We had an exchange student from the US here a few years ago who wanted to go really fast on the Autobahn for once. We took him in a car that really does go 300 and drove to a good stretch where you can go that fast. The scene was very similar to your clip. Until 180 he was quite happy, at 230 he said it really was enough, beyond 250 he was begging for mercy... I don't think he wet himself, but sure came close... Not that we were "used to" driving that fast either, but we didn't let that show.. ;)

    Жыл бұрын

Yes, all the fastest conventional high speed trains (TGV, ICE, Shinkansen,...) have a maximum speed of around 320 km/h in regular operation. They can only go that fast on sections of the tracks rated for such speeds, so the limit is actually the tracks. The trains themselves could go way faster. The current speed record is held by the french TGV at 574.8 km/h, that's about 357 mph !!! So if you want to go really fast while relaxing and looking out the window... take the train!

After living in Germany for 6 years, I can say that it was not a difficult transition. Sure some things were awkward at first but my neighbors and most Germans I ran into were very forgiving as they could tell that I was making the effort. Its those that dont make an effort that have the most trouble and usually get accosted. One thing I wish you would have put in there is that the Polizei do NOT mess around, they will not argue or negotiate. Either you do what they tell you or you go to jail.

Hey! :) May I ask what your reason was to move to germany? I'm considering moving to america. I personally made a different experience with the police and the Polizei. The police in german is pretty distanced, cold*. I feel like they are pretty unfriendly too and do their jobs as if they just wanna get done with every case asap, as if people were some kind of paper work. I ran into a police officer in america. I did only once but this police officer actually cared about me, I could tell. He was being very friendly and just made it obvious that he seriously wanted to help me. Not sure if that's just a cultural thing but imo german police officers are not very sympathic

One day US Americans realize that they are getting ripped off with all that ice in the glasses I think the tradition of free refills came from someone who complained about a half empty glas. Just try it when you are back home. Get a normal drink with ice and an empty glas, now pour the drink into the empty glas without the ice and you see how much you really get for your money. 😉

It was so bad on one trip I went to the local big-box hardware store (basically a copy of Home Depot) to buy a fan. Which, of course, served no useful purpose for me after my trip as it was 220V. 😅 Worse was that those without AC, also did not have screens over the windows, so I was constantly being eaten alive by mosquitoes. All of that actually made me wonder about Germany being a 1st-World country. All of the rest I was more than happy with. Very much enjoyed taking the S-Bahn from just outside my hotel back to the airport. I taught myself to open beer bottles without an opener (not with my teeth 😅).

My dad was stationed in Germany from 1965 to 1967. I was 5, 6, and 7 years old while there. One day, I was twirling around in a little "whirlwind" next to the army post fence as little pieces of trash were lifted in the air by it. I watched a piece of trash flutter over the fence and land on the ground and then a little old German lady with a little "spear" stabbed it up and put it in a bag she was using to collect the trash along her side of the fence. That left a lifelong impression on me - don't litter. The shoulders of the roads over there at that time were spotless.

What? As an American, I've never had an issue with portions in Germany. Depending on what kind of food it is, it's usually impossible for me to finish it or it's even still a little more than I would normally have for a meal. In the US I usually eat a third of the plate and end up with two meals at home if I go out.

You see the difference between German and France when you look at the capital. When there is an Iron tower with 3 Levels (Eifel tower), and there is a Gate (Arc de Triomphe) with only one Passage you are in Paris, means France. When beside the Television Tower there is an Iron Tower with only one Deck (Funkturm), and the Gate in the middle of the town has 5 Passages (Brandenburger Tor) you are in Berlin. I know, these small differences, which are hard to recognize, make it difficult for foreigners to distinguish the individual countries in Europe...
