A bit off topic, but I gotta vent it somewhere, and your one of my favorite Eve creators so… My biggest pet peeve about Eve is its skill system 😂. Eve is pretty much my dream game, I’ve always wanted a massive space mmo simulating the environments/politics of Star Wars and Star Trek, and this is it. And Eve would probably be one of my favorite games if it weren’t for skills lol. I much prefer it when the game makes you grind items or do activities to improve stats, I really don’t like it when they make you wait for stuff. In clash of clans case, for example, at least the wait time doesn’t actually limit what you can do in the game, the upgrades just improve stuff. But in Eve, you can’t do certain activities until you finish waiting for skills to train. And wouldn’t making players grind for upgrades make more sense financially? The more players have a reason to play, the better. My solution: don’t remove skills, they have existed for long enough that removing them outright would be too big a change. Instead, have it so you can do certain activities or something ingame to speed up the process. Like, mine this many ore to remove 3 hours of wait time in skill training, etc.

I started Eve Online 10 days ago after owning it in Steam for 10 yrs. Very informative video. I used that 7 days free Omega, and going to sit in Alpha state for a bit until I understand the game more.

Plex equals like , and I figured this out a few years ago, but in very round numbers, a hundred million ISK equals one US dollar (approx) So a billion is ten bucks. So 24 bucks in Plex.

Good way of looking at it!

Nice! I was just thinking about the issue of managing accumulated SP on an account that I basically leave as Alpha but occasionally goes Omega. Now I have characters passing 5m training limit I realise the BEST thing is to save ALL SP until the character is over 5m SP. At which point the "free" training stops. So if you have used extra SP before this point, they have been wasted in a sense. Because you can still apply them over 5m SP to the alpha clone, if you have not spent them! So, really the best is to save them if possible folks, and just train Alpha clones to 5m SP first. o7

totaly agree with you, as a new player you should never try pay for the gameplay with isk, because its so much harder to make it with low skill points, and the game are supposed to be funn, not a jobb. later on when you learn different aspect of the game, and you into bit of marked trading, have some PI planets set up for passive inncome, you make 100-200 mill an hour from active ratting, maby producing some modules and so on, all those activities together just have the isk flowing inn, and in witch point the 2 bill isk you need for plex are not something you even really think about.

Another way people can go about it. They pay omega every 2nd or 3rd month with cash, and pay ISK for the other months. Like that you can save money and give yourself a breather for paying Plex for omega. It would be a way to go about it for casual players.

2.5b is not bad at all, 1 hour per day 100m is easy, play 2 hours only need to play 2 weeks for a whole month of sub. I dont understand how people cant plex 😂

I have been doing the grind and I agree with you Capt. If you can swipe a card, go ahead and do it. I'm a cheapskate so I just grind for it. It currently costs about 2.5 Bil to get the plex, which is a couple of months of grinding for me. But,, I enjoy the grind sometimes!

I got into Eve about 4 months ago with a lot of down time in those 4 months, and I just sit in my venture and mine veldspar for the most part, whilst doing irl stuff. I do so because I like the grind, I have recently hit 700m on my main character (use my alt to mine now, as I like my alt's name more lol and want to transition that to my main). I have done some relic and data sites, which easily got me half that 700m in about a week. Just started my first corp and look forward to learn how to manage that. Also have no intention of going omega on any of my accs. until they hit 5m skill points or I hit the 2.6b isk to plex it for one month. As always, JAKEL33T, Chloroken, Loru, and Yourself are the reason I now play Eve after backseating for a year or two. Love the content don't ever stop pls.

I believe in not letting something you love become a grind - in life, not just in eve. Some people love a hobby (e.g. photography) and try to make a career out of it, only to discover it can become a burden trying to make a living from the hobby. So it becomes a grind, and they lose the passion for the hobby. So I'm in line with your opinion to buy your omega time if plexing your account means a lot of hours grinding to do so. I'd hate to see someone get down on the game because they spend too much time trying to build up isk reserves rather then enjoying the fun elements of the game which draws them in.

As a vet playing from 2004. Plexing an account always becomes a 2nd job and will make people lose interest in Eve. Swiping your cc is the easiest way and allows you to just enjoy the game and play your way. You can save by buying omega packs and subscribing when ccp have sales. That being said. I feel omega has become too expansive. I want Eve online to succeed and not push players away because of high omega prices.

@@captainbenzie It is too expensive. CCP is sacrificing new players to their greedy push for MCT and alternate accounts. Both MCT and alting are concepts many players do not enjoy being the meta in the first place. So CCP is just driving out the future players of the game at their current price point. Veterans eventually do leave the game, and when they do, they will not be replaced. Heck, I've had multiple friends and veterans of Guild Wars 2 die over the years and a business model that does not replace those players will just seek to extract more from the existing players. MMO games are not pronounced 'dead' when they have no players left, but when they stop feeling alive. And this feeling is hastened when every map is just filling with one guy and hit alts rather than 3 players each making their own way in the world. 1 guy with 5 alts is a less diverse and engaged playerbase than 3 different players. $20 is a relative value. I know a significant portion of the playerbase isn't out there buying coffee for $5. Value to you is not value to everyone else. $20 to others is nothing and they would prefer to pay $500 a month just to not have you in it. So why not raise the bar to $500 a month?

@captainbenzie Don’t take me the wrong way :) . I have herd that comparison many time over my time in eve. It doesn’t hold up. People value stuff differently and that’s ok. The problem is eve online is that it’s a global game with people playing it from all over the world. Omega subscription is only in US , pounds and euro. So people out side these regions are at the mercy of exchange rates. I can only speak for Australians, it’s more like 6 to 7 cups of coffee ;) . I do believe if ccp was to create a cheaper tier of omega. More people would play (old vet to new players) . The cheaper tier could only have alpha training speeds. Make it that you pick combat or industrial roles. If you pick combat then you have access to all combat ships, skills and modules. If you pick industrial then you get industry ships , skill and modules. If ccp make more options it would open the game to more players.

