Nope, d4 is more positional, e4 generally tends to be more aggressive but there are exceptions, but generally d4 is more passive than e4.

Of course she's not on Magnus's level -- the only person you could compare him to is Kasparov -- but that doesn't mean losing to Polgar would ruin his reputation. This video is just garbage, gets everything wrong from Judit's given name to the literal first two moves of the game (the guy called d4 Nf6 the King's Indian, lmao).

@VeryLogicalGuy I didn't bring it up, but I think you're misunderstanding a couple of things here. First of all, ratings in the Elo system are relative rather than absolute -- you can't compare Elo across eras. I would not say Radjabov, Karjakin, or Giri have ever been stronger than peak Fischer or Karpov, and I'd hope you agree with me. Judit peaked at #8 in the world. Second, nobody's trying to prove that Polgar is better than or equal to Carlsen in skill. The couple of blitz games Judit has won against Magnus do however show that she can at least compete with Magnus at a super GM level, even past her prime. A loss to her isn't threatening Magnus's reputation.

@VeryLogicalGuy bro definitely hates women. She peaked at #8 worldwide before Magnus was even a GM. She was one of only like 15 Super Grandmasters that year. She has beat Magnus in official rapid games twice. So she’s not the greatest chess player of all time, but she’s top 100 of all time at least.

Magnus won the 2014 World Blitz Championship in Dubai with 17/21, and Judit Polgar finished with 13/21, still in the top 32/113 entrants. They met in the 14th round of 21 rounds, and the game was timed to 3 minutes each. The video is a bit misleading at times. It's not Classical Chess, in case you were maybe wondering why they looked so rushed, and she wasn't the last person he played to claim the title.

So I guess I’ll cover the important details. 0:25 A GM losing to a mistake does not ruin their reputation, even if they happen to be a world champion 0:31 Not D5, but ok 0:35 Usually called the King’s Indian/Indian game but close enough 1:06 Doesn’t really break opening principles, the knight is being developed, with the option to go to an outpost on b4 or chill on c7, this move justifies the pawn to c6 move, and is overall a solid move 1:16 Queen to c7, not c6 1:20 This is a bland comment likely generated from looking at an eval bar and pretending to understand a position, but I won’t judge, the position is essentially equal with white having a space advantage Now for the more important details 1:33 It seems like much now. (jokes aside, pawn h5 to h4 can be played whenever black wants to, and it is played immediately) 1:38 Queen d2 does create a battery, but that battery is likely not the important part of the move, Queen d2 makes space for the f rook, and that f rook can now move to make space for the king, and that means that Magnus’s king has an escape planned in the event of a serious attack 1:47 The point of this move is likely to improve the attack on the kingside, not trade pieces 2:03 Taking the knight with a pawn does not win the bishop, the bishop can go to e1. An inactive bishop is traded for a good knight, but black is still losing of course. 4:45 The b rook has no squares to go to and can at best be traded away for a bishop, which is losing. If the rook stays there, knight to c4 picks off the rook, also losing for black. I’m glad this is over, I regret writing this.

Don't be confused with the different ELO ratings U see on the internet. On FIDE rating 2750 is Top10 in the world even nowadays. Magnus has the highest and its 2853 (the only one this moment above 2800). Hikaru has 2775, Anish Giri 2768, Aronian 2745. The best woman has 2628. Btw. neither of them was on peak in 2014. Judith was far away from that.

Both great players and it was in the balance for some time, the thing with blitz though is that it's very easy to play one move that isn't great and the whole game can come crushing down, Magnus slowly but surely turned the game in his favour and found some brilliant ideas to finish it off.

Plenty of people could/would latch onto it and it would tarnish his reputation; but it would not tarnish how he presents himself. It has nothing to do with him and everything to do with how the world perceives and treats people. That said the high tier chess community would just see it as a praiseworthy win by Polgar rather than a humiliation of Carlsen. It would be podcasters who don't even care about chess who make a big deal about it.

Knight to a6 actually doesn't go against ALL chess principles. IMO, one of the principles in chess is not to mistake these principles as necessary developments, but rather as a helping hand to understand how to use your pieces. There are certainly situations in place where principles don't apply anymore, because of the situation.

Beside the common opening move 1. d5 the first move by Polgar (1. ... Nf6) is NOT necessarily King's Indian. We also can get Nimzo-Indian or Queen's Indian for example. In addition Na6 from Polgar is a very common move in the KID. Why so surprised?

Idk man based on this game I'd bet it's closer to 2-7-1 with the 7 being their chance of drawing. Maybe 3-6-1 or 3-5-2; but either way I think they are closer to even than not. Even if it's just a 5% difference.

For them that's like a 5% difference. Plenty of room for their unique "personalities" to manifest --- by that I mean, everyone has certain positions they know better than others. Not everyone can be the best at all possible positions. There are likely unique situations where her playing style might give her the advantage.

It's not a surprise that Magnus at his peak crashed an old Judith. What surprised me the most is that she did not know of this trap of the rook. It happens a lot in rook endgames. Even Ra6 was a mistake because it gives the tempo to white. Also she did not see the entrapment of the knight? Really? This is something that any 1000 Elo player knows. I can only assume that she does not play endgames very well, which is really strange for a top ranking player.

To be fair Peak Magnus is beating anyone, even peak Judith🤷🏾‍♂️ and as far as I know, she has won against him, in blitz but never in a classic game. But I did expect more during this game😂

​@@bello808I'd love to see a classical game of Peak Judie and Peak Magnus. Judit was an absolute viper, would make for an interesting match (Magnus would likely win, but Just would fare better than most)

Judit(udit) has beat him and 11 other World champions. She's super aggressive and made world champions literally cry and cheat when she was a teenager. Herself and Tal are my favorite style of play. They don't rely on theroy as much as they create with forced aggression

You may not appreciate this but domination is much more important to a healthy male psyche than a healthy female psyche. Chess is ultimately a metaphor for war. If women can wage war on par with men, then what's the point of being a man? Why not let women fend for themselves? Suddenly society breaks apart and it's the year 20XX.

@@abominationdesolation8322 I think you missed what I said. “His chess reputation ruined FOREVER.” Forever is a really long time, never mind the fact he is arguably the greatest chess player of all time. And who knew the only point in being a male is being able to wage war better than women? Hell, Dylan Mulvaney just won “woman of the year.” Looks like men are even better at being women than women.

Judith is good, I can't lie, but she just can't compare to Magnus. Even in her prime. They're not on par at all. Even after beating him at 2rapid blitz games, he's won 11. And she's lost every classical chess game they've played together 🤷🏾‍♂️

You're talking about what's "the point of being a man" if you can't wage war as well as a woman (as if there haven't been hundreds of millions of men who haven't been in war) while I'm talking about the fallacious thinking in the video. What's the next sexist comment? - what's the point of being a woman if you can't cook as well as a man? She barely won only 1 game against him. Do you call THAT "defeat" a world champ?? Please. Be real All in all, truth remains: she never became World champion against male players, so... calm down

@@deleatur absolutely. Winning a game against a world champion is a phenomenal accomplishment. Winning a game against 11 is incredible (I have no clue if that number is actually true). No doubt she has a losing record against them over all their games, but she is still an incredible talent. I think some people are sticking up for her because the video acts like Magnus’ reputation would be ruined “forever” if he lost to a woman, which is pretty shitty to say.

@@vietta6424 Dude, Magnus defeated Karpov and played then-reigning world champion Kasparov to a draw at his first chess tournament at 13. Karpov was impressed with young Magnus playing at that level at that age while Kasparov simply shook Magnus' hand and left rather quickly.
