2023 Update: Poison just wrapped up a successful North American tour with Motley Crue and Def Leppard. Bret Michaels toured South America with his solo band in 2015 and when he played in my country (Perú) the venue was as full as a tuna fish can. In this reportage Poison is the only band that is proud of its origins and that shows in their present: they are the real deal and people love that.

I've been looking back over billboard charts from 1980 till now, and one thing I've noticed, that was even true as recently as 1998/1999, Billboard was a reflection of what EVERYONE listened to. There was pop, rock, soft rock, r&B, adult contemporary.... the teenybopper pop was more considered "kids stuff". Nowadays, it seems like record companies and billboard are paying attention EXCLUSIVELY to what kids are listening to. This glut of "sound cloud rap" and the dismal "trying too hard to seem deep", plus this brutal onslaught of EDM is what young teenagers are listening to, leaving those of us in mid to late 30's and older stuck listening to what we grew up on, since nothing for us gets any attention anymore. I have to dig through Spotify to find new artists, and it's WORK.... trying to wade through the garbage is a real chore.

Joe Elliot says the reason grunge happened is because too many glam metal bands sounded the same. This is actually what's happening now with commercial pop and rap, even worse than what happened with the hair metal bands. So when is all this going to crash? When is the bubble going to burst?

Tom Keifer was/is a fantastic vocalist. I wasn't into Cinderella, there are a few songs I really love, *because* of Tom. With the right songs, IMO, his voice could've gone further than the 80s. I know he's had major issues with his vocal chords, but he's overcome them, thankfully! RIP Robbin Crosbie... Horrible way to die😢💔

Well, they did try to come back in 2000's. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine etc sound heavy metal but with less hair. Unfortunately they are short-lived. The problem with 80's hair metal is the lyrics are too shallow. The music is fun but lyrically it's pop with guitar distortion as sugar coat.

Grunge did pave the way for the post grunge stuff that is still going on today. Creed were huge in the late 90's, Nickleback, Stone Sour, Alterbridge are all from the same cloth of grunge. Hair metal will never be seen as serious as alternative.
