Honestly when it comes down to it there really isn't any job that isn't best served by having the most meritorious employee possible. Picking by any other metric is just asking for trouble. A homogenous society is almost always more conducive to success, depending on the base society of course.

Every job must be filled in merit, not "certain ones". How do you rationalize that it's OK in one instance and not the other? You will lose that argument over the long term because of your flawed logic. There should be no concessions in the requirement of merit.

@@iuyozx The Boeing 737 and Boeing 737 Max planes have had multiple crashes and other issues for several years now. Boeing has know and the airlines have known (for years). With of the hiring practices of some airlines, all parties will play the blame game for sure.

i used to work in Speqtrum aerospace a company in Mexico that manufactures parts for Boeing and Spirit left the job when they started hiring too many women in all departments, I have no problem working with them, but each of the new employees are highly incompetent, from production to quality and HR, in addition to having strong rumors of corruption in the quality department because the CEO does not know how to speak Spanish and is not aware of all the tricks that the quality department does to send parts with notorious defects that could cost the lives of many, As you can see, I am bilingual and I am also an engineer, they moved me to production and they lowered my salary to make room for the new employees and that was the last straw that broke the camel's back, I am afraid of what may happen in the future if things continue like this but it wouldn't surprise me.

I think people should see that it's nowhere close to being a good idea to hire people who are not qualified for a certain position. That is just the truth

In my time in the military, I flew so much that I swore I would never fly again. For those that like it, fair enough, but I detest flying. Not only for the cramped space, poor food (even by military standards) and being in close proximity to walmart rejects for hours is not my idea of a good time. This just gives me one more checkbox on the list of reasons not to fly. Didn't really need one, but there it is.

Navy veteran and former defense contractor here and I agree with the OP. Haven’t flown since before 9/11 and all that I’ve seen - including this story - makes me less eager to go anywhere by commercial aviation. Rather drive unless there’s an extremely good reason to fly.

There should be (aren't there?) records of who did exactly what to put together and service airplanes and when, down to each smallest individual component that got tweaked at all. If they make a single mistake that compromises the integrity of any part of the airplane they should be fired for professional negligence.

If its anything like the manufacturing industry I'm in- and what we make doesn't carry the same life threatening risks on failure- they can. I can take any finished product and trace each subproduct in it to the batch purchased from the supplier and I also have all "rework" history. They know. They just wont do anything because chances are it will come back to one of their diversity hires and to accuse them of not doing their job right would be "racist"

South Africa has a policy to employ what they refer to as previously disadvantaged persons regardless of whether those people have the required level of education and skill for the job. South Africa now has an abundance of people in critical jobs with sub-optimal education, and it shows. Nurses are an example. The average hospital in SA has nursing staff that are horrific at their jobs. Police hire the lowest common denominator regardless of education level and it shows with the sky-high crime rate. Unemployment in SA is at close to 60% and the tax paying base is around 5% of the population. And that base gets smaller year on year as more people emigrate out of SA. The brain drain is a huge problem. Now there is a policy coming that will change the health care sector forcing all tax payers to pay a forced medical aid contribution to the state and then they will be the only provider of funds and thus will force patients to go to public health facilities which, as I mentioned, are run by severely incompetent people. Doctors are leaving our shores in droves due to this. I can go on. Don't let what happened to SA happen to the US. You have the power. Vote right

Hiring people with mental disabilities explains why I suddenly have to carry a remote ID chip on my toy airplanes after decades of safe operation...🙄

They pulled all that model of plane out of the air to inspect them and finding issues with every single one when it comes to that plug.

Meanwhile the rich bypass and go straight to their private planes. Once 90% of people get priced, scared, or just don't want to deal with flying... they'll move to make driving for privileged only too

Multiple whistleblowers have warned us about this. The airlines are not doing the maintenance. Many times, it's cheaper for them to pay the penalties when they get caught not doing the maintenance.

The news coverage will depend on how much advertising that airline has done with said news media. Remember just like football for example, if you have too many things to say about favorite NFL team and you are in the news media, you lose access to all the perks that go along with that especially if you're a sports reporter or related to one or work in the same organization.. you'll lose access to the players and all the perks. Same thing applies here they won't give you the goodies if you have too much to say about the baddies.

When the lawsuits start to pile up they'll reassess. Some of these airlines have pretty tight margins these days. They won't be able to dazzle the courts with never ending expensive lawyers.

Check out MH370 ATC recordings, Kuala lumpur ATC tried several times to get Ho Chi Minh City ATC to understand, they wanted to know if they had received the hand over of MH370? HCMC said yes to anything. Neither spoke acceptable english, Obviously It went down somewhere in the sea between them
