Gerrit and I are very excited to share our full production Find Background Script! Featuring a fully developed very robust algorithm to quickly find the optimal ROI for your background. It uses a weighted gradient descent method that incorporates the regions brightness, standard deviation, and other factors to zero in on the true background region of interest. This is a lot more robust than the beta version and I am blown away at how precise it is! Huge shout out to Gerrit who did such an amazing job with the development of the script and I look forward to collaborating with him on future projects! I expect there will be a lot of great things coming from him in the future!

    Thanks Frank and Gerrit. Super work, finding a suitable background area has always be a source of anxiety and you've taken the guesswork out of it.

    I've never seen background neutralization do anything until I tried the script. It always just made the image dark then STF it's exactly as before. Maybe I wasn't choosing the best background window before.

    When running processes like BackgroundNeutralization, ColorCalibration, or SPCC it is important to use Linked STF. If you use UnLinked STF it will llook like nothing has changed as STF is stretching the channels seperately.

    Your scripts are awesome, used them on my photo with great results. However I have tried installing manually or by adding repository on my installation and they don't show up in the menu, I have to manually run the scripts from the hard drive. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    Got a really challenging target that I can't get this to work on (The Dark Doodad). It keeps selecting the nebula as the background. :(

  • @setiv2

    @setiv2

    The nebula may actually be the darkest region in the image and if there isnt a specific color caste to it it may be the best area. You may also want to adjust the values off the default. Either try an image size of 100 vs the default of 50 as this will include more background sampling, or try the slow search. I am also working on the next version in tough cases it will allow the user to define a search area to look in, that way you can specifically avoid areas where either the gradient is corrected well or other dark patches you want to avoid. I do have a drive link if you want to upload your master if you want me to take a look at it drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U9tnYBD8Vlj1DpE7GzDuAV5LWldeS91N?usp=drive_link

    I have a Problem downloaden the Tool in the Repository.. "Parsing repository update information: Parsing Signature element (line=1 offset=0): Unknown code signing identity 'FranklinMarek'" Any Idea ? The Tools work in the Standalone with the Script Manually

    If you havent upgraded to PixInsight build 1605 (which came out in March) I highly recommend you do that as all scripts are going to require signatures going forward. You do this from the PixInsight download site. This will fix the error if you are trying to use the repository. If you still run into a parsing error or signature error you can download the zip file directly from my website and then just extract the .js file (delete the .xsgn file). You can then go to Scripts -> Feature Scripts -> Add Script and select the folder you extracted the .js file too. Let me know if this helps Frank

    I can't load the script into Pixinsight. Either using the repository or manually. It doesn't show up and if I try to run it directly I get an error.
