When you Spook Turkeys, What next?

We've all done it and we will do it again eventually.
We've all spooked turkeys.
But what do you do when you know the turkeys have
seen you and either flown or walked off in the other direction?
Here's what I do, and it's worked great sometimes for me!

Matt your instructional videos are very well done. 1st hand knowledge is the best. Your videos remind me of Ray Eye’s videos I learned on years ago .

Lots of turkey hunters learned from Ray Eye.. I'm sure Dale would agree. Dale is great for all of us turkey heads and appreciate all he brings to the table for us when we can't be out there experiencing it for ourselves. Eye could hoot from his throat so well that gobblers didn't have a choice.. they had to shock respond!

Hey Matt, thanks for the good info...unfortunately bumped them off a few times. Only a few years in to turkey hunting by myself so definitely still learning. Vermont opens May 1st but we've already seen lots of strutting and breeding this year. What's the best way to hunt the "post rut" phase as it seems our season will be late again this year?

Great advice. I’ve killed two birds that were busted from their hens by trucks (one was me) in the same place they were spooked. One about 30 minutes later and the other was 2-3 hours later.

I shot the super magnum off one morning in the woods and missed. I had a gobbler and hens working right after flying down. Im right handed. I tried to get turned and the shot was a ways in there. I just missed. Turkeys ran and flew off. I waited 5 minutes. I started soft yelping. And shut up. Here comes 3 gobblers to me. They came in silent from my right and crossed in to my front.I shot the big boy in the rear. The other two jumped on him when he went down. Pretty cool.

Hey where are you in Virginia?I am in Henry county. I am new to turkey hunting, been 3 times this spring and the Lord has not blessed me with one yet. I messed one of the hunts up I was running and gunning and I had a turkey gobble a long ways off really was not sure I heard a gobble so I froze then in just a little bit gobble again a lot closer well I tried to hurry up and set up my decoy then sit down.I`m sure I took too long and he spotted me. Never heard another gobble for about 45 minutes so I got up and moved.

I killed a tom this morning 30 minutes after calling in and missing a shot on another gobbler(clean miss). Definitely pays to keep at it. It's not like it can get any worse after spooking a turkey! Except for maybe spooking a second 😅

Calling that much at a spooked turkey is a good way to not hear that turkey for the rest of the morning

Mr. Dale, does a gobbler call have any value? If so what situation would one be used. I'm a Nebraska hunter - that will use a full strut decoy early season.

It sure can ! It’s deep in my bag of tricks and a little dusty but I will pull it out when the time is right! I’ve had success with “some” hung up gobblers doing a series of cutting and clucking with one double gobble from the tube and sat quietly after that. it is my last ditch effort.. Sometimes it works !!
