You'd be shocked by what wealthy and contemporary French women (and eventually English women, since as went French culture, so went the world back then) were wearing; wonderfully scant and barely layered, diaphanous muslin and linen dresses that accentuated curves and with a front so open that it might even raise a few eyebrows today.
