It’s crazy how now after watching these videos I know exactly what you’re talking about but before I had no idea what any of it meant hahaha just left from airman’s week about 45 minutes ago and got our phones. Also the flight cycle after ours is the last time airman’s week will be a separate week. It is now being integrated into BMT through the 8.5 weeks.

Great video as always. Can you give tips or advice on picking your job in the Airforce and your thoughts on going open general and how it impacts your duration in the DEP program.

Thank you 🙏 I can recommend you think of things you would want more experience with OR things that are equivalent in the civilian world. The ultimate reward from the military is the experience and knowledge you will get from any particular career field. I would try and match one up with your interest or at least something that in the civilian world would otherwise be hard to get into, but with military experience/background would give you a leg up in. This is an understanding of my own, not THE answer, let me explain. When you go "open general" you are, more or less, telling the Air Force, "hey, I will take ANY job that I qualify for within the 'general' category." So, the first one that is open and meets your qualifications you will satisfy. Also, I don't know if this is still true, but those who picked "open" general, mechanical, etc. won't know their job until 6th week. Let me know if this helped! Take Care.

David Capperino thank you. You explained it better than my recruiter did. I'm thinking of going open general (I got a 92 on my ASVAB by the way; don't know what it scored out of but I think I did well) because there aren't many medical jobs offered and Im really not interested in doing anything mechanical or electrical ( just not my area of interest or expertise) and I just hope that you at least get to pick 10 or so jobs from the open general options and the Airforce matches you with the one on your list and what they need you for as oposed to them picking one for you without your intake.

First off, that is fricken awesome! Getting a 92, I'm pretty sure it is out of 99. You qualify for most jobs, except for like maybe 3, in the Air Force. IF there is a job in medical that you want, put that down and wait for it to open. You don't HAVE to take a job just because your recruiter says that medical isn't open. You may wait some time before something like medical opens up, but it is NOT impossible to get something in medical. Let me know if this helps or you have any other questions.

More or less, you're basically telling the Air Force, Hey pick my career with my qualifications in "this" field.

Our MTI's would chuck the mail across the day room and have us go through it but then again it was 03.

Yes you do! Or at least I did 8 years ago. You have to withdraw it or use it all because I assume you won’t be able to use it again. They don’t have that everywhere that’s a BMT specific thing.

Hahah wowww my boyfriend went to BMT in February of 2018 (but he went to the army) and he wrote me telling they were throwing everyone’s letters and making them do push-ups for them

@@baileykeiper9795 yes there is certain mail days in the week and they give them the mail they just will have a hard time responding cause of being busy and not having a lot of free time

My boyfriend sent me his address but I found out it was wrong and I already sent him letters do you think he will still get them anyway?

Yes he should, they will notice there’s a mistake and find him on a roster somewhere and then when he writes back hopefully they notify him that you had the wrong address so that he can write the correct one in a letter to you. Hope this helped!

David Capperino only two Air Force bases I can think of in the panhandle are Tyndall and Eglin, I live in Panama City. About 10 minutes from Tyndall. Been looking into joining. Girlfriend’s parents retired here. Both served 25 yrs. each in Air Force so I’m around Tyndall all the time.
