I would like to be a PA because at this point in my life I have the confidence to actually reach my dreams. I am 51 years young and finally believe in myself. I know I have alot to offer others and want to teach them about healthy living...I taught K- 3rd grade for 7 years, I believe at this jucture of my life, I want to be able to teach people how to live healthy, let them know there are competent healthcare providers who want to see them healthy and vibrant and have a better life via better health practices; hence, sharing my motto: "your health is your wealth".

I want to be a PA because I want to diversify medicine and help make Black and POC feel more comfortable when in a space where their life and health is in the care of someone other than themselves. I’m at that awkward stage of just graduating from college (class of Fall 2020!!) and I just got hired as a medical scribe. I’m looking for a weekend job that may be more qualified for patient care and going through the tasks of listing schools to apply to next cycle.

Thanks for answering my question! And you pronounced my name correctly! I want to be a P.A due to the under representation of African Americans in the medical field. Many African Americans also get misdiagnosed due to skin conditions looking differently on them because of this I hope to do Dermatology. I am currently a junior in undergrad!

I want to be a PA to help reduce health disparities in underserved and minority communities of California. My desire is to work in either primary care or neurology. I was accepted into a PA program and I am currently waiting to start in June.

Currently, I am a sophomore, studying Biology at Winston Salem State University. My interest in being a PA stems from being able to better close disparities. With lateral mobility, a PA can pretty much work in any specialty, filling whatever need there is in a community for less cost than it would be to hire an additional physician. With medicine as a whole, so many African Americans do not receive the best medical care. To be able to do my part in fixing this disparity within my community, while practicing medicine(which I love), is simply a win!!

Hi Adanna! Thank you for making videos like these, we really appreciate them. I’m a second-year student and am so hopeful to become a PA in a few years. Right now on my journey, I’m finishing up pre-recs and am beginning my PCE hours (CNA this winter and summer; scribe next summer)! I’ve always loved science classes but never really knew what I wanted to do until I got to college. After taking a health science seminar where health care professionals came in and spoke, I was hooked. In every step towards PA school I get more excited (i.e. harder science classes, working w/patients, and shadowing PAs). I was just planning on scheduling a date to take my GRE so this would be soooo helpful! Keep doing you :)

I want to be a PA in anywhere I’m needed. Working in an urgent care in a small town made me realize how underserved communities are in California and how some people do not go to a medical facility due not having one available in their region. I’m currently in my last semester of undergrad and currently have around 600hrs of PCE as a MA. I wish to get around 2000 more in my gap year and I will also be taking prereqs in a CC near me

I want to be a PA because I want to have the opportunity to educate my patients. I feel like my role as a PA would allow me to build relationships and trust with patients along with having the time to educate them. I feel like patient education is detrimental in overall health and the prevention of further health issues. I have seen the impact that a lack of patient education has while working as a CNA at my local hospital. I also love that the PA role utilizes teamwork. I think that teamwork and communication across the healthcare team is also a vital aspect of healthcare. I am currently a senior in undergrad and working on preparing for my GRE. I ascribe to the tenets of we are born to be and do certain things/experiences. After being homeless, a closed head injury, a 10 + year career as a certified occupational therapy asst. and the caregiver to both my parents for several years has positioned me to understand and advocate for the underserved populations. My 30-year dream of becoming a PA is closer to my April 2021 application to a program. I want to be a PA because I want to be able to help communities of color receive the health care they deserve by being the most culturally competent provider I can be. As a young Latina with experience as a medical assistant and medical interpreter, I’ve witnessed what it’s like for patients to have to depend on someone to be their voice. Being a bilingual PA means that I will be able to give more patients a voice and truly care for a population that is often underserved and overlooked. I applied to various PA schools this past cycle but unfortunately did not receive any acceptances. My plan is to apply again in April. In the meantime I am working full time and taking classes at my local community college. I am in the process of getting my EMT certification and will switch positions this summer.
