Doug Douds managed in this short video to capture the essence of this hallowed ground. This was a tour de force of concision that would make Lincoln himself proud.

I’ve just watched this from the UK, may I say this is a brilliant video. I was enthralled from the outset!
Not long after awakening this morning, when checking the calendar for today's date, was there a moment when November 19th caused me to pause. Having recognized it was the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, I wondered just how many Americans would follow in my realization. Doug Douds has offered a beautiful memorial to this day and what it stands for, but I must also acknowledge the breathtaking comments in response to this video by those that I am honored to share in this moment of genuine humanity. Thank you all, and stay safe.
The fact that there's trees still standing that were there at the battle is awesome
Doug Douds you are amazing thank you!
Just back from the Army War College where I had the honor of hearing Col. Douds (USMC Ret) speak on time and its use in strategy. He is among the most captivating lecturers I have witnessed. Later in the week, we would take a staff ride at Gettysburg only to drive past Col. Douds house situated serenely overlooking a battlefield. This man clearly lives his passion and we are the better for learning from his collective expertise.
Outstanding! Should be played in every school in America!! 5/5!!
What a narrative. A great storyteller. He had me captivated.
I think Doug might have given Lincoln a run for his money with his oratory skills! Impressive, informative, and much enjoyed.
What an awesome narrative. Thank you, you made it come alive.
A wonderful video that captures the spirit of that day
This man has infectious energy. Great Job Sir.
Bravo, Mr. Douds. What an excellent summary of Lincoln's speech. Very inspiring.
“…Government of, by and for the people. If it doesn’t stay here... “. and the sun shines upon him. And I got chills.
Well done Marine! Spoken with excellent narrative. This "Doc" (4th Marines) is very envious of your responsibility. To be able to convey the true message of that location, that was done in only 2 minutes, shows you to be a Marine that does their responsibility proud. Take care, Be Safe, an Semper Fi!
In every way that I could possibly think of - this was an outstanding video... Really needs to be shared with the generation of today...
Best summation of the address i have seen. He nails it.
Excellent. Thank you for explaining, and reminding us who we aspire to be. Our work in progress.
That was Awesome!! You gave me goosebumps! Very enjoyable listening to you! Thank you!! 👏👏👏
Been there a hundred times - always evocative - good place to just sit and meditate.
What a fantastic video - not only the explanation of how the cemetery came to be, the story of it. But the way he reminds us of how Lincoln in the midst of the war told us what it is to be American. I was moved by Doug's story today. Thank you.
If I would of only knew he was there. I would of came an watched it in person. Great video.
Great presentation. Was recently as Gettysburg, but didnt get a chance to go on the cemetery, definitely gonna have to the next time.
Doug Douds did a beautiful job of putting the core values of this country in a cemetery tour that would move anyone who loves this country. At a time of division and hatred when Americans are turning on each other for no valid reason everyone needed to be reminded of these values. Thank you Doug.🇺🇸🆓
That was extremely well presented, fantastic!!!
I'm glad to finally see a video devoted to your beautiful parsing of the Address, Doug! Thank you!
Amazing video and great commentary on the documents that shaped our nation!
Just discovered this awesome channel and this phenomenal video. Better late than never.
Wow. This gave me chills. You sir… did an outstanding job with this video.
Well done Sir!! Thank you. Mark from Milwaukee.
This video is amazing, hope this gentleman makes more videos
Another fantastic lecture by Doug Douds! One of my War College cohort instructors, Doug had and has an amazing ability to draw the learner in and embrace what he has to teach. Anyone who hears him speak will recognize a true American patriot and I am proud to have served with him and call him a friend. Well done! Makes me want to visit those hallowed grounds once again...
This was probably the greatest thing that I have ever seen on KZread...great job sir...wonderful job!
WOW!! If we could travel back to November 19, 1863…I’d cast MY vote for Mr. Douds to deliver the ONLY speech that would have been necessary!! Bravo sir!! Bravo!! Mesmerized I was and clinging to your every word!!!
This is incredible!!! Very inspirational!!! Thank you!
The address is a remarkable document - while certainly a union speech - at no point does he mention north or south or ideologies - he makes it an AMERICAN speech - in the midst of war - REMARKABLE.
Wow, great job. This is the way history deserves to be told. More videos like this, please!
That lecture was wonderful! Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!
Remarkable, Doug. Thank you for sharing.

