as the youngest sibling i felt the difference my mom made between me and my older sister and it was something i couldn't control and my sister also grew resentment towards me which i always felt sad about, i was young like 8 and sometimes she wouldn't even want to talk to me. parents should treat all their children the same way and not put more pressure on one than the other just because they are the oldest, it's not fair for literally none of them cause then you get a spoiled young child that can do nothing for themselves in the real world and an oldest child that thinks all they do is never going to be good enough
@msk-qp6fn

I think it is important to take into consideration that children are different so they do need to be treated differently. HOWEVER, they still need to all be treated fairly with equity. If one child likes to draw, get them sketchbooks and pencils. If another likes reading get them their books. But don't give one child a brand new fabre castel professional colored pencils while the other worn hand me down books ALL. THE. TIME.

She doesn't deserve to have to deal with that all her life and I've felt she rented me since I was a child for this, I always tried to do what I could to make things more fair and let my mom know when she's being unjust to my sister just because she's the oldest, but it still isn't fair to have to grow up this way. 😢

@@brittanyanderson8195 Though that parental mentality may be read as ipso facto in the aforementioned sentiment, it's not a given, and, certainly, not a conscious choice on behalf of our parents. It's never a concerted effort to neglect and dismiss the other children OVER their "baby." It's just an animalistic response to what they recognize is the "last" of their progeny. It's the idea that if they failed the prior "attempts" (hahaha), with the "final" one they, at least, can make it right. It's kind of ludicrously, stupidly human of them. Word of advice: For those intermittent and older siblings seeking the same connection the "baby" has with their parents... engage with your parents on an intellectual or emotional level exclusive to you. And, remind them that they are still needed by asking advice, however banal or unneeded. It's about making them feel needed :)

@Marcos as pretty as all that sounds, its still lead to massive amounts of trauma for so many people (as seen by the comments section of this video). @MarcosIsABaritone
Жыл бұрын
@@brittanyanderson8195 I'm so sorry for the dearth of affection and recognition received from your parent/s. I appreciate your sharing your experience. Your situation and others' similar would probably not benefit from my "olive branch" advice because the problem is much deeper than simply not being a parent's "favorite" or rather a parent's pet. In my advice, I was explicating the youngest sibling is given a leniency and freedom of expression and a more friend-like report from whichever parent because the parent has finally learned from their mistakes when they were overly strict and anxious and emotionally awkward with the older siblings. My example, unclear though I may have been, meant to imply the other siblings were still given attention, care and an affection (however not as effusive as given the baby!) But your experience is one of a neglect and dismissiveness, amounting to an emotional trauma that continues to inform a self-devaluation. Your condition and others with similar experiences would benefit from one on one therapy, and, eventually, if your parent has matured with a refined sense of emotionality, having a paired session.

Oldest here with one younger sibling: our parents switched their favoritism to whoever caused the least problems and lived up to their expectations. That started with me being favorite and my sib getting the "You're awful" treatment - changed when younger one managed to proceed with life while I was stuck dealing with a declining mental health from all the pressure - and then again when I got the pity treatment and my sib got none of that, unable to voice their own issues because my parents focused on mine. Real 60% of dads and 70% of moms have a fav child
as the youngest sibling i felt the difference my mom made between me and my older sister and it was something i couldn't control and my sister also grew resentment towards me which i always felt sad about, i was young like 8 and sometimes she wouldn't even want to talk to me. parents should treat all their children the same way and not put more pressure on one than the other just because they are the oldest, it's not fair for literally none of them cause then you get a spoiled young child that can do nothing for themselves in the real world and an oldest child that thinks all they do is never going to be good enough
@msk-qp6fn

Meanwhile middle child:*casually disappers*
I am youngest born, and my father’s favorite; I am a daughter after all. My older brother (middle child) is my mother’s favorite. Now that leaves my eldest brother 🥲 But in all honesty, my eldest brother is the most patient of all, is kind to a fault, with the softest heart and just an overall very genuine person. We all love you, eldest brother! 🥲❤️

Generally the oldest child isn't the favorite because they did everything right and they listened because they had undivided attention. They don't take it as a compliment when their parents just think that they should and that they are capable. But it is a huge compliment because that tells you that your parents don't have to worry about you cuz you're going to be all right the other ones they worry about LOL

even in K-Dramas, you see moms loving their loser young sons more than their accomplished elder daughters, so this seems to be legit in the culture. Hell, my mom and dad love my little brother more than me, and my dad expected me to be born a boy to the point he brought cars and toys meant for a boy before I was born. He even tipped the nurse to make sure they tell him I was a boy when everybody knew I was going to be a girl. His "conniption" when I came into this world will be my greatest victory because I love every moment of being a woman :D
