I'm a security guard and I'd like to point out that some pubs/clubs do just ask for ID regardless of age. The ID has to be a photo ID (Drivers License, Proof of Age, Passport) Plenty of the time they're asking because the venue is a bit rough and as a result getting ID on anyone coming in makes keeping track of any troublemakers easier. In others, it's because they're under scrutiny by the government because in a gaming room you are legally required to hold ID on you regardless of age and the business can face up to $50,000 in fines for failing to enforce that. In many busy nightclubs, the rule is quite often there as a combination of a blanket rule for the sake of simplicity, and because of how young the clientele often are.

Stupid rule but it is right and the bar tender can be fined something like $5,000 grand for serving someone without ID as well regardless how old they are.

Im 5 years older then my brother and his mates...Went to the pub and orded a meal and no drinks while they all orded drinks and some random food. Not a single one of them got asked for ID. I forgot my ID for some reason and they refused to take my order, they also asked me to leave so the other boys couldnt order me any drinks as well.... i asked the bloke at the bar how old he was and he said 21.... im like mate, i'm fkn older then you now let me pay you to make me a fkn burger. Still kicked me out. Came back with my ID and the bloke had to bloody type it in to see if i was over 18.... bro, my birth date is in the 1990's you shouldnt have to type that shit in to know im over 18....
