When you accidently use engineering to summon the Kraken...

We're back in Trailmakers making a supersonic Hydrofoil, a water vehicle that uses wings to sit out of the water creating a super smooth ride. However I take over-engineering too far as the reality breaks once again...

    For another thing to do in this game, get from the lowest point on the map (underwater) to space in the shortest amount of time possible. The craft doesn't have to remain intact, just the cockpit. Doesn't have to be a single craft, could be a launcher and payload.

    Well the first one you built was a hydrofoil but then it just became a boat with a raised bridge. I'm not an expert but I believe the point of hydrofoils is to minimize the amount of surface area in contact with the water to reduce drag, so once most of the hull started staying in contact with the water with only the cockpit raised it stopped being a hydrofoil.

  • @Diceman83

    @Diceman83

    The mechanics of the game force him to keep the underwater engines... underwater. He might have switched to air breathing engines, but those tend to go airborn when getting to supersonic speeds. Without some kind of automatic stabilization that keeps the hydrofoils at the right depth, it's probably not possible.

  • @dorbert3838

    @@Diceman83 He could probably use the propulsion of a jet engine but by maintaining the water paddles, all the lift is coming from the water so it shouldn't actually fly. By keeping the lift separate from propulsion it shouldn't be possible to maintain lift in the air.

    it stayed above water because of engines relatively to center of mass were lower, so it tried to make backflip, but because engines stop working out of water, it stayed just on the surface. I guess dragon rocket engine and those flappers would be hydrofil, this is boat.

    hey Matt, love the video as always. But for an upgrade, you should keep the idea of the hydrofoils, by making a line of engines a bit more under the floating blocks, with the foils, because i think the glitching comes from the difference of time of when the floaters bounce off of the water as you gain speed. I'm french so i m sorry if my explanations are terrible. Say hi to paddy if you read this.

    That i'm afraid was more skidding across the surface then hydro foiling if you wanna hydrofoil you basically wanna build a catamaran but instead of buoyancy on the out rigging you want something like a tail of a plane with horizontal to control the pitch and the tail to help with stability at speed and control in general as it will also help when you decide to break the game and make it longer.

    You want a passive hydrofoil, not an active one. They are curved, and the ends come out of the water when you start planing. Eventually, enough are out of the water that the lift equals the weight of the boat, and it'll naturally settle.

    You should have a distance of at least 1 block between the boyancy block and the engines to qualify as hydrofoil. I don't know the game but if you could fix the the flaps to an angle (you don't need steering on them) and maybe put more of them on the length of your craft if you make it so long. You missed that you could be going wider with your craft and for stearing, an airplane rudder or turnable propellers (underwater).
