So the answer is "can he hang a door" is dependent on if the van doors can be opened and be started/moved!
I've been a builder for many years and have seen quite a fair bit of sheds. The plans in ryan's package kzread.infoUgkxB7IXYxLzb_Ichhe45zM3Im5xfEiSp9vB have some of the nicest looking sheds i've seen in a while.
Scott you inspired me as a carpenter to go off by myself and to do all my own work and stop sub contracting. this September Im officially working full time for myself with all my own work! so if youre ever in the south of the UK i owe you a beer/coffee?

Scott, little tip for those handle screws.... lock it into your power drill and then place a hacksaw against the Desired length and let the drill do the rest👍🏻

Scott and Paul, even more of a tip! You can get small bolt cutters that will easily and cleanly cut the screws, if they don’t have the notches like in this video then you put the screw in your drill and run it along a file to get rid of the burs. I used to build hospitals and apartment buildings and that was a life saver!
Glad to see even on the a day that doesn't go to plan there are still smiles. Great work as always Scott and Jess!
Now there’s a novelty Scott, a joiner sorting his home joinery. Thanks for the latest exciting episode.👍👍

He did a great job of it, but like most builders he obviously doesn't do it enough (prehung doors are the norm now) to do it the most efficient way. I was forced to do it a lot because my small town suppliers in Tokoroa didn't stock prehung doors. My process is as follows: I first cut the vertical jambs exactly the same length, leaving the offcut for later. Then I set the door on it's edge (my saw horse has a way of holding it like that) and I make marks at 150, 990 and 1780. Then I bring out my router jig that I made, and place it on my marks and buzz out the hinge slots, which takes about 30 seconds. Then I quick clamp a jamb to the door with 3mm overhanging at the top end, and mark EXACTLY where the hinge slots are. Unclamp and repeat the router process on the jamb. Then I pre drill the screw holes and mount all the hinges to the door and jamb. Then I lay the door on the saw horses and I measure abd cut the head jamb, which is door width plus 2x3mm plus 2x jamb thickness, a couple of extra mm doesn't hurt. Then I glue, pre drill and screw the jamb head to the hinge jamb so the head jamb sits on TOP of the hinge jamb and is screwed into the end of it. I then carefully repeat the process with the lock jamb, and this is the only time I need to set the gap between the door and the jamb. And it's ready to install. Its much easier and better to install the head jamb on top, not between the vertical jambs. Mitering jambs should be avoided unless its a fancy one piece. I also mark using a knife and try not to rely on my tape measure because I don't like fighting to get the hinges on because I'm slightly off. Builders pencils can throw measurements off a lot, and the finished product is seen. My process takes about 15 minutes if my tools are out, and my results are usually superior to the factory prehung doors. It's cheaper than a prehung too, but only because I'm good at it. Oh and the key to fast routing with a jig is to get a 12.7mm router bit that's got a bearing above the cutter. They are difficult to find in NZ for some reason, but are available in the crappy Ryobi router jig kit. Throw away that jig, it's not accurate, it's meant for American hinges and it only works on doors not door jambs. It will however give you the idea of how the jig should work. My jig is just two pieces of wood fixed together at right angles with a 90mm long hole in it the same size as the hinge mortise. I just place it on the door and hold onto it firmly. No clamps required. Unfortunately the art of door hanging is going by the wayside. But if you're a carpenter who does a lot of older home renovations, and you're driven to get the absolute best quality possible, doing it yourself is better and sometimes the only way imo.
You don't need to cut the hardware screws, those aren't cut slots, those are scores so you can just snap the screws at those points using two sets of pliers.

It depends. That used to reliably be the case but these days, so many of the included-screws that looked like the ones Scott had will just bend inconsistently. They don't have scored sections, they just have gaps in the thread. Even using side-cutters can be a mission on those ones.

“Plumb”, I believe, is spelt with a ‘b’ - from ‘Plumbus’, the Latin for lead, when Plumb bobs were made from lead.

"He might be hanging doors, but can he fix a car alarm?"....just kidding:-D
Turning up to save the day was worth a kiss! 🤗
07:33 - 'plumb' - from the Latin plumbum meaning lead (the metal), and Old French 'plumb' referring to a sounding lead being a small weight made of lead attached to a string and suspended vertically to show trueness.
Matt Risinger was just showing a new device "Door Stud" to help with door hanging. They looked like they made the job easier, enough so that even the Bentley driver might be able to hang a door.

