When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (Hymn 290) - Hymnology (Official Video)
Музыка
1. When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ, my God;
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.
3. See, from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down;
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
4. Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
Words: Isaac Watts

His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads o’er His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me. Thank you so much for your wonderful hymns. I am blessed every time I hear. May I request the background of the songs and you sing these songs. Is it the Crowning Day, Ring the Bells of Heaven, and When we all get to Heaven. Thank you so much. Appreciated..God bless😇🙏
To think, the symphony in Heaven is infinitely more beautiful than this

All hymns are meant for the body of Christ, His church. Your musicians can definitely use this hymn as a way to bring glory to Him during your time of worship through song.
Is there anyway to buy a cd of these being sung? I found just a few songs to download on the website. (less than 10) I'd prefer a CD if possible but can only find lots of sheet music when I would love these exact singings of the hymnals.

There are no CDs but songs can be purchased through Spotify, CDBaby, Apple music and other streaming sites.
I haven’t heard a melody to this hymn that wasn’t Hamburg or Rockingham. Which melody is this, I see it says “Traditional Scottish Melody” but does it have a name?

It’s a traditional Scottish melody that took particular hold in churches in Appalachia which typically sing this melody instead of the more popular melodies.

Can these hymns sung by you folks specifically, be purchased on iTunes? I have the ShepCon men singing downloaded…would love these.

Hymnology Season 1 is available. Season 2 coming soon.
Why is the original tune changed

That is a good question. There is no original tune, as Watts was a poet, but never composed tunes for his hymns. These lyrics have been sung to several tunes throughout history. hymnary.org/text/when_i_survey_the_wondrous_cross_watts
The other tune to these words is much better.....more humbling
