I'm a Mexican(but raised in VA) that sounds like a semi-country white girl and even though I knew a lot of Spanish words, I was so scared to pronounce them and bc of that, I was REALLY bad at speaking in Spanish despite understanding it. So anyway, I pay for the duolingo app now and do a TON of the speaking exercises and now I can actually speak spanish properly. I've noticed with both beatboxing and Spanish that the longer I go without doing it, the harder it becomes bc the muscles that are used weaken. I make myself speak out loud in Spanish every day so I don't lose my rolling Rs and other abilities😅

It can be scary to practice spanish with native speakers for this reason. But now that I have found the courage to try it typically I find people aren’t this judgmental. It has more to do with people on a individual basis. Some people will be judgmental because that’s just in their nature. But it’s better to focus on the positive interactions you have and keep trying.😁

Lmao this is literally my life. 😆 I am Hispanic, born in Chile, but I was adopted and grew up in the United States..... this happens to me all the time. 🙇🏻‍♀️ I know some Spanish, though I speak and write it better than I can listen and understand it. Even the other day, I had a small conversation in Spanish with one of the cleaning ladies at my work who's Peruvian (I told her before why I don't speak fluently)... but then when I saw her later in the day, she started speaking really fast as if I could understand, but I didn't know half of what she said. I could only pick up words here and there. People always just start speaking Spanish to me, because they can tell I'm Latina but don't realize my background. I try to learn, but it's hard when there's no way to have consistent conversations with someone to practice. Definitely frustrating, but I'm a proud Chilena regardless. 🤷🏻‍♀️🇨🇱
