Where have I been and what's next?
Ғылым және технология
To quote the wise old Bender B. Rodriguez- I'm back, baby!
This is my first video back after a few weeks away. What have I been up to and what's next? Watch the video to find out? Or just skip around to the chapters... whatever. You know what you want, you're KZread viewers.
I appreciate each of you for watching my videos. Do any of you even read video descriptions? I bet most folks don't. I mean, honestly, I get it. So many KZread video descriptions are basically nothing but affiliate links at this point. What's up with that, anyway? Maybe if KZread funded us better we'd feel inclined to, you know, not do that? At the same time, what is this rampant consumerism doing to the "vibe" for KZreadrs? Particularly with the coming rise of AI, how likely is it that in the next few years, most KZreadrs will be reading AI-written scripts with AI-written ad-reads and AI-derived shopping lists for you all to follow. I have some serious concerns that the zeitgeist will be impacted. Shoot, the upload is almost done.
Speaking of consumerism run amok, I suppose I have an obligation to share my support links. You can find the direct links at support.linux.mom, which contains an up-to-date list. At the moment, I've just launched a Ko-Fi as well: ko-fi.com/VeronicaExplains. There's other places too, but let's be honest, I'm just hoping someone actually read this far.
Tell you what, if you read this far into this description, go ahead and leave me a comment with "I understand". That way I'll know this was worth it.
Ack! I almost forgot the damn chapters and hashtags- do they even do anything anyway?
00:00 Should I even call it an introduction? Does it matter?
01:04 It's my basement!
02:45 Madness takes its toll... retro madness.
03:44 Supporter-only livestreams as a thank you for my supporters

I suppose I should "pin a comment" like the cool kids do with all of the places to support me. My new Ko-Fi account: ko-fi.com/veronicaexplains Patreon: patreon.com/VeronicaExplains Merch store: vkc.sh/merch Most of the nerdy shirts I wear on the channel you can buy from my merch store. Thanks all!

I'm glad you are feeling better Veronica. It's good to have you back!
Mr. Ed reference?! “Test your backups” T-shirt?! Subscribed
A label maker! Once you get a label maker, nothing, no thing, is left unlabelled.
Printing a label for the box of label maker parts? PERFECTION!
Hi Veronica! I understand. 😉 BTW: I like descriptions below the videos. I read them all. 😀 Have found your channel by searching for new videos about GrapheneOS. I wish you and your family only the best.
I was sick too, and my voice was disappearing. I am very glad to hear from you again!!
Amazing job Veronica. You are an inspiration! I hope to grow up to explain tech as well as you do someday. Kudos for the amazing job, hope you get all the support you deserve -- which, in my opinion, is a lot!
Whoa - we've missed you! Welcome back! I'm glad you took the time to recover. :)
Glad you're feeling better, and quite a nice iMac you have there!

I just now found this channel. Love your humor Veronica! Subbed!
Great to see you back, Veronica! I'm looking forward to videos from the new space about fun and quirky old operating systems and programming languages. Plus more Linux tips! I understand.
Easily one of my favorite Cobol devs. I'm gonna need to learn peer tune now
I really enjoy Public Service Announcement shirts! I look forward to all the future content, perhaps even an episode of Veronica Explains about testing backups?? Thank you for your time!
your one of my favorite tech vlogs. i love the nerdy things you do. glad your feeling better and hope you can continue to educate.
Welcome back and thanks for your informative and fun videos! Hope everyone at home is feeling much better. For now, focus on what is really important, and then you can slowly speed it up from there.
I understand too. I particularly enjoy watching your informative linux videos.
Thanks for your high-quality and entertaining videos. Keep up the good work! Glad y'all are doin better.
That StarCraft reference was the best!!!
I understand!! Glad to know that you are better! Is wonderful to have you back and wish you all the best!! 😊
The animation reminds me of what I would see in courtroom computer reenactments of crimes.
Good to see you back! But more important great to hear you are over whatever it was.
youre channel is so refreshing and i love seeing an insight into tech before my time :)
Oof, as someone currently fighting through some sort of sinus bug, I'm glad to hear you're doing better. Can I just say, that's a nifty desk even before the LEDs. Looking forward to the things you've described. Old programming languages sounds like a fun topic. Even though my first computer was an Apple //e and then a PC XT I am often surprised just how much I missed of what was going on in the 80s. The 70s I can understand, I was still a bit too much of a wee little kid then, but I was obsessed with the //e and then the PC XT in the 80s. Also, I understand.
Glad your better. Did not know about your background until now. I was a COBOL programmer years ago, around the time of Windows 286! Worked for a casino in Las Vegas writting software for the office and gambling functions. Also worked for a furniture company in Las Vegas where I modified COBOL code to include rack and bin warehousing to interface with office accounting, sales and cashier functions. I am retired now and living in Arkansas.
Glad you're back! Your channel is very refreshing to see compared to the usual in tech/linux youtube. Keep it up!
I really love your channel. I discovered it recently and its become as my favorite tech channel on youtube. Keep doing this great job, Veronica. Greetings from Brazil.
Thanks for the update, glad you are feeling better
Veronica, glad your back and healthy. Looking forward to new content.
I understand... and I'm glad you're feeling better. Looking forward to more of your content, whether above or below ground. :-)
Hey, nice to see you back! I had an infection too, probably XBB1.5 ("Kraken") which caused me to lose my voice almost completely and while it's pretty much back, it's not perfect and there's still dome harmonic distortion in it ;). Nice to see your work on the studio and other projects :) Music, musings and mutilations? Nice. I love your channel. Keri on!
You have built an original, fun and interesting channel, so it's nice seeing you are back. Of course, as time passes and more work is put on an activity it's only natural that you feel that a permanent space is necessary for it, or maybe better equipment, etc. It's the same for me with sports, for example. A small start is a win, many times
I'm glad to see you back Veronica, I missed your retro editing style.
Glad you are doing better! I think I am getting closer to getting my C64 running BTW.
The Basement space looks awesome Veronica. I can't wait to see what you do with it. I'm actually working on something over my garage right now for my content creation (if I can ever get it finished).
i like the opening cut of Veronica's chair % speedrun.
I understand; Great to see you back!
Good to see you again Veronica! I hope you are well.
Hope you’re family are doing well welcome back 🎉
Glad to see you back, and I hope you're feeling better.
Very appreciated update from the Linux Mom! 😊
I loved GEOS for my C 64! Used it exclusively before I left the Commodore ecosystem! Anyway, enjoy the basement set up!
Glad to hear you're feeling better! I can't wait to see your new "youtubery set" ;p Also, ST Voyager!
excited to have you back ! patiently waiting for what's next
So happy to see a new Veronica vid! Clap on, clap off. :=}
waiting for entire room tour once done! :) the gadgets, the apps, to the desk, chair and all nicknecks!
Somehow coincidence on that disease part and the "good antibiotics", i too got sick and tired lately. Btw nice basement "set"
Welcome back. Hope you, and your family, continue to feel better.
The subtitles at the start are amazing
Yay, retro computers! I can't wait!
As of the time of this comment, I noticed you have 56k subscribers to this KZread channel. Loving those dial-up vibes.

