I am a Pole, and this song reminds me of my great-grandfather. a non-commissioned officer of the Polish Army.Although he lived and fought in a different time than the song describes, because in World War II in 1939 in Poland.but after the liberation of the German POW camps in 1945, he joined the American Army. And he was even supposed to go to the Japanese front. But he returned to his homeland in 1946. And this song fits me perfectly with his return from the war after 7 long years ...

My favorite American Civil War Fact: In 1861, a Bald Eagle was captured by Chief Sky of the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe Tribe in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He ended up trading that Bald Eagle to a Captain in the Wisconsin 8th Volunteer Regiment. The bird was named Old Abe, in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. Old Abe got his own special perch and was carried into battle alongside the American flag and Wisconsin flag! The Confederates called him "that Damn Yankee Buzzard"! After 4 years of combat, Old Abe was given permanent residence at the Wisconsin Capitol Building until he died. A replica of Old Abe now stands watch over the Wisconsin State Assembly! In 1921, the 101st Airborne Division was stationed in Wisconsin, where the division adopted Old Abe as it's now famous insignia! It's also where they got their nickname: "The Screaming Eagles!"

When Johnny comes marching home again, Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give him a hearty welcome then, Hurrah! Hurrah! Oh, the men will cheer the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out, And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. Get ready for the Jubilee, Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give the hero three times three, Hurrah! Hurrah! Well, the laurel wreath is ready now To place upon his loyal brow, And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. In eighteen hundred and sixty-one Hurrah! Hurrah! That was when the war begun, Hurrah! Hurrah! In eighteen hundred and sixty-two Both sides were falling to, And we'll all drink stone wine, When Johnny comes marching home. And we'll all drink stone wine, When Johnny comes marching home. In eighteen hundred and sixty-three, Hurrah! Hurrah! Old Abe, he ended slavery Hurrah! Hurrah! In eighteen hundred and sixty-three Old Abe, he ended slavery And we'll all drink stone wine, When Johnny comes marching home. And we'll all drink stone wine, When Johnny comes marching home In eighteen hundred and sixty-four, Hurrah! Hurrah! Abe called for five hundred thousand more, Hurrah! Hurrah! In eighteen hundred and sixty-five, They talked rebellion--strife; And we'll all drink stone wine When Johnny comes marching home. And we'll all drink stone wine When Johnny comes marching home.

My Great-Great-Grandfather was part of the British Army during WW2 (He was Originally Australian) and the first Place he served was at the Battle of Singapore in 1941, as we all know it ended in a British Surrender to the Japanese and my Grandfather was stuck in the Burma POW camp for 4 years until the Japanese were Nuked. During his time as a POW, he was able to steal 2 Revolvers from some Camp Officers, he said that those 2 Revolvers were his Biggest Treasures in Life and nothing else was on par with it. Still can't imagine how hard it must've been to get those 2 revolvers

The 1st Minnesota changed the course of the decisive Battle of Gettysburg. Desperate to make time for reinforcements to arrive, on Gettysburg's second day, July 2, 1863, General Winfield Scott Hancock sent the 262 members of 1st Minnesota to halt a Confederate assault. They succeeded in capturing a Confederate flag and held the line for the Union, but all but 47 of them were killed, wounded, or captured. The regiment lost 17 more facing Pickett's Charge to end the battle the next day.

The men will cheer and the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home. The old church bell will peal with joy Hurrah! Hurrah! Get ready for the Jubilee, Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give the hero three times three, Hurrah! Hurrah! The laurel wreath is ready now To place upon his loyal brow And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home. Let love and friendship on that day, Hurrah, hurrah! Their choicest pleasures then display, Hurrah, hurrah! And let each one perform some part, To fill with joy the warrior's heart, And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home.

I’m not American but this military tune is amazing it really captures the spirt of the civil war