If you can buy Omaga, BUY IT! the 8% sales tax on Alpha pilots will eat you alive, not counting the 2.5% broker fees...get your Main acc. established to where you can, not only plex your main you can plex alts and Multi box bringing in even more isk an hr. a jump clone in NullSec can be even more lucrative as long as you can move items to a trade hub.

I started playing Eve in 2006 (when Eve was hard) and the monthly cost is higher now than it was back then. I created a new player for PVE and I find that CCP has done very little to curb pirates that might destroy nicer ships for FW. Really looking at Astrox Imperium.

The best time to go omega is when the 2 conditions are met: > You enjoy the game enough to be willing to pay for it. > You can afford the omega price. Waiting until you have 5M SP on a new alpha account is only going to hinder your progression.

You failed to mention that a cap also exists after alpha injectors/daily log in’s. You can accumulate SP that’s unallocated still but once you hit 20mil SP or somewhere in that neighborhood you can no longer apply that SP.

Since everything in game is became more expensive(Looks like that 2 times as expensive as it was 4 years ago) but in game activities did not scale up in ISK reward, i can say that trying to make money for omega as new player simply isn't worth it.

Hard disagree that things haven't scaled. Back in 2012 I wasn't able to make nearly the kind of money I do these days. Activities and loot have absolutely scaled, just not as well since PLEX is essentially set in price by how much the most hardcore players can earn... And when so many in CERTAIN alliances are essentially not farming Nullsec, well...

3billion on avg it should be doable for those late-mid players that have already climbed over the hard part and have decent income

One of the problems with eve these days is that one account, paid or otherwise, just isnt enough. The game now carries a strong expectation that you run lots of accounts, sometimes all at once. Its never a good feeling when the guy across the way drops his five accounts on your head and murders you - and that isnt something that other games encourage.

Alpha pilots are limited in the skills they can train yes but they are also limited in the level of skills they can get to. Many important skills like weapons, shields, engineering and implants are limited to level 3 or less. This puts Alpha pilots at a serious disadvantage for PVP, especially solo PVP.

Yes, that's what I meant. It's still a good learning point though, and fleet up and you'll still have fun. Use Alpha as the game's trial and as a fallback, not a playstyle.

I played EVE from 2006 till 2010 and came back to play a month ago. I am staggered at how much CCP have monetised the game to get players money in so many ways. A little off putting really. Oh and the other thing I've noticed is the game is way less populated than it was back in the early days. I rarely see another player ship travelling around. At one point last week there were only 8000 or so logged in. EVE now seems a game that CCP tosses skill points at the players for nothing. If you wanted a long skill train you went on holiday for three weeks to get over the wait.

The price hike was def an L for sure and it pushed people away. With that being said I get at least about 30-40 hours a month out of Eve. For 20 bucks? That's a win in my book 1$ an hour is how I judge my video games now that I'm in my mid 30's. If you can't afford that, then you have bigger life priority's to take care of. I buy RPG games for anywhere from 10 bucks to 60 bucks. Just bought a whole trilogy for 15. That’s thousands of hours of gameplay *each*. 20 dollars per month is too much. @captainbenzie you’re not comparing the right things. You’ve got to compare with other video games that provide similar hours of gameplay. Baldur’s Gate 3 has coop and *endless* replayability and yet is only 60 dollars, one time price. Yes it’s a completely different style of game, but the difference in value is ASTONISHING

@@jamescerone sorry, you cannot tell me that how I choose to value something is wrong. Nor can I tell you how you value something is wrong. A coffee with a friend is $10 for 30 mins. It's a social experience. EVE is the same for me. So $20 a month is fine TO ME. As an example, I wish I could refund BG3. And Starfield. Did not enjoy either experience.

@@captainbenzie apologies, I’m not trying to tell you how to value your own interests. No hard feelings. What I’m trying to point out is that your comparisons are off; apples and oranges so to speak. As I said in another comment, most people view coffee as a tool for productivity in their real life (which in turn helps them earn a livable wage). Eve is a game, and while it’s of course a big hobby for many people (like you), you still have to remember that lots of people can’t even afford their hobbies in this time of growing economic inequality. So I’m comparing to other games. It doesn’t make a difference if you don’t like whichever examples I gave; the point is that they provide people who do like them with as many hours of fun as Eve for FAR less money. Eve may not be too expensive for you, but it is too expensive in general. Obviously some monthly payment is required, since it involves servers and continuing support. But 20 dollars is just too much. It’s barely even debatable IMO, again because we live in such an incredibly expensive world nowadays (in terms of basic living expenses). I’m a musician, which is my main hobby, and I can’t even afford that. Why should serious Eve hobbiests be similarly bilked out of their savings?

@@jamescerone that's a fair point, but I'd argue that gaming in general is a luxury. And whilst some folks will spend $20 a month on multiple long RPGs, or cinema tickets, or coffee with friends, or whatever makes them happy, some will choose to spend that $20 on multiple hours in New Eden with their friends there

Plexing accounts really only makes sense if you're running multiple accounts. Realistically if you're an adult and can't afford $20/month or $15 for three months, then you've got larger concerns than Eve. For the young bucks, literally go collect scrap metal one weekend a month and you'll be able to by 3 months of omega with a bit left over. 5-6 hours of work vs 100+ grinding isk for a newb.
