I have come to the conclusion that getting old seriously sucks. Don’t let anyone tell you different, there lying. Let’s face it.. how some of these gorgeous talented young guys with more hair than most women..who had everything in ACCESS from drugs, women, sex and money... rock Gods.. (don’t come for me) they were larger than life and you either wanted to be with them or be like them. It was a huge scene and there is always a new young band just waiting to come right up behind them. The harder living rock stars look worse faster than most but I get it! I’d be depressed to! Mike Slaughter, Jani Lane and Vince Neil, Tom Kiefer and Axl Rose all fell apart! The price of selling your soul to the devil.. I use to say .. Farrah Fawcett needs to take down her famous huge poster of her in the red bathing suit down from the middle of her living room. Not because of vanity but looking at that everyday as you age is not a healthy reality.. depression is inevitable.. I’m a realist ... those days are nice to visit but you don’t want to live in it, surround yourself in days gone by..sorry if you disagree but it’s brutal!

Had a great time, every time. Kinda funny being in a venue with people my age feeling young again. And Skid Row is playing again this year.

I moved to a tiny little town in Southern New Mexico in 1985. Before that I lived in San Diego CA. Right next door to the epicenter of all these bands. Oh YES I was a fan. Hige Metal Head. I used to get asked why I would ever go from paradise to the high desert. In California I was one in millions. In New Mexico I stood out and the whole Metal scene meant more. I tried moving back to San Diego, but it jist wasnt for me anymore. Still rocking the high desert. Still a guitarist and Still a Metal Head. Greatest decade of my life.

Because they were no longer on MTV or the radio by then, that's why. In the early 2000s, Anthrax was considered a bad word, as 9/11 had just happened and there was a big scare about the anthrax virus being sent in the mail in powder form. The band temporarily had to change their name to Anthrax (The Band) because yes--they still had a fan base, and they wanted to appear more sensitive and respectful so they could keep their listeners.

I'd say both are in decline. Music and the business of music are SO much different now. Grunge had alot of key players die off. Kurt Cobain, obviously. Layne Staley. Chris Cornell. Andrew Wood earlier on in the movement. Now you have great bands like Foo Fighters and an older Pearl Jam puts out good music still. I don't really see where you think glam or metal is thriving? Maybe because that's your music of choice? Which is fine. I wouldn't say it's thriving by any stretch. I'm one of the people who liked both. I've seen Pearl Jam. Foo Fighters 4 times. Saw Soundgarden way, way, way back in the day because I'm old. Ha. Ha. Kinda old. I also saw Dokken and the Lynch Mob because I always liked George Lynch and appreciated his epic guitar playing. Saw great bands like Tesla. Queensryche. Even Megadeth because I appreciate Dave Mustaine.

@@sdc6447 I think based on observation bro. GnR when they put up a show it's still the same as the 80s I mean the magnitude of people watching despite Axle's diminishing vocal range still the crowd flocked. Same with Bon Jovi and EVH b4 he died. I mean in comparison there is a big difference maybe probably the content and the message of the song. 80 Glam rock is more of good time while grunge is morbid. But both has it's share of success but as to the magnitude of people patronizing 80s glam and metal is must greater than 90s grunge. Just an opinion bro. Nothing to argue about. For a long time, I enjoyed the hard rock of the '80s and still do. Even though the music is more important than image, I could understand the long hair being part of the appeal. The bands at the time looked cool that way, and the look was appealing for being different. It's unusual and depressing the amount of artists from these bands who ended up cutting their hair, and what's sad is, the bands after grunge rarely grew their hair out (Korn being a notable exception). And so many of the post-grunge, nu metal and emo groups, just weren't as good. It's not that every male rock artist has to have their hair long, but it would've been cool if a good number of them had chosen to. When I first saw the then-current clips of the bands in this episode, and seeing how many of them had cut their hair, it makes me glad that I chose to keep mine long (which I didn't grow out ironically until 1997). The look was so cool back then, and it would be nice if more guys had it today.

Hair? I could care less.....and I did have long hair in the '80s, but not because of hair bands. Van Halen, Zeppelin, Pat Travers....and then Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer inspired us. They didn't use hair spray. Also, a lot of grunge bands had long hair too. Almost all of them. The glam bands like Poison, etc., just brought it to a weird poseur level. I could never get into that look, especially when that Girlschool band went all frilly. Terrible band anyway. I say grow your hair how you like or keep it short.

I love stryper they were one of the first power metal bands and actually a lot heavier them there counterparts there guitar work was shredding and killer vocals there were a seriously talented band what people don't get about stryper is it's not like they were playing in the Christian music scene they were playing in the straight 80s metal scene with wasp and priest you have to be a great fucking band to get a 80s metal head to listen about Jesus I know I was one it was 10 times harder for them because of there Christian faith then it was for the other bands stryper was seriously good 👍 and I love the fact nothing made them give up on there faith

I agree. Stryper had a great impact in their day, and although they weren't the first Christian metal act (Trouble were one name that pre-dated them), there were a ton of bands like them that came after, such as Barren Cross, Bride, Deliverance and Tourniquet to name a few. And all of those groups showed that Christian subject matter in music is not a silly thing and can be well-executed as much as any secular topic.

I was in a pretty average band that supported stryper in Brisbane, Australia. I really liked stryper, a was relieved to find out they were really nice guys. They let us use their hospitality suite, talked to us… they also were great in concert. They sure wore a lot of make up though.
