good stuff. input SWR to amp important and most radios have that bult in. should monitor SWR at the amp to save it from damage. good amps have that bult in. if running low pass filter that after the amp. if running low power band pass filter that goes between radio and amp. a high power band pass goes after the amp. I have to use my 7300 internal tuner on my tube amp for 12 meters only. my antenna side is good. some tube amps do that. if I tune for 12 meters my input SWR up on 10 meters. only one tunning slug and had to pick. but 2:1 on 12 not too bad. some times I forget to input tune on 12 . still works fine. is 1.5 SWR or less input on other bands. I do not use 12 meters much so nothing to worry about. I only need 70-80 watts in to get 1300 watts out. I never go over 800 and my ALC for the amp is set that way. better on tubes. FT8 I keep under 400 watts or 500 short time. I watch tube amp tempter. hot air out the vent. I feel heat I cut back. I get great tube life. 73's

This was excellent except for a few points. First, if the amp and the radio are not matched like Steve said they should be, then somethings wrong with the input to the amp. Second, the swr meter should be between the amp and the tuner. The tuner isn't actually tuning the antenna, its tuning what the radio is seeing as the antenna. If you put the swr meter between the tuner and antenna, no matter how hard you try the swr isn't going to change on the antenna. The antenna isn't going to change. You however want to put a power meter between the tuner and antenna, but then again if the swr is off, you won't get the power being reflected back because of the bad swr.

SWR meter at the antenna end will read the high SWR you are trying to match.

If using a remote tuner like an sgc 230 what kind of wire is recommended for the control cable? I don't see anyone mentioning this
