    Thank you for all the wonderful puppy training videos!!! We pick up Lou our 8weeks old Great Pyrenees pup on Saturday April 9th! We have to travel 2 hours to get him from our cousin’s farm. We current live on the 3rd floor of an apartment and have a very narrow balcony. I’m hoping to get some fresh grass pee trays that you recommended but our outside grass areas are frequent by dogs, cats, and ever type of wild animal you can think of… well the basic ones like raccoons, possums, deer, rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks! There is no safe place!!! What do you suggest for potty training??????? Also, you mentioned taking him on car rides and drive thrus but shouldn’t he always ride in his crate???? How often should these trip be? Daily, 2x day, once a week?? We want to make sure our soon to be enormous pup is well socialize!! Thank you! We look forward to the workshop tomorrow at 7pm!

    I'm a breeder and my Vet requires first shot at 5-6 weeks, second set at 8-9 weeks. I take my PupPups for BOTH the first AND second set of shots, then wait a minimum of 24 hours before releaaing them to their new owners. I also let them out to socialize with my other VACCINATED dogs (all my dogs are fully vaccinated and wormed regularly and kept in daily cleaned environments) a couple days after their first set of vaccines, but only for about half an hour a day so they can learn the social aspect of having other dogs around. I'm with them the whole time, as is their Mama. It has worked extremely well for my PupPups (8 litters in 6 years out of 4 females). I have nothing but positive feedback about how well socialized my PupPups are, and have had several repeat customer. My PupPups are my BABIES, and I treat them accordingly!! 💕

If you do have other dogs just make sure you've "cleaned up" well so they don't eat any other dog's poop..cuz they WILL! They're puppies, they're like human babies n put ANYTHING they find into their mouths lol. We are expecting a puppy later this year, and we would be interested to hear your thoughts. We live in NYC in a busy part of downtown. I'm sort of worried about going outside our apartment for potty breaks, because lots of dogs still walk and pee on the sidewalks. Should we just avoid and use the fresh patch inside until they get the 2nd or 3rd round of vaccinations? Also trying to get them used to the sounds, maybe it would be beneficial to bring them in a travel carrier and they bring them to the park bench to sit for abit to absorb the sounds and smells while safe inside the carrier? I think we will definitely do the puppy socialization classes once a week though.

    Hi, amazing video! I learned a lot of useful stuff. Can you please answer my doubt regarding my puppy's behavior? I have a 50-day-old male Shih Tzu puppy. He doesn't like drinking water and only eats soaked kibbles. Is that okay for his age? He avoids drinking water even if I add a little amount to his bowl along with soaked kibbles. I think this behavior might have come from his negative experience with bathing. I bathed him without knowing that we should wait at least two full months before bathing them. What can you suggest regarding this?

  • @HowToTrainADreamDog

    @HowToTrainADreamDog

    11 күн бұрын

    Please discuss this with your vet. You can also experiment with different bowls and try things like ice cubes to see if that works better. It seems unlikely to be related to bathing, as those are two separate activities in a dog's mind.

    You can find a spot that is not used much by other dogs. Puppies can still touch the ground before vaccinations are complete. You just need to make sure they aren't interacting with unvaccinated dogs or eating feces of unvaccinated dogs. Outings are also very very short for young puppies, and you start by watching from the car or far away from anyone or anything.

    Hi Michelle, my dog just recovered from canine distemper and need to wait for another month to get the 2nd vaccine, and by that time she will be 5 month old. I have been bringing her out on a dog troller to see the vet when she is around 3 month and seems she is friendly to ppl and other dogs. But during this month time, I just keep her staying at home as she just took 1 vaccine...Actually I am extremely worry about the situation of delaying the socialization exercise, however she just took 1 vaccine... What should I really do now, is it really ok to bring her out for a walk? Thanks!

