How do you know about the tournaments? Its something only for the top players?

I was black in this game. The reason I took the 8/5/10 instead of the 8/5/4 is because that's the only way I saw I could win the game. As much as Dylan said he disliked that play I think it's the right move. I lose OWS to everyone else on the table because they simply outproduce me on ore. And I will also be stuck with way too much wood in my hand; that's not a winning setup. I had won 1 game and lost 1 game in the tournament before that, so the only way to make it to the semi finals was to go for the win, which is why I decided to play it risky. Didn't work out this time though.

yeah but this way you left 4-5-11 open for expansion to dylighted, which indeed he immediately exploited. This allowed him to complete his setup with the wood he was missing and play for both army and road, which eventually won with, btw. you would have been stuck with a lot wood, that's true, but that would have been still more tradable than sheep imo

@@odoacredacalcutta5085 I don't care if Orange wins, Green wins, Or Dylan wins. The play I made was the best odds for ME to win the game. Sure it gave Dylan amazing expansions but I don't want to throw my own game just to slow his down. He will also be robbed like crazy with those expansions (Like you saw in the game) and if I get on the 9/10 I will be able to fight him for army so he likely won't get both army and road. And I'm not sure how wood is tradable here. Orange has only wood and both Dylan and Green produce more wood than brick. If I was able to expand to the 9/10 I would've been able to use the sheep for dev cards instead of relying on trades that nobody will be interested in.

I get what you were going for and getting the 9-10 would be huge for your game. However it opens you up to getting plowed so easily and then you have a wasted road. If you take the 8-5-4 then you lock the board AND have the 8-10 expansion which is huge with a 3:1 port. It’s also much lower risk as it’s unlikely someone takes that coastal spot (only orange might consider). I think committing to the 9-10 has a potential for big payoff, but also a lot more downside as the 8-5-4 to 8-10 is still definitely playable with massive production to make more ores.

@@kidkid I understand your logic. But in order to cut off green to the 9/10, you should have taken the wood first, and then hope to roll a 3 for the brick before green hit his. Taking brick first, and sharing the 5 wood with him, you were getting plowed all the time because he was going before you and any time you hit the 5 he would have 2. I know it's easy to talk in my position just from watching the aftermath, but once you competed with green... you were really calling to get plowed.

@@cornelius233 If I was playing for points that was what I would do. But I needed a win to get into the semi finals. That's why I chose the riskier play; higher risk, higher reward.

Dylan's so good at table talking he even convinces himself he's not that strong until he wins haha

But for real. That's actually what he does. He said once that he talks like this because he used to watch lectures and long yt vids on 1.25 or 1.5 speed. He got so used to it he started talking like it too, lol

@@ZZubZZero i do the same . i watch at 2x lectures. And now I can't stand people talking slow. My attention span is so low, you need to talk fast to keep me from dozing off.

The turn at 25:00, I think emptying your hand for a city was the best play, more flexible win conditions on your next move.

Man I watched a sped up video (studying some physics, want to end my suffering quick). Then watched your video and thought I forgot to disable the 1.5× settings I only to realize your videos playing at normal speed. Breath air Haha

I think table-talkin a little less than usual (what you definetly did this game) does help you quite a lot. I have seen in many of your previous uploads that people tend to get annoyed by it more than it acutally helps you in the end. gg in this one.

Surely at 26:08, you still should 2:1 your wheat to drop a road, right? 0 cards so your opponents can't steal and you would always need an extra road in the future regardless.

Why did Orange not plow to the Wheat port? He got 2x Brick trades (one from Dylan - dangerous!) and rolled a double Wood. Im guessing Black must have plucked the first Brick.

Green actually had the materials to secure road but decided to greed the other players with a settle lol

can you only play voice on tournaments? what about regular ranked game.

I want to ask why not do the double pop in the midgame(around 12 13 minutes in), at that point any vp pull pretty much guarantees an easy road+army win, considering how little devs everyone has I find it unlikely to get locked down, and I do see the inherent risk of pulling double knight, but that just cements you army even more, and with so many nonknights left I think it's worth it. At 15:12 if you pop once into a vp then you have the win right there, and if not then triple dev is very likely to get you a vp or mono, and gets you a less stuck hand.

taking 6-3-11 pointing upwards was a top move. Perfect read on orange and green next placements.... 4-5-11 was way 2 bad for both, even if they knew you would get a top position once you expanded there, they really coulnd't stop it unless they were willing to renounce to trade for brick with you for the whole game which they really couldn't afford.

The thumbnail is 100% clickbait. There is no 9 wheat nevermind all three together with your city in between...

placing one road means when he gets robbed it's high chance his settle is broken. If he holds, then even if he's stolen from he maintains the settle materials - just needs wheat.
