This was actually a real thing. Not something added cause the devs were bored. American Indians would force trees to grow in these weird shapes by blocking their paths while they were still saplings. And then would use the unique trees as Trail markers and identifiers. Think of them as prehistoric street signs! Actually really cool that Rockstar decided to include this.

I was going to say that. At Silver Dollar City you can see some of those trees, and that's where I learned that from. Also specifically they pointed them towards water, so that they could find their way back to the water.

@@ChrispySauce I didn't know that part! But makes sense when you're traversing the wilderness you'd need water to survive.

It was likely man made (as in they forced it to grow in that way) and may have been used as a trail marker. Very cool to find in the wild these days!

I watched a video indians use to lay things over smaller trees to point out where to get water or other supplies it's kinda cool and trees would end up growing like these trees

In gameplay terms, the series of bent trees point toward the blocked entrance of a mine, the one whose mineral acid run-off has poisoned the water around the area. The mine can't be entered from there, however, and there's nothing to do or collect at the spot. The whole thing is almost certainly the remainder of cut content from the game. There's a lot of that in RDR2.

Called a market tree, they’re all over where I live (south central US) they were pulled in a direction as they grew as a sort of early maps.
