We're back in Trailmakers making a supersonic Hydrofoil, a water vehicle that uses wings to sit out of the water creating a super smooth ride. However I take over-engineering too far as the reality breaks once again...

For another thing to do in this game, get from the lowest point on the map (underwater) to space in the shortest amount of time possible. The craft doesn't have to remain intact, just the cockpit. Doesn't have to be a single craft, could be a launcher and payload.

Boat......
Well the first one you built was a hydrofoil but then it just became a boat with a raised bridge. I'm not an expert but I believe the point of hydrofoils is to minimize the amount of surface area in contact with the water to reduce drag, so once most of the hull started staying in contact with the water with only the cockpit raised it stopped being a hydrofoil.
@Diceman83

The mechanics of the game force him to keep the underwater engines... underwater. He might have switched to air breathing engines, but those tend to go airborn when getting to supersonic speeds. Without some kind of automatic stabilization that keeps the hydrofoils at the right depth, it's probably not possible.
@dorbert3838
2 жыл бұрын
@@Diceman83 He could probably use the propulsion of a jet engine but by maintaining the water paddles, all the lift is coming from the water so it shouldn't actually fly. By keeping the lift separate from propulsion it shouldn't be possible to maintain lift in the air.

it stayed above water because of engines relatively to center of mass were lower, so it tried to make backflip, but because engines stop working out of water, it stayed just on the surface. I guess dragon rocket engine and those flappers would be hydrofil, this is boat.

I love how he started with a perfectly reasonable hydrofoil and then it just slowly became a boat. The Hydrofoil of Theseus. Edit: HE SAID IT LMAO
1000% not a hydrofoil. The foils need to extend deeper in to the water so that the mass of the hull of the boat is no longer touching the water at all limiting the water resistance to only the foils.
The muffled voice when the vehicle goes underwater is just perfect

I think you probably needed more foils along its length to lift the back end up more. Also, probably go wider rather than longer if you're accidentally invoking the Kraken.

I was expecting a traditional hydrofoil design and got a really fast speedboat lol. On another note if you didnt know canada did quite a bit of research into high speed hydrofoil design. Had one of the best programs.
It’s definitely a boat RCE. Also, was it the Kraken you summoned or Simon the Snake?
i think you should do the same design, but shorter, and use some jet engines that are out of the water, that way you could use, maybe for engines per block (one under water and 3 outside)
hey Matt, love the video as always. But for an upgrade, you should keep the idea of the hydrofoils, by making a line of engines a bit more under the floating blocks, with the foils, because i think the glitching comes from the difference of time of when the floaters bounce off of the water as you gain speed. I'm french so i m sorry if my explanations are terrible. Say hi to paddy if you read this.
I read the title of this video and thought, "No, no, no... that is something an architect would do".

Hey, Matt. I'm not usually one to leave comments, but I wanted to say I discovered your channel randomly, liked your content, subscribed and watched dozens of your videos. Without a doubt, when I get off of work at night and settle down with a nice hot meal, one of my favorite things to to is watch you play a game. Thank you for being a part of my life and I wish you luck on 1 million subscribers! I personally think you've earned it. From me and the rest of the "engineers". Much love bro! ❤
For you next project, I suggest building the Paddymobile in Trailmakers.
Don't know how it works in the game, but IRL V-shaped (dihedral) wings provide stability. If the craft rolls left, the left wing flattens out and provides more lift, thus countering the roll.
It started as a hydrofoil-esq design, and then pretty much turned into a boat/sub-rocket.
Kinde feels like a mad scien... engineer: "Why do my ideas always break reality?"
I love the Trailmakers series! keep these up!
Just a boat at this point... It would be a hydrofoil if it lifted farther out of the water, I think? Love the videos, thanks for all the laughs :)

I feel like you've done a lot of horizontal speed records. What about vertical speed?
That was definitely a boat. You could have used rockets to propel it once you were up to speed and hydrofoiling.
Most hydrofoil vessels are propelled with a prop engine like an air craft.
Ooh, underwater sound effect. Fancy, I like it!
I'd love to see you design your own f1 car in the game with the end goal of designing the fastest car with the most grip or something like that
Now we all want to see a Paddy in trailmaker and see if he can be supersonic :D

Ooh almost close to 1 Mil Subs! I always watch your videos before I go to bed (today is earlier which is great). Looking forward for your next milestone and more content soon!
Hell yeah!! Love the video keep up the good work Matt!!!
Damn dude, been here since 250k, very nice to see your almost close to 1mil, cheers dude🍻🍻
I think you need to add hydrofoils periodically to add stability when you get super long.
That i'm afraid was more skidding across the surface then hydro foiling if you wanna hydrofoil you basically wanna build a catamaran but instead of buoyancy on the out rigging you want something like a tail of a plane with horizontal to control the pitch and the tail to help with stability at speed and control in general as it will also help when you decide to break the game and make it longer.
You want a passive hydrofoil, not an active one. They are curved, and the ends come out of the water when you start planing. Eventually, enough are out of the water that the lift equals the weight of the boat, and it'll naturally settle.
Man its crazy just barely a year ago you were building a stone bridge on poly 2 for not even 100k and now about to crush 1mil and Ive been here for nearly every step. Congratz on this crazy success it really does prove that a solid personality can carry a channel from a hobby to a dream job. Heres to a mil and beyond cheers ✌️.

