Hello. I'm in Guyana, South America,. I enjoy your videos. What you call Roselle, we call Sorrel. Very popular around Christmas time as a drink. We remove the seeds and soak the flesh in hot water for 24 hours. You can add cloves and some cinnamon to spice it up. Then sweeten to taste and serve cold. Very refreshing. You can also make sorrel wine too if you are adventurous. to keep sorrel year round, you can de-seed and dehydrate the flesh then vacuum seal.

Other way to spice it is adding ginger while cooking. Let it cool, add ice cubes and sweetener. It's delicious too.

Most Caribbean Islands use sorrel also. Ginger gives it a nice flavor. It's also called hibiscus. 🇹🇹 🇹🇹

Asia, roselle can be used for tea, syrup and even wine. The plant is a perennial in zones 9 thru 12.

Hi Asia ,in Jamaica Roselle is called Sorrel we use it to make our Christmas drink amongst other things ,now try to let the Roselle open up like a flower that's when they are really ready for harvest it also has seed pods inside that you can harvest and put to dry to plant again.

As a subscriber, can't remember if I've already shared this basil preservation tip with you that gives flavor and texture of fresh basil. But since you have so much, I find this process easy to do, and doesn't take up much space in the freezer. Pull or cut leaves off bunches of basil and drop the bowl full of washed basil in boiling water for 15 or so seconds. Transfer to ice water bowl. Squeeze out water or put in salad spinner. Place basil in small pieces of plastic wrap and roll into cigar shapes that fit in quart freezer bags. Throughout cold seasons, pull out what you need, and chop (or not) for sauces, etc. I also grate directly onto garlic bread before baking. You can also grate directly on prepared foods to add fresh basil flavor.

I feed my marigolds to my chickens. I read it deepens the color and nutrition of the yolk. Other than that, I am just happy they keep some bugs at bay for the garden.

Hello love your videos. If I can say I’ve been grow/planting marigolds since I was a child. Once the flower head wither away you can save them allow to dry out completely. They become seeds to grow for next year. As a child we would put them in brown paper bags and kept in a cool dark dry place. In the spring we would open the head just with our fingers and boom plant in soil and watch them grow. Thanks again for your videos. I love to garden and was going through and you came up. I liked what I saw and I decided to subscribe a month ago. Take care

I love your energy. I have one little raised garden that I had jalapeño peppers and red peppers in. I got one harvest out of them, then they died because it got so hot here in Arizona and I think I wasnt watering properly. I am gonna try and get more pots to begin fall planting. I love the taste of roselle leaves. The tea from the roselle flowers sweetened with liquid stevia is like natures Kool aid.

Asia, why did you uproot the Sorrell when it is obviously still in bloom? By November, there would be so much more to harvest from the plant. This plant is so revered in my country for Christmas. Plus, this is just my opinion. Why throw away so much food... chicken or no chicken 😮😢

Hi 👋🏾! I needed the space for fall planting and there are also have four more plants in the garden. I don’t feel like I’m throwing away food because my chickens are eating it.

I watched you pull up pepper plants and mentioned throwing them in the compost. Peppers take a long while to grow from seed to production. I thought I'd mention that you can over winter those peppers in your green house, after you dig them up. Just trim the tops back to where you have only one main Y in the branching. Pot them up, water them and tuck them away. If it gets real cold, they could be carried indoors temporarily, but then can be returned to your green house. You will get a jump on production the following Spring. Works well with Eggplants too and even some cherry tomatoes. I do this every year. Zone 8 Texas

Thats so funny about your hen- once I was clipping a hens wings and she still kept getting out. So I watched her a bit- she was crawling out through a loose spot under the fence😂. Here I clipped her wings for nothing.

I just wanted to say that I love your videos and what you have done and are doing with you garden and how you've come such a long way since 2020. I work for a farm but on the marketing side, and have always wanted to start my own little garden. Watching your videos has truly been inspiring. I love how easy-going you are and how you are so generous with information, it makes feeling a humanitarian connection with you effortless. I often try to share whatever wealth of information I can with our patrons at farmer's market. I feel that sharing with the world the simple little things they can do to make our food supply more sustainable on our own without depending on big corporations that go through so much food waste and compensate it with high food prices...anyway, my comment got a little lengthy but I just wanted you to know that you have a lot of respect from all over the world. Make a salad with the marigolds they are edible. You can also make pesto. That’s delicious with your basil.. and you just need pinenuts Parmesan cheese, a little bit of garlic in the house, olive oil, and lots of lots basil . Darling You are so sweet and inspiring. And some thing you might absolutely love is to keep some of these insects away from your lovely crops. I’ve been watching Robby and Gary in Southern California and she likes to use TULLE you know like poodle skirts and wedding veil type material rodents feel like it’s a trap and they won’t mess with it and then it’s so finally woven that other insects can’t get in!!!!

