When you don't feel like getting up to go spearfishing... GO! Biggest bass of the year.

We all have those days when the alarm goes off, conditions are less than ideal and we think, 'should I just stay in bed and wait for a better day?'. You never know what the sea will produce for you and you can't shoot fish in your bedroom. This was one of those days but it was my only day off during the week so I decided to go anyway. Things weren't looking positive but it only takes one dive to change that.

09:58 Although some fish worms can infect humans, they can be killed off by freezing. Commercial fishing operations deep freeze fish at -37C (-35F)for at least 15 hours, however most home freezers cannot do that. Instead, if you can set your home freezer to -20C (-4F) you can expect parasites to die after 7 days. However the best method is to simply cook any fish to at least 62C (145F) as parasites cannot survive that. Most cooking takes fish above this temperature anyway. I pulled this information off of the seafood health facts website. And I learned about freezing fish below -20C in a sushi class. Tapeworms, which can be found in freshwater fish, can be very dangerous as they can end up in your brain; and Anisakiasis can be caused by roundworms in saltwater fish and can cause intestinal distress.

Love that you advocate for using the most of the fish. Coming from the mediterranean where fish is a precious/rare thing I get a little annoyed by the way some species or parts of fish are treated as 'crap' or 'wastefish' in fish-rich regions. Thanks for that, keep it up!

Love it. Seems like you were quite far out! I went through a phase where I really wanted to do what you do. But one of the things that stopped me was the anxiety of being out so far and being swept by currents. I know not to long ago you did a spearfishing "getting started" video and I think it served as a great stepping off point for beginners, but I would love to learn a bit more about how to choose where to dive safely. How do you know you can head out that far and be safe? How do you know how deep you can go for how long without passing out? That kind of stuff. Would be really interested to know. Thanks for the great content as usual!

It’s been my Achilles heel before in competitions. I actually dropped the band back to the second notch instead of the furthest notch and was shooting great. May have made the band slightly too hot on this little 6.75mm spear.

@@DanielMann Would love to hear you discuss band strength and shaft whip. When I was much younger I decided to 'improve' my gun by adding a band, took me a while to understand why I could hit a fish at long range but not one straight in front of me :)

Awesome, Great sea bass Daniel Mann, keep like this, i like to watch you in action. But for me i said always : When you don't feel like getting up to go spearfishing... don't go, because i lost my biggest grouper, a good royal bream and a my first dentex in the same day.

Sounds to me after you described the terrain like a good place to find a great white. Brother your balls are so big! I can’t even get in a swimming pool after dark. As a kid I watched the movie Jaws...nope, and the whole town of Nopeville! I’m not food. Still, it is amazing what you do and I have mad respect. Nice shot.

I really enjoy the more cinematic styled videos you make. You should consider buying an anamorphic lens to make the footage even more cinematic.

Filleting a fish is so weird to me here in the Caribbean. We almost always cook fish whole. Find are a nice chip when fried. No wastage
