🚲 When I Said Cargo, I Meant It (1000W, 48V, Hub Motor) [P2]

Putting the CARGO in cargo e-bike!
In this video series, I'm going to show you how I turned a bicycle I found in the garbage into a cargo electric bike.
This is part two, where I'll show you how I started fabricating the steel "subframe". This bike is aluminum and if I want to weld to it I'll have to attach some pieces that are steel so I can weld to them.
I'll create a seat post extension that I can then widen that will also become part of the seat structure. From there two side rails will follow parallel to the ground and meet up with the brackets I'll make for the front of the bike. I'll drill holes in the front tubes of the frame to allow the brackets to be bolted, this will give me a nice attachment point for the rails to be welded to the brackets.
I'll then start the beginnings of the seat that I'll be making from scratch, this will be a more moto/moped style seat as I find these much more comfortable than traditional bicycle seats, plus they look a bit cooler. I also start creating my own torque arms to reinforce the dropout area. This is less about adding torque arms to the bike and more about creating a robust fixture point to support the rear part of the side rails. The cargo bins are going to be mounted here so it's important that they are strong enough and supported enough to handle the extra weight of cargo.
Metal is very expensive, I was lucky enough to have found a full shopping cart in the trash which I have started cutting up to utilize the pieces. Otherwise this build would have been much more expensive just due to the amount of metal that I needed. I'm still considering weight at this point so I'm going to as much strength as I can get but also without adding an ungodly amount of weight. It's still quite heavy, but it's a bit hard to get around that when you're making a cargo ebike.
Lastly I found an old battery strap from one of my other ebike frames that I wasn't using at all. This fit like a perfect puzzle piece into the "triangle" area, even though this is a step through bike.
This is part one of many from transforming this bike into a usable and capable electric cargo bike.

I was a partner in a real estate business, we bought old buildings and demo'd and built them out, and rented them to businesses.. I was a hands on guy..Seen alot of grinder accidents, I always have the death grip on the grinder..There are so many different uses, and just as many ways to make a mistake with a grinder..Galvanized steel is the worst for welding, it pops molten metal all over you, and the toxic smoke is brutal..I've welded metal to a shopping carts before, making them into tool carts, wasn't fun, but they worked so good for moving tools and materials through big buildings..I like the bike, lots of potential there, nice job..

100% man, I've been spoiled with welding fresh metal mostly. Grinders are extremely dangerous, all it takes is one kick from them and it can be very bad. Thanks for your thoughts and insights, much appreciated. This project gets out of hand I can say that for sure. 🍻

Quick and dirty you never quick-and-dirty anything you take forever😆🖤 won't be surprised you make a 3 part😂... the angle grinder is only fun when you take the guard off😆 I want a free shopping cart😮

Yes, it's very hard for me to do things quick and dirty, I just want to improve everything 😅 Oh I think this build is like 7 or 8 parts really, it gets crazier. I have never taken the guard off, I'm already too dangerous with it on 🚀 Well, I still have a lot left, but most likely will be using those parts for future projects. Thanks man!!

This build is gonna be awesome, and super practical! I can't wait to see it finished up, and I like the fact that you don't do anything half way (even when you planned to lol) because that's sometimes where the best things come from! I know you're not just an ebike channel, but your build series are awesome, and inspiring! I'll for sure be staying tuned personally!

Thanks so much man, it means a lot 🍻 I swear I will do a "quick n' dirty" build someday where I duct tape a battery to a frame, but my mind just goes and goes and I always want to improve on everything. I will almost always have some ebike build going on just because I enjoy them, so even if I take a break from them for a while, there will be more on the way you can rest assured. The build I have planned after my motorcycle is done is the craziest ebike yet and it will be one I think a lot of people will want to watch. I appreciate the encouragement and positivity, thanks so much man!

@@hightech-lowlife even the look of a quick and dirty build would be cool! Like have everything look like you slapped it together in 10 minutes with stuff you found in an abandoned hardware store to out run the zombies would look so awesome! I can't wait for this post motorcycle build you teased though! Idk how it can get much more insane than the v9.0 but I'm here for it! Thanks for sharing your work and creations, it really is an inspiration, on top of being just flat out entertaining! @@bbllrstv13 I swear I will do one in the future, this one should have been it, but I went overboard 😅Oh it's going to be way crazier, I don't think I even have ideas for anything that could be "more" than it, although I may have one left in me after the next one, at some point there is only so much power you can put on something so small. Thanks so much man, I hope to increase my upload frequency to weekly again, but it's a lot to stay on top of. Thanks!!

@@hightech-lowlife haha well "overboard" or not your builds are awesome! Yeah I don't think I'd want to go faster than maybe 40 tops on a bicycle! Lol. Too much can happen, and people already don't see bikes when they're only going like 10 unfortunately! Well tbh, idc how often you upload, I'm just here for it! @@bbllrstv13 Thanks so much man! Yeah, I think 30+ is too much to be safe on a bicycle for sure, that's about the MPH where the wind really has a larger effect and you need more and more power for only small incremental gains in performance. I appreciate it dude, thank you!
