You'd be shocked by what wealthy and contemporary French women (and eventually English women, since as went French culture, so went the world back then) were wearing; wonderfully scant and barely layered, diaphanous muslin and linen dresses that accentuated curves and with a front so open that it might even raise a few eyebrows today. It was a direct rejection of French aristocratic couture after the Revolution, and ushered in a pretty vibrant cultural dynamic of vivid colorings and self-expression. So many dramas and the like dress up the people in either Rococo or Baroque styles
