Wanted to bring attention to the singer's vocals. He's got a very soothing and calm singing voice, but can also sing along just as well with the loud and more aggressive parts. Obviously Nyango Star is awesome, but the vocalist is pretty damn good too :)

It's a very skillful composition, not despite, but because of the simplicity of it. It speaks to everyone, and even has a story of overcoming inner obstacles, and how promise lies beyond ones immediate surroundings. Obligation versus free will, it has everything, and in very simple terms.

The best part is that the person inside the mascot can’t see crap, so this is muscle memory and days of practice just to play that well.

I live and teach in Japan and something I haven't seen noted in the comments (at least as far as I can see) is how relevant the original video is for Japanese people. The thing is, central heating is seriously rare here; most people get through winter with localised heating (kerosene heaters, electric blankets being the most affordable) so it seriously sucks balls in winter here. The average apartment or house also has terrible insulation, at least compared to the Canadian houses I lived in. My students all resonated with the original video so much they all showed their parents the song, which is a major achievement if you ask me.

It actually just is metal. The character playing drums , Nyango Star, is actually meant to be a metal drummer. "According to the documentary, Nyango is an apple which has been inhabited by the spirit of a dead cat, and now has drumming superpowers which enable it to play some pretty insane metal behind the kit. The mascot originates from Kuroishi City in the Aomori prefecture, which is famous in Japan for its apples." It's really fascinating.

Whether it be something as trivial as simply getting out of bed to go to the washroom, or something bigger such as confessing to someone you might like. I find it funny that this drumming actually isn't even really metal, it's a pretty standard rock beat, just played faster than usual. I'd say it's the closest to punk rock, of all things (or J-rock which it pretty much is). Deathcore specifically is much heavier than that (and is generally amongst the heaviest genres rhythm-wise), although some other metal genres could be pretty close to this video. Now excuse me, I'm gonna go jerk off to how amazing and knowledgeable I am.

All of my drum heros for last 50 years have just been knocked down a notch

What can I add that has not been said about this video It's just damn near perfect in every way, from the music to the lyrics to the amazing subject matter and the vocals combined with that smashing drummer and oh! the transitions from ska to punk to.....outstanding vocals t'boot! This song is oddly cathartic

I love how he is calmly and rhythmically playing the drum and the next second he becomes possessed 😂

I don't think more agreeable lyrics have ever been written than the ones from this song...

I think that this song has a deeper meaning. It's about about standing up and reaching for things that we are afraid to reach xD.

No matter what I am thoroughly impressed with Nyango Star. Every video I watch leaves me smiling and in awe. The talent and dedication the individual has is impressive...most impressive, lol. Those blast beats and fills are perfect. And did you see the way Nyango keeps in time but switches snare hands?...I could go on lol, freakin' awesome!

@@otaku-chan4888 Why the exclamation mark? This person didn’t refer to the performer as a “he” or a “she”? I like the idea that the performer inside doesn’t want their identity known and since the performer has NEVER publicly stated their gender (that I’m aware of) it doesn’t matter anyway?

The song is by a group called 打首獄門同好会 Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai (Beheading Hell-gate/prison-gate Hobby-group). Song title is 布団の中から出たくない "Futon No Naka Kara Detakunai"(I don't want to get out of my futon bed) I never knew Nyango Star covered this song, but nice!
