Thing is, I won a war with the losing side of a tech gap. I just had way more units, and the AI sucks at strategy...

This accurately depicts what a battle between medieval and modern armies would look like, and yet, Hollywood always shows modern armies defeating Aliens that have technology which makes us look like cavemen. Nice.

Defeating a technologically superior army is actually possible... You know how the states won independence against Britain, it being too costly to maintain a farway war. Anyways, as long as the aliens don't have technology that can nullify missiles, then earth does stand something of a chance. Also, this is not an accurate representation of a battle between medieval and modern armies. If it was, then that place would be bombed to hell before any troops even approached it. And a helicopter would not have shot a rocket at a ballista

Once had a random map with two continents and I had been spawned on one by myself. The world kept going without me and I wasn't discovered till the atomic age in my civilization and those other fuckers had barely discovered muskets. It was a slaughter. It was almost like one of those movies/games where an alien power was found with technology and I did a massive invasion involving tanks, jets, and of course giant robots.

thavidu78 i played on the hardest difficulty in Civ 5 and used the setting where the map is a "realistic recreation" of the real world. Needless to say since i played as American i was completely alone, and one of my cities wouldnt grow fast enough so i got stuck and then boom, ghandi discovered atomic bombs while i was learning how to use steam power. It was a quick ending from there on

oh definitely. I played a round today. I wanted to be alone or at least far away but I was a stones throw away from everyone. So I deicided to generally mind my own business. By the time I had my Artillery units and was going for a Domination victory, they were still just being weak. Only Rome had a slight edge thanks to me selling them a bunch of tech but that didn't help since I converted their second city and cut them off from the mainland

Achterhoek Games if utilised correctly and with the proper preparation, it is possible for a balista to take down a heli, bloody difficult, but still possible If they could have got it loaded quickly enough to fire it, they could have easily used it to take down a heli or two. What you have to remember is the balista is basically firing either a large stone, or a gigantic spear with a metal point, with the point alone weighing several tonnes. Either of those munitions if they land a direct hit, would have the required force to pluck a heli from the air. This is due to the weight issue associated with flight. The heavier you are, the greater force is needed to get you off the ground, eventually you hit a ratio where it just becomes impossible, even with mechanical assistance. As such, all flying vehicles must be built lightweight, but this also makes them incredibly flimsy, so any kind of weapon that even has a hope in hell of landing a hit, and is larger than a small arms weapon, is basically a threat, and thus can be termed an AA (Anti Air) weapon. Flying vehicles like helicopters and planes, rely less on armour, and more on speed and manoeuvrability to keep themselves alive

For the U.S. attack helicopters are not usually deployed in areas were we don't already have air superiority also most pilots have quick reaction times they might be able to dodge some large projectiles I personally think they should have used tanks like Abrams no catapult is making a dent in that armor
