Adanna, I just wanted to say thank you. About 18 months ago I had my Skype meeting with you and you encouraged me to knock out A&P 1&2, biochem, and microbiology online while finishing my time in the Coast Guard. I've been studying, volunteering, shadowing, working and navigating CASPA since then and I was accepted to my top choice program a week ago. You're a blessing to the pre-PA community. Thanks for all that you do 🙏

@@VitaHydra Thank you so much for your response! Portage looks great. So far I had only looked into Univ of New England’s science prerequisite courses they offer (similar concept where you enroll & start easily & quickly) but they’re twice the price as portage! I have to do all the same prerequisites you listed. What was the experience like for you? How long did it take for all four courses? Also how far out of undergrad/taking any science classes are you? I’ve not taken science classes in YEARS so I’m a little nervous and also not sure if I should try and knock all of them out in a row so I can try and apply for next school year for PA schools. I guess it depends how long each course takes? Thank you so much for your help thus far! 🙏🏼

@@olivias4895 I graduated in 2014 and hadn't taken any science courses since then. I did A&P 1 and microbiology in about three months and a&p 2 and biochem in about the same. To be fair my life outside of work almost completely revolved around these classes to get them done right but the material is solid and the instructors are supportive. Definitely make flashcards with Anki to engage active recall and hammer-in all the information. You can definitely apply by next year if you put your mind to it! Just remember you also have to write a good personal statement , maybe pass the GRE depending on the school, and don't forget the patient care experience and volunteering too. It's totally doable though, just make a plan with deadlines an execute it! You've got this 💪

Thank you so much for this ! I am planning to apply to PA school... But I was so concerned in regards to the financial aspect. There's only one school near me, and of course if I get into that one then I will be able to live with my parents which will help financially. But if I get accepted to one outside of my area, I'm very concerned about finances and living arrangements. This video helped a lot. Thank you 💓

Thanks for the advice I wish students had more options than loans. I took out some loans for undergrad. I told myself I wouldn’t do that again for PA school since I’m going to have no financial help from my family like I did for undergrad. So I’m saving as much money as I can for PA school and hopefully I’ll get scholarships but I refuse to take out $30k in loans. If some ppl are like me who have no support but don’t want to go into massive amounts of debts 3 PA schools have part time options where students can work AND go to school!

Hi Adanna, As always thank you so much for your videos and knowledge. I wanted to ask what options are available for individuals with bad credit because I know that can make loans tricky. Are schools able to work with you on that aspect as well? Also can you please do a video on scholarships for PA schools as well?

I urge PA students to move back in with parents or grandparents if possible. If not live with multiple roommates in your cohort if that’s your only option. You won’t have a life anyway. Luckily I saved $20,000 prior and my husband covers the bills while I take out the bare minimum in loans which is still going to be around 60k for instate tuition 😓.

Unfortunately, that isn't an option for many people in their 30s and 40s who are trying to go to PA school. I live with my boyfriend, but he has a chronic illness and cannot financially support both of us.

Hello Adana, thanks for your informative videos about the profession. I am Prince from Ghana(west Africa), a PA student in my second year. It is a four year program over here, with the first three years being more academic and 6-8 weeks of clinical rotations each year. The fourth year Is fully clinical(clerkship). We are trained in the medical model, the difference between us (Ghanaian PAs) & the MDs is that; they do surgery we don't. We assist and stitch. I asked a question in one of your videos, but had no reply. Please do not ignore it this time. I wanted to know if there's a chance for a foreign trained PA to work in the US. Or better still, take some short courses to meet the US standard.

Yes boss I’m also from Gh. It all depends on your acceptance after applying. You should meet all the prerequisites and you should know the cost in pA sch is not an icing on a cake. Even student loans becomes an issue not to discourage you but yes there’s a chance in getting into pA sch so apply.

Personally I’m planning to do one travel contract per semester to pay for school which will range from $20,000-$25,0000 per 13 week contract so I will be working 3 months on and 3 months off back and forward like that. So hope that strategy works out for me so I don’t have to take any student loans out
