Where Does Europe End and Asia Begin?

Europe and Asia are considered separate continents, and yet they're connected by land, so where do we mark the boundary between the two continents? And how did we decide where to put them at all? In fact why are they even separate at all? What is even going on?! Someone help, reality is a lie!

We're trying to find categorisation that encompasses multiple factors (culture, tectonic plates, bodies of water, mountain ranges, biogeography) so it's always going to be messy if we keep doing that. I think it's more useful to make categorisations for each individual purpose. Also, for some things, the borders may be a bit fuzzy, it's not surprising if certain things near the border might have some elements of both of the zones they're between. There can also be larger categories with smaller subcategories. E.g. there's a certain amount of cultural commonality between various European countries, but you can also still divide those up further into regions within Europe. But some things might also be different than we categorise now; North Africa tends to have more cultural similarity to the Middle East and even to some extent Mediteranian Europe than it does to Sub-Saharan Africa.

I would say that this division is not really relevant in all context. It made sense for ancient Greeks. It also made sense to have division between Western Europeans and East Asians when the direct contact between the two was established. But for Russia, Turkey, countries near Caucasus etc. is simply pointless classification for the sake of it. It kind of reminds me of debates by Americans about "Was ancient Egypt Black or White civilization", while their definition of "Black" and "White" meant primarily "resembling Western African" and "resembling North-Western European" respectivelly.

That is thinking it from a Greek / Medieval time perioid, if it was today's technology, stuff like the internet would make it easier for these civilizations to know each other, tho actually getting there would still be a pain, even with planes, it would require hundreds of scales and months of travel, maybe civilizations here would develop teleportation and make it a reality much sooner than we would probably do here due to strict necessity, or I don't know. There are 5 officially recognized Kontinenty/continents (but even 4 are taken as good thanks to Afro-Eurasia) and 7 světadíly/continents (it even recognizes the 8 if you divide Astralia and Oceania). The lake was Marmara Sea. The two edges of the this lake collapsed. It united with Aegean and Black Sea. Black Sea was a lake as well. It turned into a sea after that. If Cyprus, Armenia, Georgia are more European than Asian ...then Egypt, Libya are more Middle-Eastern than African, all of Mediterranean is closer to one another rather than Greece being close to Scandinavia by virtue of being Europe or Maghreb (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia) being close to Sub Sharan Africa like Congo only because of being part of the African landmass or Lebanon being closer to Japan instead of Tunisia or Europe. All of these divisions are vague and must not instill emotions among people or dictate geo-politics...People should have an identity on shared values and not shared geography and other things. Greece and Scandinavia have a lot in common (not denying any of that) but Greece also has a lot in common culturally with Anatolia, Maghreb (especially Tunisia), Egypt ..pretty much all of Mediterranean has this cultural affinity for historical reasons or otherwise. A country is bound to have closer ties with those who are Geographically closer to it. And Greece was the center of Mediterranean culture, Hellenism was more widespread in near East all the way upto modern day Afghanistan instead of Scandinavia. The reason why Scandinavia and Greece are part of the same Continent while Greece and Egypt are not part of the same is simple... Europe's identity is built around Christendom & Racial basis (White Indo-Europeans), First world modern democracies and not on Roman empire or Greeko-Roman civilization or any vague Geographical idea.

@@mahmoodabbasi6120 I kinda agree, but you're forgetting that there is a reason if things are this way, it's history. A millennia and half years ago, you wouldn't had hesitated to call costal Northern Africans, costal middle East and Turkey "Europe". They all used to follow mostly the same tradition, faith, customs, laws and authority. Then history happened. For example Islam happened and suddenly a huge migration of traditions and new population came to middle East and northern Africa. History progressed and Europe dominated every single other continent, Russians desperately tried to be as other Europeans and so Europeanised western Russia (successfully if you ask me). Since Europe dictated the rest of the world thanks to its superiority in every single thing, when they drew the maps, being so different from non Europeans, they made Europe a continent and the centre of the world. If thing were east of Europe then it was Asia, if they were south they were Africa and if they were west then they were America. I mean, of course it isn't right to put everything eastern of Europe as one GIGANTIC single entity and call it "Asia", but at the time maps were drew, Europe could and did do as Europe wanted. After more than five centuries, I guess people got used to it.
