When the Bible says, "Fear the Lord," is this fear as in terror, or something else?

John from New Jersey calls Hank Hanegraaff, the host of the 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘔𝘢𝘯 broadcast and the 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘜𝘯𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘥 podcast, to ask if in fearing the Lord, are we supposed to be in terror; what does the bible mean when it says to "Fear the Lord?"

“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Disagree. Fear of YHVH is almost universally equated with "keeping His Commandments", not a sort of 'reverent awe'. It is also listed as one of the seven 'Spirits' of YHVH.

@michaelstaggs1880 Of course YHWH is never to be trifled with, such is clearly seen throughout the Scriptures. Jesus says the same thing in the New Testament, so Matthew 5:19. But you also fail to keep God's commandments and that you have an illness of sin that cannot be self-cured, so you need redemption and the grace of God to bring you back into union with God. Denial of sin is self-delusion - 1 John 1:8.

@@BibleAnswerMan No one here ever claimed to be without sin (1Jhn1:8), as in never have committed a sin, but only to have put the 'old man' of lawlessness to rest and to have put on the 'new man' of righteousness: obedience to the commandments of YHVH (Rom6:5-11). How else do you believe Zechariah and Elisheba pleased Elohim? Luke1:"5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6And THEY WERE BOTH RIGHTEOUS BEFORE GOD, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord." The idea of a "sin disease that cannot be self cured" is anti-Scriptural. Although the Bible teaches us that the thoughts and intentions of a man's heart are evil from his youth (Gen6:5), Elohim has provided us His Instruction, given us the choice, and has explicitly told us that Righteousness is not beyond our reach. Deu30:11“For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. In response to your invocation of 1Jhn1:8 to attempt to prove your point, I believe it is important to examine the context to ascertain John's true meaning: 5This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light (TORAH/TRUTH) and in Him is no darkness (LAWLESSNESS) at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness (WALK IN LAWLESSNESS), we lie and do not practice (WORK) the truth (TORAH). 7But IF we walk in the light (ONLY IF WE WALK IN TORAH)as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (DOES YESHUA GRANT US ATONEMENT) 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (WE CANNOT CLAIM TO ALWAYS HAVE BEEN PERFECT AND WITHOUT NEED OF ATONEMENT, THEREBY DENYING YESHUA) We know that redemption back to YHVH was provided to those who repent of lawlessness and walk anew IN THE COMMANDMENTS through the death of Yeshua by the grace of God, the Holy Spirit, that teaches and empowers us to remain faithful to God: even to the smallest of His commandments. Any doctrine contrary to this is a false gospel.

@@BibleAnswerMan So what is "union with God" as an experience in the human soul and mind? If it's just an intellectual concept it has no value or meaning.
