Check your transmission fluid , I have got trans safe mode for low battery or alternator, I hate to say this but most of the time it's a selenoid in the transmission that need replacement

Gear selector is a Plastik lever inside a gearbox. By bmw costet 20-30€.

You'll need a scan tool like I have. The BMII will scan transmission codes. You'll also need the adapter to plug into the round port under the hood to connect to the transmission module. Scan and see what the module says is wrong. Your transmission may be done. If you're really lucky you might just be low on fluid or have a restricted filter.

My e38 stuck in a 5 gear and reverse is working fine, got a transmission failsafe prog fault, but when i turn off engine and start again fault disappears and comes back when i push accelerator. Any issues?

Yes, sir. I have another e38 video after this one. I was able to jack up the rear of the car, and jack up the axle to make it as parallel with the ground as possible. I then used a pry tool against the shaft with the exhaust as a fulcrum and she popped right back in. Been working fine ever since. I've put hundreds of miles on it since then.

I have a e430 4matic with the SAME EXACT issue, except mine is in the front. I ordered both new axles for the front. Hopefully this will fix my problem.

Yes it did actually, once both were installed it went back to driving beautifully. It took a lot of research and diagnosing everything step by step because my end all t h ought was trans of course but I definitely know for future now too.

HEY my car just stopped in traffic and has the same exact problem with the gear how did you fix it?

@@legendvlogs5979 check the axle shafts in the back where they meet the differential. If your car ginds while shifting into park while the engine is running and you can push the car while it's in park and it won't move in any other gear under it's own power, one of the axle shafts popped out. Simply climb underneath and figure out which one popped out and simply push it back in. Rotate the shaft via the hub while pressing inward (I used a pry bar against the exhaust while rotating the hub with my other hand until it clicked back in place). That should do her.

hey, i have an e38 730i, i can change the gears, i have checked under the car, everything seems to be right, but the car wont move when i put it in drive or reverse, the wheels dont spin at all, i can still rev the car.. do you happen to know what the problem is?

Does it grind when shifting into Park with the engine running AND can you push the car around while it's in Park. If so, you have the same problem I did and must re-insert one of the axle shafts. If the car stays stationary in Park AND does not grind when shifting into Park with engine running, you are either low on fluid and must refill it to the proper level OR the transmission has failed.

@@HollywoodHornet everything works as it should, it can shift in to all gears, no grinding. when i put the car in drive, it only revs when i press the gas pedal... not really sure, axle shaft seems to be ok, might be a failure in transmission.. and i cant even fill the transmission with fluid because its cold and wont warm up, the engine still varms up tho

@@paulius2898 If you're certain the car can't be rolled around while in Park then you have a transmission problem. The dash won't indicate a transmission issue. You'll have to plug a scan tool, like the BMII I use, into the round diagnostic port located under the hood. All other modules that are not the ECU can only be scanned from under the hood on e38.

so what was the problem with it?

@@videotearoff4933 limp mode /safe mode means there is something detecting something wrong . And not letting you drive it so you damage whatever is wrong even more . Sometimes it could be something little as low transmission fluid . Or selenoid in the transmission