Wow, the rosell did great! I love hibiscus tea, especially iced - which I believe is made from rosell hibiscus blossoms. Yummy! 😋 😍 Definitey do the research, as you said, because it can lower blood pressure... I'm not sure how much is safe to drink. It seems to have lots of other benefits too! No worries about responding to comments... I would never expect it. I bet most of your viewers understand how busy life gets!

That's a good days work! Watching the results of removing the roots will be interesting. About watering the empty beds, I heard that the good organisms that live in the soil need the moisture. I think that keeping them alive is how even dead soil is being rejuvenated because it improves each season as the organisms are able to do what they do.

A freeze dryer is a good graduation present for one's self once the learn how to dry using heat well enough and basic caning techniques. I know i have picked up hobbies and put the down and spent too much on them. At least that is what I am telling myself because i want one so bad lol.

In the Caribbean sorrel makes a delicious beverage that's tasty and has a lovely deep cranberry color. Keep on growing and inspiring with your awesome videos.

Rosella flowers can be harvested when the petals start wilting and falling off, leaving behind deep red coloured calyces.

Your posts are so fun and informative. How knowledgeable and practical you are makes gardening seem easy. Even though we all know it isnt! Your backyard is an oasis!

I Boil the Roselle flower With ginger root, cinnamon and star anise. Let it steep. Then I sweetened with agave. Very yummy and good for you. 😊

I have square grow bags but the top part folds in and dirt settles no matter how high I fill. yours look like they stand up well

I don't have space in my backyard, but I'm very happy and inspired by ur love of gardening. I do a small flower garden in front.

In Jamaica we call those rosell "Sorrell ". We would boil water and then at to the water to make a drink or even wine. Sometimes make a candied sorrel paste.

Deadheading your marigolds will definitely keep the blooms coming and that's what you want for your garden. Yes, I don't like the smell of hem either, however, bugs do! They can help you keep those worms at bay as well. The prettiest marigold blooms can be used on cakes and pastries and crafts during fall harvest (El Dia de Los Muertos specifically!). But my grandma grew them all over her garden and it kept pests away very well. Oh, and she used to send us out to collect yellow margarine tubs that she set out in her cucumber, cantaloupe and squash plants bed. The worms are attracted to the yellow thinking they are blooms and get trapped in the bowl. It's creepy and gross but it works! All the best to you and your abundant space Asia. Hey Asia! You did great pulling out your summer plants. I’m slowly, but surely doing the same. This year I grew my peppers in one of my raised beds. I’m going to do like you did this year and grow them all inside grow bags next year so that during this summer/fall transition, I can scoot those peppers to the side and start my fall garden. 😂 I’m still getting tons of pepper so I won’t complain. Hi from Australia! I don’t think we consume the standard marigolds or they taste horrible. The medicinal marigold is Calendula which is a different plant but is common name ‘pot marigold’ has caused confusion. Great to find another urban edible gardener. 👋 Kayleen

21:52 marigolds are good as perimeter plants to help distract pests, same with lavender, basil and thyme. If you ever start growing fruit trees they are great for the base of them to help keep the tree roots moist.

Enjoying your videos. There are different kinds of marigolds, the most medicinal one is calendula aka pot marigold. Please do your research prior to ingesting any plant and always refer to the botanical names.

Make cucumber juice with them. Blend up with water, strain the pulp, then squeeze fresh lime juice in and add sugar (optional) . Delicious The chickens can have the pulp

What kind of chickens do you have? I've heard there are only a few types that lay blue eggs! I would love to hear more about your chickens and the set-up you have for them, as I am planning on getting some once I get a little breather financially. I didn't know you could overwinter pepper plants! Your garden sure does well considering you do it when you can!

Also, I'm so tired of other gardeners telling folks to leave the roots in the ground...I pull mine also. When I saw you dig those root balls out of the soil I was amazed because how can any roots grow with those in the way? Whatever works for them but for me, imma take the whole thing out.

That particular spider was an orb weaver and those are the ones that you want to have around, they don't care at all about humans, only how many pests they can eat in a day. They might look a little scary but they're the good ones.

This is the first video I've watched from your channel but I definitely subbed! I stumbled upon your video by searching for advice for starting a garden. I just bought my first home and I'm super excited to start a garden this upcoming Spring. I love your energy! You're so honest & down to Earth. I can tell that you have such a sweet & beautiful soul. Like you, I work a lot so I was kinda concerned about the time that I would have to invest into gardening but I'm not gonna let that stop me from providing healthy foods and medicines for my family. I know that it will help out financially but also be beneficial health wise for us. Plus, if I get a huge harvest, as I know that some crops will grow like crazy, I really wanna donate some to our local shelters. I also want to get some hens for the eggs, as I'm trying to cut out eating meat again. It’s the spider for me. I will want to garden but terrified of spiders, frogs and snakes.

I’m the same way with the cantaloupes. Marigolds smell like piss. I thought about leaving some cantaloupe but I just said what the heck’s pull them 😂

My mom use to pull the seeds of the marigold and sit them in the window to dry and use them next year. Chickens love marigold too. Love your channel.
