a copy of her first book to Jumpin, the way that scene was written, and then when a certain character showed up in his red truck (hope that didn't give anything away =] ) and then obviously at the end when she and another character finally share their feelings

Their first-time interaction scene when he played on the beach with his friends can't be more wrong. Kya always avoided the town people. She wanted to have social contact but too scared to be close to them. She always run and hid. That's her life. How can they put her like a high school girl sitting next to them and pretending to draw a picture? :)))

First of all, this is my favorite book and I’m so grateful to see all of the effort that has gone into bringing this story to life. At first I agreed with everyone saying “she looks too clean” but honestly I think it was a brilliant choice. Everyone must have pictured the “Marsh girl” or “swamp child” as rugged and dirty, but them portraying Kya as relatively put together shows how she is not the monster they must have imagined and in contrast she took good care of herself. I remember in one chapter she gave herself what her Ma called “a deep clean” which consisted of cutting her hair and scrubbing her nails. Mabel also helped Kya by passing along clothes and even in the book Kya did wear dresses so I actually agree with the shown aesthetic ❤️🌿

I hope they spend a lot of time with her fascination with the marsh and then with Tate teaching her to read. Hopefully that latter element isn't completed in 5-7 minutes of film, but spent time on, 20 minutes or so of that relationship building and then another 5 on the heartache she endured when he didn't come back for 5 years.

The beauty of the book is in nature and Kia's fascinating relationship with it, and her changes through adolescence into womanhood.agree with others from the trailer that Daisy is made a little too coiffured for my liking, though still incredibly sexy, in this production it should be a more wild sexiness, unlike in normal people. But if it introduces more to the book it's a winner for me, and if u haven't yet read it, get a life haha

All her many pretty colored girl clothes seem to be so out of place in the remote marsh where she lived. No money, no income, no internet to order, no one to teach her style. Bed linens and pillows were fresher and better fluffed up pillows than I have on my bed. So clean and fresh for who. No washer or dryer just seemed like director was trying too hard to lure this actress into a part in the remote marsh that it did not seem real!

Cause I kinda thought of Kaya Scodelario when reading the book. And then I watch her in Normal People, she's definitely fitting. She does have that psycho vibe with innocent face. And also I'm a Swiftie, Carolina is definitely a surprise.

I'm from Georgia and have family in North Carolina. Compliments to Daisy's dialect coach. I am dialect aware, as I speak a few languages. She did pretty well, with only a slight deviation from the correct long-i sound. That is phenomenal for a Brit. Daisy is obviously very talented. It just makes me wonder what the problem was casting a real North Carolinian, or at least an actress from the southeast USA. Because when an American is cast in an English role, we hear no end of criticisms. Don't deny it. I've been there. All good wishes. In the end, I"m going to go see this one because at least it is original, and not yet another sequel, prequel, remake, reboot or insipid comic book superhero movie. All good wishes!

I think part of it is Brits tend to be better at American accents than the other way around. It's not a cultural thing. It's because English actors all go to drama school where they learn accents and elocution and all of that whereas drama school is actually relatively rare for American actors. American actors who are good at accents ... Tend to be the ones who went to drama school.
