My old man is 70 and jokingly said he might be watching the last game of Saints in the Premiership in his lifetime the other day. I don’t think that’s true but it was still deep.

Seeing some of these names is actually wild to me. Virgil Van Dijk, Dušan Tadić, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg to name a few. This was also right after Mané left, Southampton in that time period was just so good. Really sad to see them go down this year but they'll definitely be back.

I remember that group. Both Southampton and Inter Milan went out unexpectedly and Inter lost to Be'er Sheva both times.

Crazy that Southampton went from lighting up the EPL and beating Inter to relegation this season. This Southampton squad was such a nice surprise to watch. Hopefully they get back in the Premier League sooner rather than later

Yeah because they had Ward Prowse creating everything from set pieces. Half their chances were corners it looks like. Shame that overrated centre half doesn't know how to header a ball or they would have been fine

Fast forward to 2023, Southampton are going back to the Championship and Inter Milan are in a UCL final. Time flies so fast.

I miss this team. Tadic, Van Dijk, Yoshida, Forster, Ward-Prowse, Rodriguez, Fonte... Not to mention the ones that came before like Lallana, Lambert and Schneiderlin. Those were the days.

Van dijks finishing has since improved a lot. Pretty good for a CB tho

Southampton in 2023: Relegated to Championship after 10 years of reign in PL. Most of the 2016 players like Van Dijk were left the club. Inter Milan in 2023: Played in Champions League Final after 13 years.

Not really. If you follow their progress you realise in 15/16 Southampton was as good as Brighton. But a couple of bad decisions +a hesitancy to make good signings see them regress over the years to relegation
