It was really a dumb way to confront them. It was a waste of ammunition. As any hunter can tell you, most animals know you're there before they see you. A better tactic would have been to use long-range rifles picking a few off at a time, follow them, and pick off more when they settle.

I never really understood this saying. Humans are part of nature, we aren't aliens. Everything is nature. There is no "not messing with it". I can appreciate it trying to say "don't tempt things far more powerful than yourself" but that goes for everything. Whether it's a giant salt water crocodile or heavy machinery. So saying "don't mess with mother nature" doesn't really mean anything lol. It just boils down to "don't be stupid".

In the beginning of the Wizard of Oz, there's a brief panic when Dorothy falls into the pigsty. When I first saw the scene as a child, I thought the reason was that she was likely to be trampled. The story of Winnie the Poo is similar. A Canadian soldier going to fight in World War I bought a bear cub in Winnepeg, Manitoba, and went to Europe in 1915. She didn't go to France but was put in the London Zoo where she was visited by A.A. Milne, and his son, Christopher Robin, and became the inspiration for the litary character Winnie the Poo.

"What I remember about the rise of the Great Emu Empire is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Emu Wars, the Emu Legion was discreetly transferred back to Sydney. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Sydney, not when the order came down, and not when we marched into the Opera House. Not a word."