Probably Scorpion. "Think good thoughts." :)
During the Premiere you asked who is building what, and what was your first computer, or something like that. My first computer was a CoCo and BASIC was the love of my programming. This extended briefly to my Atari ST, but have not programmed since the early 90s. I have programmed COBOL for large companies in the 90s as part of my real job, then selling/repairing Apple computers, parts and peripherals for the past 25 years. I'd like to get out my CoCo and get back into BASIC programming, but I have to find her first... thanks for listening.
Glad to hear the family is healthy again!
I understand. And welcome back! My theory is that you've been away building your own awesome Linux distro. ;)
if we can make requests, I would love a COBOL tutorial, I'm curious how you can set up a local environment that could mimic the old/legacy mainframes and what compiler can be used? is it even possible (ie simple/painless) on widows?
Great to see you back! 🎉
Glad to see you back!
oh damn, I need to check my backups
love the rhymes. Dr. Suess style. "course, hoarse, of coarse"....
I love your channel!
I love your channel! I'm looking forward to more Linux lessons. :)
More doggo please. Glad you’re feeling better.
Glad to see you back.
Wow COBOL. My tech college degree, in 1989, was taught in COBOL. I did one small project at a job after I graduated only because I begged someone to do so. Never touched it again.
Happy to see you again!
Sorely missed welcome back
They're not just "damn" hashtags and chapters. Very useful and helpful for re-runs later.

Sometimes I don't feel like watching a long video but if there are chapters available I will still watch the "most interesting" parts. If there are more people who do this that means you could be getting more views because of them.
Welcome back!!

Ah, COBOL. I still remember using coding layout forms / sheets. Gotta’ get them columns right. 😂
Thanks, I love retro computers, programming languages in particular Quick Basic and Delphi aka qb64 and lazarus. Used to be my favourite pass time at one time.

Young people need to see this video because they think being a KZread influencer is all glamorous and parties. They do not see the many lines of COBOL in the background!

Hey everything is cooler with LEDs - even in Summer when it is hot. 😇😜🤨
Hell yeah, Solarized htop
Side note, am I the only one who sent a fax while watching this? Modern technology is amazing.
haha the 3d modeling of the office, classic
It's like getting a book, that no one reads any more, just to look at the pretty pictures. Haha. 😊
Hi Veronica, (Previous post got deleted because it conatained an internal link.) Loving your channel. About the 3:15 point, you put out a request for vintage software. How about RPG II (Report Generator Program) that IBM developed for its System/3/32/34/36 line of min-computers? If memory serves, IBM was looking for a terse, lightweight, business language to replace COBOL at the time. Imagine, if you can, COBOL and Assembler having a baby, and you're on the right track. Also, I'd be interested in your take on the Fish Shell as a replacement/augmentation for bash. Thanks. ~ tEP
Ooh! Cover Nevada COBOL!
PS: I understand.
