Incredible community! So grateful for the support ❤️
Your super excited "Let's gooooo!" always gets me hyped :)
Pretty shocked you didn’t take 5 9 10 to start and get the strongest wood/brick on the board. You can always get a port with your second settlement. I think reds set up was quite good, just ended up getting killed by the lack of 9s

5910 leaves 843 and 693, which is just too much to give to 4th. I thought he was going 9411 and 843 to have a more viable OWS game, leaving me the 5910. If blue trades and fights to keep army, I think we have a great shot to close it with a city + settle. We are pretty much on 9 points with our current hand.

@DandyDrew - Catan maybe just maybe taking 4 8 3 first is the play? Then grab 9 4 11?

Red's setup makes sense as a low sheep road + cities setup in this board with hard-to-access sheep. However, I think they had to go to ore port first for this setup to work. Doubling on the 9 brick just evens out their wood/brick ratio nicely, while doubling on the 4 gets their hand flooded with wood. I guess they were afraid of splitting roads but I think it's worth it. But ultimately black's position just seems crushing without good board coordination.
The upload schedule is awesome man!!! Keep up the good work brotha!!

These are my comfort videos
The turn where you built your second city, I preferred 4:1 ore for Wheat, 2:1 brick for Wheat and 2 Devs, spends the cards more efficiently and so many knights played there's lots of good stuff in the deck. I think you played your setup really well though, black just got too far ahead once blue stopped buying Devs. Maybe you could work with blue to feed them more Devs, idk black had a monster setup so was going to be tough. Good game!
ty for making these
Nah it’s a dandy drew video so I am always entertained :)
I was really surprised with your first pick. I for sure thought you would go 5-8-10 on the left or the 5-9-10 on the right. Through my eyes they seemed better. That's why you are the pro, you see things other people don't.
I'd go with 4 8 3 with assumption that Ill always get wheat on 9 11 4 or 5 9 10 in return. If you can then reqch 10 2 9, that's winning. Also I'd city up 9 6 3 first to trade wheat with blue or red. At that point the was a race for devs with shirtage of wheat. But 3 10 11 worked well for you, hot a city almost immediately
Good job black
ENTERTAINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha :) Thanks!
Thought 10 3 11 was the best city for sure, glad you chose it
Nothing you can do about someone else’s numbers crushing. Based on setup alone going into 4 points all around you definitely could have taken that home with a better bell curve of rolls. GG black, played their game really well, pulled perfect devs, next time!
If I was forth, I would have gone 9 4 11 down and 5 9 10 right. It's a side-by-side position with strongest wood brick. I would probably prioritize going for the 8 3 brick port. Seems like a fairly safe play and that set up would be really strong.
Do you upload every ranked game you play?
❤
19:54 where did your ore go?! Haha you got robbed by the Colonist
I think red's pick was fine. What was not fine imo were his roads, I would have pointed directly to the 6-3, as it was obviosuly going to be free since everyone had wheat already. Had he got there earlier, he would have had 2 cities very soon and at that point he might have outmuscled the table, disregarding sheep, which anyways he could have easily gotten on the 11 3:1 port a bit later. point anyways is that it's impossible to win when the OWS player draws 3 vps and just enough knights to get army. Imo in competive catan I would remove 2 vps from the deck, I feel they're a cheap way to win and make the game just more random.
Man, I had an in person game like this one recently. I had a great setup but the dice refused to roll my numbers. Tough to win if you never get cards.
Hey dandy. I have a question for u. I’m currently a 1590ish. I almost always float around 1560-1640. When I win I almost always get +21 and when I lose I almost always get -7. Do u know what all go into determining those numbers. I saw that your loss got u -4 and we are ranked about the same at the moment.
Could have maybe looped around the six to pick up the 3:1 port.
So you talk about pacing a lot, but what should you do if you get almost the exact cards to make that city or settlement? Are you supposed to just hold? Not make trades? Genuinely curious.
Hey drew :) What are your thoughts on the technically legal free card? (2 for 1 trade followed by 1 for 1)
@dandydrew

Sure, why not!? It’s a rare trade in ranked but in person, can be more viable.

@@dandydrew It was a whole controversy when Dylan did it. People argued that despite being a series of legal trades, it had the same outcome as an illegal one, so clearly it wasn't intended to work that way and should be disallowed. However, I agree with you. It's a niche situation that always serves to balance out the board and promote the underdog
If you could make a new dev cards. What would you want?
with so much wheat on the board, isn't 8-4-3 a good 3rd pick? Basically pick up the rare resource as the 3rd pick

That'd be my pick. Feels very risky leaving that much ore to 4th position.
Be a few days till i get to this one... already know its worthy of a like!
Werdydand sounds familiar..

What up!? Life is good and smooth. Glad you are here :)
Before watching your content, I never really saw the value of roads for winning in their own right, at least in four-player games. (Three-player games are a completely different story.) In other words, I was a hybrid OWS player who only valued roads for expansion purposes. I have been winning more games since I subscribed to your channel, which I think is the highest compliment someone can pay a content creator.
youre saying you learned to respect dylans 2 minute turns
Have you thought about putting "This" part of the title at the front? When I get your mobile notifications, all I see is 'Catan Pro Climbs to Rank...' I'm going to click on all of your videos regardless, but a casual viewer might just skim right over it if that's all they see. By throwing the unique quotes at the front, it might help catch more attention from casual subscribers or recommended-scrolling-folks who aren't already into Catan. That being said, I have little experience making youtube videos. Maybe the consistency of 'Catan Pro Climbs...' at the beginning might help reinforce your algorithm or something. It's just a thought I had
Funny that you didn't like Red's setup but he 100% had winning rolls at 21:15 with either 3 or 8 being double city + take road... Meanwhile you never even reached 9 points

the 4s and 8s massively helped out reds game
Towards the end you ported 4 to 1 twice for two wheat. I think you forgot you had the brick port and could have ported 2 brick for a wheat and kept 2 more cards in hand.
Hi Dandy! I have a question I think you can help me with! I've been steadily climbing the global ladder, I'm at 60th at the moment. My problem is that I've been trying to participate in tourneys and I still finish my games on 7 or less usually. Do you have any idea why that might be?
@dandydrew
Жыл бұрын
Congratulations on top 60! Plenty of time to keep going and rank up further. The tournament journey is an amazing one. I wish more ranked players got involved there as you will learn A LOT. Best thing to do would be to schedule a coaching session so I can see what’s going on in your game and perspective but some quick things: 1. Great players will utilize voice chat and make it strategically a part of their game when it comes to tournament play. Be ready to get on the mic and work the table in your favor. 2. Most tournament players really put a large emphasis on OWS - Experiment with different setups that might cater to playing production + road. You will get a lot of trades and advantages staying away from army on a lot of boards. 3. MORE TRADES AND DEALS! One of the best abilities in Voice chat games is your ability to facilitate more deals/ trades. Be proactive with helping the table, knowing it will come back to you in many ways. Keep going and good luck!

@@dandydrew Thank you for the quick response! I've been experimenting with the mic, but I'll try to utilize it more then : D I am not that familiar with your coaching system so I'd be glad to learn more about that. I can't pay since I'm only 17 and don't really have any money.
