Where did Prince Philip get the engagement ring he gave to Elizabeth? At the time of his engagement to Princess Elizabeth, Philip, the former Prince of Greece and Denmark was virtually broke and without a homeland from which his father had been exiled with no way to return. Nevertheless, Philip gave Elizabeth a beautiful engagement ring, which she wore until the very end. Philip's mother, Princess Alice, was the great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, so after escaping from Greece, she still had some family heirlooms and jewellery. When Philip decided to marry the future Queen of England in 1947, Alice gave him one of her personal diadems. It was from her that the engagement ring was made. The ring had a 3 carat diamond solitaire framed on each side by five smaller diamonds set in platinum. The remaining diamonds from the tiara were Philip used to create a wedding gift for his bride - a wide bracelet.

Not just Queen victoria but king Christian IX of Denmark is also their common ancestor. King George VI and prince philip were great grand sons of king Christian IX of Denmark. King Christian IX of Denmark daughter Queen Alexandra was consort of Edward VII of UK and great grand mother of Queen Elizabeth II and king Christian IX of Denmark son king George I of greece is grand father of prince philip

She spent crazy amounts of money and died with massive debt. She didn't like Philip and sabotaged his relationship with Charles. She clung to Elizabeth like a barneckle. She admitted to be not the nice person people thought she was.

Yes. Even though Harry is being a turd the way he carries himself and his bone structure resembles Prince Philip. And of course William is wonderful like his grandpa.

Love these two. Their marriage wasn’t perfect like most marriages but I can tell that they were truly devoted to each other and their love endured till the end. What a beautiful example for all of us who are married. Stay together through thick and thin.

@bernadettekavanagh9984 it is possible. The queen mother didn't want it to marry Bernie. She denied a few times. I don't know who she wanted it to marry. Some said it was David, Edward VIII. He had a way with women. None of them were a catch, IMHO. I am happy as a commoner.

Queen Elisabeth adored him from the time she was thirteen years old and they wrote to each other and he often visited the family. The queen mother didn’t think he was good enough for her daughter but the queen mother also was a snob.

Phillip was a TRUE renaissance man. He was thriving in the Royal Navy, then plunged himself into numerous projects throughout his service. He retired an honorable and authentic man, to himself for those last years. Stoic and steadfast until the end.

I do wish your commentary would acknowledge that there is no Queen of England but the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. The last Queen of England was Elizabth the first who died in 1603. Since then until with the Union of the Crowns the monarch was king/queen of both England and Scotland.

They were cash poor. Their extended family grudgingly supported them. It must have been so weird to be surrounded by rich relatives, living in palaces, but personally extremely poor and living off them. Philip never had his own bedroom until he married Elizabeth. She was madly in love with him and would not listen to her father, who wanted her to wait a few years.