I’d dare say, THE best!!👍🏻
Doug, your words were motivating and inspirational. You summarized this great event perfectly and I agree that these documents you cited show us as we want to be, not always as we are.
These are stunningly powerful comments and an excellent summation of these events. Congratulations Mr. Douds and thank you!
Thank you Doug that was awesome .
Thank you. Great presentation based upon historical facts.
Today I didn't expect to be brought to tears by a KZread video. Yet, here I sit, in awe of the greatness of Lincoln and the values he espoused. In awe of the greatest sacrifice given by so many to preserve us a nation. Thank you for making and sharing this video.
Great tour, I'm glad that I was able to visit the cemetery last year. Thank you Doug.
Totally relevant - always inspiring

Awesome or should I say awe struck. Great job!
Beautifully made video!
Timeless words that are just as true and just today.
Great job. Thank you so much
Lincoln was so fast with the speech that only one picture was taken of it and it is of him going back to his seat. He said; " That speech'll never scour," He thought it was bad.
That was…wow! Outstanding job Doug. Thank you for this!
Great presentation.
FDR's Four Freedom's and MLK are brilliant additions!!! Doug Douds is an effing Genius!!! We have to become what Lincoln wants us to be - or coming down from the trees and becoming humans was a wrong turn on the pathway of evolution. We have to realize our potential for human flourishing by developing egalitarian and democratic institutions in the economy, kinsystem, state, and culture. There will still be necessary hierarchies, (adults over children, technical expertise in div of lab) but they will be transparent, democratically accountable, and consciously as few as are genuinely necessary for some demonstrable social good. it is also the only way to humanely navigate the coming climate change catastrophe. We are in for some genuinely rough times. Our best hope is some kind of benevolent military bonapartism. I wish it was the working class in workplace councils, neighborhood councils and control over the traditional state. But, I think it will be the military that ends up stepping in to the keep the far-right from seizing power.
More with Doug Douds and Gary Gallagher please and thank you!
This was great! Really enjoyed this video. We went to Gettysburg over a year ago. We walked this cemetery. TFS!
Superb telling
Very well said…..
Fantastic video. I was there (again) last July. I'm sure I walked right by this spot and never knew it....
Outstanding presentation .
Nice comment on the "sum total" of who we are. I'll look those up again--pretty familiar with three of the five
Wow!
Superb
Wow. 👏👏👏👏
Very informative and well explained. Very good indeed, thank you.
Listen carefully to him at 12:04. "It starts with enduring values and beliefs". This is the nucleus of the political problems today. We used to be a unified nation sharing the same values. Now we have become a house divided, with those of my stripe looking to the founding documents for our values, and others who are trying to tear it all down and fundamentally change America. I sincerely hope that because you are here watching this video you stand with me against the rise of socialist tyranny. The men who died over 150 years ago to preserve our union are owed so much from us even now. I will preserve the memory of their sacrifice and hold this union dear.
This man says a beautiful thing at about 12:18
Thank you! Great presentation. You yourself are an awesome speaker. Your energy amplifies the words, and as far as time travel you take us back to 1863. Thank you
Not bad, Doug. Not bad at all!
Words so fitting in this the second year of the Great Pandemic as we split apart once again.
Great Documentary but not enough info on "where exactly did Lincoln stand or the platform site for this Immortal Speech! Find it hard to believe there is such confusion, uncertainty or lack of a Memorial Marker for such a momentous event!
What cemetery is that shown at 2:02 minutes in?
truly less can be more
E eu vou. Mora aonde ?
He should have added that after the battle there were also many dead horse corpses. The stench must have been awful!
Jesus Christmas.... everything but the location of the address
Unfortunately you didn’t answer the question, where was he when he gave the speech.
Tem muita gente querendo me mata aí tem medo
Nice EGA!