Technically, I don't think you ended up with a hydrofoil, but you DID manage to produce an unlimited hydroplane, which is also cool!
"The Dangers of Mechanical and Structural Harmonics- A Beginners Guide" by RCE
This vid just starts as an normal hydro foil and it ends in a kraken, that ia what i like about you. You start with an idea but it ends in a goos sort of chaos.
I’m curious what he’s gonna do for 1 million, “civil engineer spends 1 million in poly bridge” Every single sub is deserved tbh, he always seems so excited for his videos. Really brightens me up just to see him have a great time (with the strongest of shapes);)
I think you're hydrofoil needs more foil.😂
17:20 Matt just found the rare red Gyarados😂
You should have a distance of at least 1 block between the boyancy block and the engines to qualify as hydrofoil. I don't know the game but if you could fix the the flaps to an angle (you don't need steering on them) and maybe put more of them on the length of your craft if you make it so long. You missed that you could be going wider with your craft and for stearing, an airplane rudder or turnable propellers (underwater).
Congrats on 1 million Your my fav KZreadr of all time ❤️🎉
When your hydrofoil looks more like a jet ski
5k away matt! I'm kinda new to your channel but I just wanna say that I've been enjoying everything so far. I've watched quite a lot of your vids and I just wanna say that you truly deserve the million. Excited to see how you would celebrate lol.
Excellent job with the editing schmichael
There exists a mod for this game that allows you to modify the maximum complexity of vehicles. You could do some crazy things with two or three times the base complexity value. Or more.
If I tried this, it would never, ever work in a million years. But the world shines on RCE.
Local engineer ignores engineering, creates leviathan.
ALMOST ONE MIL! WE LOVE YOU MATT
I have been watching for a while a nd love the videos. As they always pop up in my feed I presumed I was subscribed but it seems I was being a right architect and hadn't managed the simplest task. I have now rectified this and have my hard hat securely on!
fun fact: you can hold a button (its x on xbox but idk what it is on pc) to respawn at the last checkpoint inside your vehicle so you dont have to worry about having to get to the front to activate the engines
you could use two short versions of the whole thig as the hydro foils and put the cockpit elevated between them
You should try to build a ground effect vehicle. It's essentially a super heavy plane that can only achieve lift near the ground or surface of the water.

A large hovercraft?
I love Kraken tech :D KSP is best for it but it is quite impressive here as well.
It feels like yesterday when you had just like 30k subs with the polybridge content
congrats on 1 million subs my dude, you deserve it
Should have called this "when your engineer forgets to account for harmonic oscillation."
5:46 not really it push the hydro foil downward which you don't want in a hydro foil But a cone wouldn't as the both side would cancel each other And yes this is 100% sure
pay attention to all aerodynamic arrows because a dent still has them and the dent in this has a flat surface which causes aerodynamic issues
Y'know there's a piece in there where its basically double wide like you did, and could turn like 8 of those 4x2 into a sheet of them 4x16.
1 MIL SOON POG CHAMP
Everybody needs to subscribe so that we can get this genius of a man to a million!

"Why do my ideas always break reality?" because your too good at engineering so good you don't understand what you just made and the game freaking out over it 😁

This looks like an interesting sandbox game, to experiment with different things, in the vein of games like factorio except more open ended like minecraft! :D
I need more trail makers please and thanks!
That was definitely not an hydrofoil, but kudos on you for breaking the game 😂
Starts with trying to make a hydrofoil. Proceeds to recreat the fast boat mentioned in the start of the video. Next time, try to make a working hydrofoil maybe?
hydrofoils reduce drag resistance within the water by having just the fins in the water... the only part of your "hydrofoil" that isnt in the water is the cockpit...
Engineering at its finest!
The Kraken has escaped KSP physics!!!
if your speed is based on how fast the cockpit is moving you should try to break the sound barrier in a rotation like a marry-go-round
Are there any jet engines you can add to the above water part?
I wanna make a hydrofoil. Half hearted working prototype. Instantly makes a jet boat.
Would love to see you collaborate with scrapman. Him, kan, and camodo tend to do alot of mechanical challenges in games like this one and others
Making your machine longer 'because it will be better' is the very opposite of engineering.
hydrofoils often use jets instead of propellers so that the engine doesn't have to stay in the water
This just in, engineer makes a boat with extra steps and gives it fancy name, also COVID variant jumbotronbolimpicron strikes Greenland
''the cockpit , a place where passengers goes'' RCE - 2022
Alternative title: Engineer makes a really fast boat while trying to make a hydrofoil
You could add flaps.along the sides to help it balance out as you speed up
"Screw you island!" 😄
are there different drag coefficients for both air and water?
