Fun fact the French lost more men going into Russia due to the scorching summer heat than to the winter cold, especially when the men where forced marched to catch the Russian army and had to basically take russian trenches by force attack and mass infantry charges. Then came the march back home and we all know how that turned out.

The winter was just the more scary one. The summer was deadly but everyone still thought Napoleon was gonna win. When it got cold it became clear as day that this was the end of the road. That's why the winter retreat seemed so much more rough than the summer march.

@@gidi3250 I think that's more opposite. Soldiers were 'used' to hot weather, especially in Southern France. The cold on the other hand was more extreme. I also think that Napoleon might have had his hand in this. Admitting you send half your men to die of heatstroke and being shot only to maybe get that decisive battle does not sound as cool as losing your men to an abnormal winter. Now it sounds like only nature could beat Napoleon.

@@the_tactician9858 well we also have to remember the world back then wasn't as hot as it is today and that even the French noticed that sometimes the temperatures during the march into Russia was the same that you would find in a desert and true it did get hot in other European nations like Spain and Portugal but we should also remember the winter in Russia was also the worst in its history books and the winter in ww2 was on a similar nature, a once in a lifetime kinda thing, sure Europe has cold weather and snow but during the retreat it was worse than any western European nation had ever seen. That and up till that point Napoleon hadn't really lost and if their was a loss it was a Marshall who failed and Napoleon himself would got to that front and personally fix it.

I mean he's already played many nations with focus trees (Australia, The Raj, Bulgaria, China, Commie China, Czechoslovakia, and Canada) which means they were undeniably 'meant to be played', and he's played several which have formable nations (Afghanistan, Malaya, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, The East Indies, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, and Finland) and as formables can't be created by puppets that means they were most probably intended to be for a player to make use of (since the ai has no chance in hell of doing it themselves) and thus are 'meant to be played' too. So no, this isn't the first, it's pretty far from it.

Once you get to Poland, you must acquire the bear general.
