I like to do bulk buys. I work the estate sales. I am on many email lists for the estate companies. I get the emails for each new sale. I look at all the pics they post. I am looking for a sale that has a LOT of items of what I want. The last day of the sale in the afternoon is when items start getting discounted, I go to see what's left. Sometimes there will still be a lot left of the clothing/shoes/accessories. I will then tell them I will take it all. I will sort through it all later. The per piece cost doing this is very low. I have found great items. Last sale I went to was a doll maker's estate sale. Lots of items left, some brand new. One of the workers called the owner and said "Darci is here", I waited until she got there. Gave me a price of $200.00 on what was left in the craft room. There was a lot. One item I will list for $150.00. When working the sales, get to know the people who work there, the owners, etc. Try not to talk them down too much on the price, if you do, they get insulted and will not as much with you.

How do you get into estate sales? I live in Florida and there are a ton of estate sales here, but I have no idea how to get that info. Is there a special site where we can sign up? Or one where we can find out where they are?

Hi Lynn! That is a great tip. I am on NextDoor because of my rent house business. I think your idea would really work in my area. I think it would be important to pay donors something, like 25 cents each for each pair of jeans and 10cents for each shirt, top, or skirt. People would sell you trashbags and trashbags full of clothes. It's a project worth throwing a $100 at and see what happens.

I source differently each weekend, I sell used and new clothes.. goodwill in my area puts out there new color of the week or 50% every Sunday and they only put out items with that color tag on Sunday so when they are gone they are gone, Sunday’s I average 9-10 goodwills.. Monday I retail arbitrage, I have full time job as a chef and list about 10-15 items a day my new goal is 25-50 items a day

Yes Mercari is a good platform for beginners. I was intimidated by Ebay so i went with Mercari. I now list with confidence. My niche is jewelry. The best way i think to learn a category is to touch, examine and research. Repeat this step everyday. I started my journey identifying metals, understanding the metalsmithing design and names of all the jewelry designers. In order to properly describe, list and value the item, what other way then to become a self taught jewelry appraiser . It will take time but eventually i will be an expert.

Yes, it was sad realizing I didn’t to put in the hustle to go to a dangerous downtown urban area to source books. Y myself. Books are a natural for me. But I knew there are Soo many ways to make money selling online I did not get discouraged for long, especially after watching a few of Chris’s videos. Very motivating. But I’ve also done well with vintage furnishings sourced at a local Salvation Army. The online platform Chairish will arrange shipping, which buyer pays, all I do is load photos and description of item and they send various couriers or movers right to my place and load it up and handle all packing. Sadly their commission is 30% but I’ve still done very well with large items because I have a good eye from being in the design industry and reading magazines for Years. Not sure if I will be keeping my Amazon FBA account. Need to join the group and see what I might do with both eBay and Amazon. Thanks Chris!

If you have a cell phone you will get ALOT of answers to where get your inventory ( Ebay, Mercari, poshmark, Online Auctions, offer up, 5miles, Marketplace, etc....we could go on and on..), you have to do your research and see what is good for you. Some people, go to Goodwill, Garage Sales, Thrift Stores, FLEA MARKETS, ETC..... Me in particular, Flea Markets n Garage Sales! I do not go in the mornings to garage sales I stay away in the mornings, i after 3pm....THATS JUST ME, I've done that almost for close to 10years 😉. Just do your research! I can’t stand low-ball offers. I price everything competitively. So, when someone offer 40-50% under the list price, it really pisses me off. Sometimes they justify it by claiming “I’m” charging too much for shipping, when in fact, I use calculated shipping. Thus, shipping is the going commercial rate. If someone offer 20% (or 30%), depending on the item, I have no issues and, usually, accept the offer. But, anymore, I don’t allow offer when listing.

  • @kakashimoto9916

Same. 20% off my bin price is the cutoff, any offer from a buyer beyond that gets declined immediately. Terapeak has helped me determine the average price of items and I for the most sell my items at the average price which is fair and good buyers recognize that, often buying my items at bin rather than sending me a lower offer. Buyers who know their stuff know a good deal when they see one. Key words "know their stuff", i.e. have used Ebay for a while and know to how use completed/sold items to determine the average sold price on products.

A Federal EIN is NOT necessary to resell. Such a thing is only required in specific instances. Creating a business entity is also not a requirement, and may not be a great idea for some (perhaps even many) who are just starting. Even a single owner LLC, for instance, if taxed as a disregarded entity, will file under their own SSN and would only need an EIN in certain instances (like if and when they hire employees). Anyone who thinks that they are at a point where they actually need to consider creating a formal business entity need to check with a CPA or business attorney first.

So, setting up the Company and getting the EIN number and the sales tax certificate..... The key part here is "setting up a company".... doesn't this cost a little money? And it needs to be done correctly so personal assets are protected from any issues that may arise from the business. Do you have recommendations for getting this initial part of the process started? Then.. once everything is set up.... because we are not paying sales tax upon purchasing items for resale, at some point sales tax does need to be charged. Ebay takes care of this, do most or all of the other online platforms do the same?