    We don't recommend strollers or slings for exposure training. The most important part of exposing your puppy to the world is to make sure it's a positive experience for him. When you restrict his movements or can't see him in the stroller, you aren't able to notice subtle cues in body language that indicate stress or discomfort. I have a question - we have been doing very short walks (literally half a block from our house and back, no further, on the sidewalk) with our pup who is 11 weeks. We are not letting him interact with any other people or dogs during these times. However I am still paranoid that this is maybe too risky for him? He is actually taking to the leash really well, and is learning to stay attentive to us so I feel like the training aspect is super valuable but I do worry still.

    We like that you're not interacting with others and we like that you're going only a short distance from home. If he seems to be enjoying it and is not resisting or seems stressed, it's fine! For his safety, try to make sure he does not eat or lick anything on the ground. Take high value treats with you to redirect him if he does!

    Great information! We live next to a green space. occasionally we have seen skunks, raccoons and foxes in the lower end of our yard, although never near the house. Near the house we have bird feeders which attract a lot of squirrels. Should we be worried about squirrels carrying disease that our unvaccinated pup could get? I have heard of new puppy owners spraying the edge of their property (the cement curb) with a dilute bleach solution to kill bacteria before their pup comes home. Would you recomment this practice?

  • @bryonycossinswhite4904

    Absolutely not. Bleach is a highly dangerous toxic solution that is hazardous to your dog and the ecosystem. Build a healthy immune system by feeding your puppy a proper diet, such as raw and adding probiotics to the diet. 80% of the immune system is built in the gut so feed them right and avoid obvious potential risks such as stray dogs before they are fully vaxxed

  • @HowToTrainADreamDog

    Unvaccinated dogs are the biggest concern, so stray dogs are more of an issue than other pets. But you can use a grassy patch on your balcony or near your front door, and/or you can find a potty spot that is away from where most of the dogs do their business. There are lots of ways to help your dog get used to the outside world during this critical window, so be sure you're doing positive exposure training too!

    It's good if you can socialize a puppy when she is young but even if she's past 16 weeks she can still learn new things and have a positive association with them. Follow the tips in this video and hold positive training sessions with her, exposing her to new things. You might wait to start with outside exposure sessions until you notice she's settled in to your home. When she appears ready you can start with household items like brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, blenders and more. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z56st7eyqbvdiqQ.htmlsi=uAIflTZn5XgjGIza

That also gives your new puppy a chance to settle in before meeting a new friend. Please check out this video about safe and healthy playdates, and share it with your granddaughter too. With the right structure and supervision you can help these dogs be lifelong friends! kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2eZt7iHdcjJopc.html

    We don't recommend the beach until all vaccinations are complete.

    Here in the Philippines, Parvo and distemper is not yet controlled. We make sure that our pups is fully vaccinated/ immune to these diseases before taking them outside It's better safe than sorry.

    We recommend saving the neighborhood walks for a time when your pup has established the foundation leash skills. We cover these in Module 1 of our online course, 30 Days to Puppy Perfection: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/

    My Jack is just about 10 months old Cavalier, I got him at 3 months old, he grew up on a horse farm and they had harlies so he came to me used to a lot of loud noises and big machinery. The early trips to homedepot and lowes were fun places to take him for a stroll in the cart. I got him sniffing my bicycle till he ignored it...then he got put in the doggie basket and he laid down and ends up he loves going for bike rides with me. We go almost every day now that the weather is warming up. Now it's a recumbent trike and I can't tell you how many times we would come back from a ride and i will park the trike in my back yard to let him out... he will take a nap in my driver seat.

    If it is under 40 degrees Fahrenheit, try to limit outside activities to 20 minutes or less each time. You may choose to get a dog vest for situations like this but it will require a desensitization process long before you expect your puppy to wear it.

    How many shots does a puppy have to get to be in public

  • @HowToTrainADreamDog

    @HowToTrainADreamDog

    It really depends on what you'll be doing with your dog. Public parks and markets should not be done until your dog has received all the shots. Other exposure training can take place in a safe way before all shots are complete.

    My Boston Terrier should have died after her Bordetella vaccine. 100% pneumonia in both lungs. Diagnosed autistic. My two rescues were small pups during the pandemic closure. It’s so rough. They weren’t socialized, were separated from their litter at 3 1/2 weeks.