Im a cabinet maker/installer and typically we just use flush cutters to cut those screws to size, usually works pretty well. Great vid as usual Scott.
Good evening from Scotland. Another great video.
Hey Scott those "Cut slots" in the screws you used for the door handle are actually designed to be cut using your carpenters pliers. Funnily enough it works really well, give it a go next time!
I liked it when Jess was the cameraman, you could see Scott gleefully explaining his day job. Possibly laying the ground for more tools
Loved this type of video just Watching sped up footage of you working. Paired with the song, it was a very chill video of you making a door. Always a great day when you upload.

Great door hang SBC!😎
Hey Scott! Thanks for another exciting video! Got a good tip for screw trimming. Use a pair of decent miniature bolt cutters. No sparks and super quick. Nothing else needed if they have the thread seperation bits... If you have to cut through the thread, pop the screw in your drill chuck and run it full speed while you file with a bastard file at 45° to deburr the thread. Hope it's useful for anyone.
You've made the best of a frustrating day, and maintained your humor. 👍 Seeing Jess show up in that puffy jacket makes this sticky heat in NA all the more oppressive!

Ok, that alarm on your car was crazy. What a time for that to happen, but least you were at your container and not as someone’s house. Gotta let us know how getting a new alarm turns out; as interested to know how “easy” it is to get replaced. Door looks good, and definitely better than having a hole w/ water heater making noise all the time👍🏻

Yo Scott. Those handle screws can just be snapped. Use 1 pair of pliers to hold the section of screw you want to keep. Use a 2nd pair of pliers to wiggle and snap the waste off.

This as well as just nipping them with a sturdy pair of linesman’s. I don’t have strong hands by any means but my Milwaukee linesman pliers will chop those all day long with minimal effort. I’d imagine some Knipex or similar would do it even easier.
Lol...I have the same coffee storage cylinder.
🤚🏻 ready made doors usually stacked vertical but usually end up with a lean when others removed,,, hence the warping/bowing. Sometimes you can lean them against a wall with bowing side outwards & while it aclimatises to the house/heat the bow will revert, but don't leave it too long!
Well, the day was interesting. It is fascinating that you have kept your calm: My car can not be opened. What can I do? I can still make a door.
Scott, the handle screws are snap screws, can be snapped at them points rather then cutting
Pro tip: there’s a cutter for cabinet pull screws on most electrical wire stripper pliers. 👍
Build something on every continent ? You’re welcome to help my partner and I with a 1897 Victorian Weatherboard in Melbourne when the travel bubble opens again. Depends if you consider Australia a continent or part of Oceania! I am keen to see what you build in Antartica though, maybe something at a research station ?
Drives a nice van (when immobilizer works), but can he hang a door!! Hope the alarm repair not too expensive!
Good video as always. One comment from an admitted coffee snob. Please buy whole beans and at least a cheap grinder, mate. Good to use an sealed container but as soon as you unseal it, ie open it, all that flavor will dissipate into your lovely Auckland air. Cheers and keep those exciting episodes coming :)
I would recommend the Viper alarm, it vibrates the key fob up to 1.6km away if the alarm is going off. It can start your vehicle too if you add an extra module. I have it installed in a Hiace as well
You say new alarm, I hear, you need a new van😅
You really need to get a decent coffee grinder to go with all your flash coffee gear, makes a world of difference 😃
The bottom panel would have been a nice use for a connector called 'Button Fix'. Peter Millard has a Video about it if I'm not mistaken.
Stayed so composed when the alarm was playing up, I would have lost it haha
Long story short time for a new van!
Ahh apartment life - you may not have a hole in the living room anymore, but you still have a microwave!
He might not drive a bentley but he can for sure hang a door!
Nice demo Scott, I notice different width on architrave, is there reason why? As you normally do your other jobs the same same lol
You're as bad as me. Every rental I had I nearly finished up renovating. I'd say to the owner can I fix this or that I'll pay for it and do the work. They normally say yes go for it. I just hate things that don't work or look daggy. Then I'd move and start again. Even though they were rentals it was still my home to come back to every night.
That coffee ☕ 🤤🤤
If you cant cut out side, bolt cutters are a good alternative to a grinder.

Nice job remaining calm and still getting your work done through all the adversity of the van problems. I just finished making a couple doors/jambs for a remodel I am currently working on. One of my favorite things to do and customers always seem impressed by that. Question: At 8:59 did you slip in a shot of a UFO and not comment on it at all? 🤔 Interesting... Haha
