This is a lesson I recently learned. I have acquaintances who are white passing and trying to make progressive political strides in the USA. They were very triggered when I told them that this whole “red and blue” thing are two sides of the same coin, and attempted to undermine my point by saying I was reading misinforming “memes” online. Ma’am…I came to that conclusion in a textbook 15 years ago. And I told them as an African Diasporian and Indigenous American person, the genocide never ended for my bloodline. You work on your own generational trauma and I’ll work on mine. Life is too short to stay where I’m not wanted. I’m fulfilling my childhood dreams of getting out of this psychological war zone and living a life of peace, love, comfort, joy, hope, and honesty ❤

I do NOT tell people what I’m spending, earning, sacrificing- Nada. I’m a boomer: young sisters stop oversharing, seeking external validation. Trust, we fought that battle for you and won. Keep it moving. I can tell you’re upset Comrade Sister Nomad ( we from the Fulani women!) but you don’t sound harsh to me. So. Carry on . Jump at the sun. I don’t do anything when people feel uncomfortable. Not even an eye roll. Give them my back. Now that’s harsh - possibly. 😉 INTJ: if you know human psychology, you already know.

I’ve been making folks uncomfortable for at least 30 years! It’s ok if you discuss your aspirations, and struggle in the pursuit. But, if you doing your thing, succeeding on your own, without a man, and without the responsibility of children, you make women examine their own lives. They often feel that you are criticizing them, and feel the pangs of regret. That’s just mirror they’re holding up on their own. They shouldn’t have regrets, but to make new plans. Take small steps to make themselves a priority, and not just their underaged children.

As a free, single, and childless black woman, I have experienced a lot of resentment from other African American women, including relatives, who have bought into the archetype of the long-suffering sister who carries a physical and psychological load that's heavier than a bale of cotton. They applaud each other for carrying on under these crushing, thankless and unfulfilling burdens, and condemn those of us who have charted our own courses towards liberation of the self. Stephanie, please keep on doing what you're doing. You are inspiring so many of your sisters by shining a light onto the wonderful places of the world and showing us how and where we might fit in. Love your message and purpose in life. I too boycott winter by spending 2 months in Jamaica. I get different responses when I tell this to others, but my most recent comment was "weren't you a school teacher?" as though a teacher should not have that kind of money. I just laugh and get on the plane every year. I'll be joining your patreon when I return from vacation. Keep it up! You are empowering us.

Stephanie, We are conditioned to accept the bare minimum, and this needs to be unlearned. You’ve evolved to the place of “I deserve better”, and the people giving you grief aren’t there yet. They also don’t believe that for themselves. 🥺 It took me years to believe that for me, and I hope a LOT more black women get to this place eventually. I watch all your videos, often times more than once. Your way of being inspires and motivates me. ❤️

People believe that if all of the conditions aren’t met for others to be happy then there’s no reason for them to be happy. People would always ask me why I’m so happy and I would tell them, “no reason.” Lots of people only believe you should be happy if you have great news to share or have come upon great fortune. When I was growing up I was such a happy child and kids would tease me for my weight because they think I shouldn’t be a happy person because of it. But going back to what I was saying, just like how you said you had to stay at a place with no running toilet some people would think that you’re not living right because all the conditions haven’t been met. If you live a life of luxury then they expect you to get the best beach house with everything included, spend as much money as you want with reckless abandon, and to be catered to hand and foot. If only people didn’t realize that the could live a wonderful and stress free life if they didn’t live for the next shiny object or fantastic material experience.

Thank you for telling us about Paula Sutton! I’d not heard of her, as she was apparently quite the sensation during the lockdowns. I missed my “Great Relaxation” during 2020 because I was working a full time job on top of caring for a very sick spouse. I’m trying to make up for it now, and will be “applying pressure” and pushing back against the expectation that I will continue to carry extra burdens at work and in life. At 52 with no children, and a disabled spouse who is being cared for by professionals because I just could not do it all alone anymore, it’s my turn to have a life.

I pondered the question and said myself because I knew that if I could not take care of myself, that I would not be able to take care of my mother or anyone else. Thank God the professor didn't leave the room because of the horrible looks I got in the disagreements. All disagreed except for the professor. The professor went on to explain my logic behind the answer that I had given. Our people really need to learn to think outside of the box....

So many guys hit me with the your to educated, you travel too much, you should be focusing on finding a man rather than working and kicking your feet up. I don't have a problem dating someone who makes less than me but I do have a problem with guys who think I should lower myself to stroke their ego. Quit my job, stop traveling just to be with someone who can barely take care of themselves. I have no interest in struggling.

So, SO tired of being workhorses! 👏🏾 After these past few years, all I want to do is have some rest and joy! I finally started pushing back when people tried to force their scarcity mindsets on me, even when I knew they had the best intentions. I make good money and I’m going to enjoy it. No, I’m not selling my house and downsizing. No, I’m not going on vacation and staying in the cheapest room and sharing it to save money. Yes, I’m sending my dog to day care. Yes, I’m getting my massages and any other self-care services I feel I need. Here’s to 2022 and beyond being about us and our best lives!

Like so many other women in the comments, I, too, needed this video. I am a bit torn because I report to a Black woman that, to put it nicely, is quite challenging to work with (i.e., professional etiquette and work quality). Over the past 5 years, I have worked extremely hard to enhance my skillset, lead and assist with new projects, and remain a consummate professional/team player. December 2021 marked my 5th year with the agency and an awakening that it is no longer my role, nor was it ever, worth my time to model appropriate professional behavior or spend countless hours stressing about other's perception of the extent to which I was a team player. I have quietly and comfortably settled into a new role of doing less, speaking less, and stressing less. Stephanie, thank you for reminding Black women that although we are consistently undervalued and underappreciated, often by those that look like us, there are other options for a healthy, happy, and purposeful life. I appreciate your presence on KZread and this pep talk - "apply pressure".

I prefer to not work under a BW or BM. They will micromanage your work and single you out. Its not worth it for me. No thank you.

You go girl🤗 I'm from Jamaica 🇯🇲 and we have a words here for the negativity your getting, we call it " bad mind" that's when people don't want to see you prosper and are just plain jealous. I'm telling you those slave master did a number on some of our heads. They taught us not to like each other, not to celebrate our successes collectively. But you do your thing, you inspire me daily. Enjoy, enjoy every minute above ground. Love you girl for showing us another way.🥰

Yeeeeeeeeeees! The title... The content. All of this!!! Thank you so much for talking about this. (Also, in my video about wanting an easier life, I got some upset folks commenting and criticizing. Those comments IMMEDIATELY got deleted. I don't have the energy. Usually I try to reason with folks... But some folks don't want to be reasonable. They are literally like "how dare you?!" Determining how to manage energy is new to me, but you are GOALS. Lol. 💛💛💛)
